Hey Jessica, I purchased a blue oyster kit from Grow Mushrooms Canada and had a great experience! It was really nice seeing this video pop up in my feed! The kit worked just as the instruction indicated, and within about 2 weeks we had a nice flourish of blue oyster mushrooms! Awesome to see these types of initiatives in Canada! All the best Jessica and Jeti!

Hi Kaelan. We are so happy to hear you had good success with our blue oyster mushroom kit. They are a very cold hardy species, and i have some growing on my porch outside in the 7C rainy Vancouver Island winter :)

I am coming in late, but was just wondering if watering mushroom kits outdoors with city water that has been chlorinated would kill the spores? I was going to start with planting wine caps around some of our trees in an urban setting. Thank you! Great video. Very inspiring.

Okay Red Alder! Grouse love Alder berries. Oak, Birch, Maple. Mainly Hardwoods, but doesnt hurt to try something new.

I think all gardeners should be growing Wine Cap Mushrooms in shady corners of their gardeners. I did lasagna layers of cardboard, straw and wood chips and had great success. If planted in early spring, they generally fruit in autumn in Ontario and twice a year (spring and fall) every year after that as long as you keep adding wood chips and straw to feed the mycelium. I even had success with leaf mulch.
I always get my grow kits from Grow Mushrooms Canada (excellent products and service).
    Thanks for the video.

Hi Ray. We are happy to hear of your experience and success in growing Wine Caps. It's great to know they overwinter well for you. What part of Ontario?

@@GrowMushroomsCanada I am an hour north of Toronto. Your products are amazing. Last year I planted the spawn in the middle of summer (not ideal) and I got some fruiting in the fall. Thanks😊.

Hi Jessica I love these videos with the Herbal Jedi! You have inspired me to try to grow mushrooms myself. I’d love to buy from you but I’m in Alaska so I had to buy it from someone else. I’d love to try putting the used substrate in between logs as you’ve shown in this video. Do I need to put wax around the open cut edge of the log as you did with the plugs? Also, if I try this method, I’m concerned about the long winter of freezing temperatures. Are you able to successfully leave your logs all winter?

Hi. If you do a log stack with mushroom spawn crumbled between, it's not necessary to wax the open surface of the top log piece. If dry you may want to take steps to keep the spawn layer from drying, such as wrapping the gaps with saran wrap or cardboard, for a couple of months while they get established. Mycelium overwinters in logs in Canada in very cold temperatures, so I would anticipate you would have no trouble in Alaska also.

Just recieved some kits. Would fir logs from the interior work ok? I have lots of fir logs available.

@@Hopperman99 I would suggest trying Hericium abietes on a fir log (bear's head). It's like a lion's mane and can grow on conifers. Most our edible species grow on hardwoods.
