A song that is somewhat forgotten when people talk Metallica. They talk Sandman, Master of Puppets, Horsemen, One, etc. But when you listen to Nothing Else Matters, you are reminded to the power it has. Elton John said it best, it is one of the best songs ever written. It has everything.

The story behind the song is the starting of the song where there are open string (E-G-B-e pattern), James Hetfield wrote that while he was talking to his then girlfriend on the phone, he was just randomly strumming. It started from there and he composed the entire song, showed it to Lars, Lars liked it and rest is history. And yeah, James Hetfield played the solo, it's so beautiful, work of a master!!!! After all these years, I am still in love with this song. First guitar solo I learned, because of James!!!!

Ok, first I gotta say I loved watching your reaction to this song/video. I think you really appreciate Metallica. Keep rockin. Wear that Metallica shirt with pride! Now, something you might not know about Metallica, specifically James and Kirk. They mainly play ESP (Japanese company) guitars. In fact they endorse them and you can buy their signature series of guitars (for A LOT of money!!). But originally they played Gibson (American company) guitars. Gibson wanted them to endorse their products, but ESP offered to let James and Kirk design anything they want and ESP would make it. It paid off for James, during a concert in 1992, James was standing in the wrong spot when a stage port went off. 3200 degrees of liquid magnesium ignited right under James Hetfield. His ESP guitar (similar to the white one he does the solo with in this video) saved his life. He was burned on his hand and face but the guitar took the main blast. It was utterly destroyed immediately but James survived. ESP guitars became legendary, almost having a mythical and magical status today. The ESP name carries a lot of weight in the guitar world.

James Hetfield acturaly wrote it for himself NOT for Metallica but the other guys heard it and loved it. i remember James was nervous as it was a very personal song for him not meant to be on a Metallica album: Why did James Hetfield wrote Nothing Else Matters?
“Nothing Else Matters” is a ballad about being honest with your feelings and expressing them. In a 2012 interview with The Village Voice, Hetfield spoke about the intention of the track, its meanings and how it came to be: “It was a song for myself in my room on tour when I was bumming out about being away from home.

The people who don't listen to hard rock / metal never get to understand the emotional roller-coaster that a song such as this can take you on. The sign of a great song is the emotion that it evokes in every individual in their our personal way.

I argee with some comments, that your reaction is so pure, like a child's lught or happy. I saw some videos of reactions, but your reaction is most onest, live and pure. I want to see your reaction more. But you should make a reaction on, for example (Bryan Adams:"Please forgive me" and "Everythinf I do". The Shakespears syster: Stay. Meat Loaf: I'll do anything for love. AC\DC: Highway to hell (Live with Bryan Jhonson). Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind. Limp Bizkit- Behind blue eyes. Tina Turner-The best. Enya - Only Time. Celine Dion- My heart will go on. Bon Jovi - It's my life and ect. I can give you more songs to make your reactions))
    P.S. Sorry for my English.

*Miss Cute* *SUBSCRIBED* ! your gorgeous *AND* you reacted to Metallica, so I'm all in.! K.... keeping it simple, when I was a touring musician back in the day, there was a BRIEF description of this genre called "Speed Metal" ! Just giving you some backstory here. You could probably attribute the band *Motorhead* as the founding fathers {Lemmy} but there were others. Then it was called "Thrash Metal" and so on. James lived in Downey, CA which was 2 cities over from me in Southern Cali. EVERYONE knew they were special, whatever genre you called it. Like Zeppelin or Nirvana, you just KNEW they were on another level when you first heard them. ALWAYS loved this song..! I don't bother with suggestions anymore as I'm sure your sitting on a few hundred already but I *WILL* suggest for your off screen time to look into a documentary about "The Rainbow Room" !!!!! It was the musicians hangout on Sunset that everyone went too for various reasons at various times. Lemmy figures prominently in it. Lastly, James and Lars had many influences but Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Motorhead/Lemmy and Zeppelin were omnipresent in their development.! Rock on.! *David* .....

If you are starting to get into Metallica, you need to watch "Wherever I May Roam", from the Black album. It is a wonderful song. I would also recommend "Fuel" as another Metallica classic.

This song written by James, Kirk and Lars is simply written about their fans which for them Nothing Else Matters, and all guitars was done by Hetfield in the recording studio which is one of few, (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth is another he didn’t record
