Good review. Based on your review and others I bought one of these. I got the off white dial version. Really beautiful watch. If I really need a good stop watch I will use one of my Casio digitals. However I do think the chrono on this Timex adds some beauty and interest to the watch while still being pretty easy to read. I think mine is easier to read than your blue one. Also I have lots of things I time that are less than 30 min. Ramen noodles, French press coffee, steak searing on grill, cookies, steeping tea, etc. And having only 30 min in the sub dial spreads out the markers making it easier to read how many minutes exactly. If the same sub dial were 60 minutes it would all be crammed together and not as easy to read exact minute.
Inexpensive watches absolutely have their place. One of my most accurate watches is a Seiko 5 I regulated with a toothpick. It's gained 5 seconds in the last 3 weeks which is nuts.
So that chrono hand wobble is actually something that Timex claims is a “feature”. It’s designed to cut back on recoil of the hand and that allows the hand to line up with the markers and indexes more accurately.
The Mk1 chronograph TW2R68700 looks military with a canvas strap. It has the same movement. It’s very legible with the only text being a small “Timex.” It has a Perspex crystal -nicely domed - (but only 50m wr.) The hands have chemical lume plus the Indigo feature.
Nick i made a mistake. I got into watches and knives. Good news is that my delica, seiko 5 and timex weekender are good enough for my edc tasks. I might upgrade for jewelry but I'm in no hurry.
i feel you i have actually spent a lot of money on watches and now i dont really buy knives anymore i use all money that normally go to knives now for watches. i hope nick doesn't get any more hobbies because my wallet wont like that :P
Hello, I have the same expedition scout chronograph that I purchased on eBay from the USA 2 years ago. The second counting hand of the chronograph doesn’t reset properly in night mode. It get stuck randomly at reset. The hand doesn’t go back to zero. It stops before randomly. Is it normal? Best regards
I've always thought they looked nice, I might get one. I like using inexpensive analog chronographs for the gym, mostly Seikos. Analog is faster/easier when timing 1-2 minute rest times between sets. With a digital watch or smart phone, I'd have to go through 2-3 steps to get to stop watch or timer mode, which sucks when you have to do it frequently. I do have one Timex in my collection, an Easy Reader; I wear it a lot, it's just so freaking legible and the Indglo is so convenient. Inexpensive and unpretentious, it's great for rough work and bad neighborhoods.
Not only that the look ok too i like them too i really wouldnt like some of these bigger expencive peices. Let alone machanical now that's just out dated i have a few and to be honest im back on quartz i just prefer them i play with high power hf transmitters all day and after magnatizing a watch a few times just pointless not to mention in accurate compaired to a decent quartz
I use a socket that matches the size of the crystal as a template and cut out cheap cell phone (non glass) screen protectors. I then put this on a mineral crystal to help protect it. I’m weird.
Carl Stanland Oooo! Next time you do that, please make a vid of it and post the link here! (I tried it once and had 2d-3d issues, which I couldn't overcome.)
My main draw to this watch is the 100m over 50 water resistance. I can live with or without the chronograph and all that applies...just give me the H2O proof and the night light and I’m good at this price....the rest is just back ground noise, thanks for another awesome review.
I just ordered one with the green face. I’m a nursing student and some of our clinical instructors are real sticklers about watches. You are required to have an analog watch with a second hand for taking vitals. Some of my instructors let us get away with smart watches but others are strict about it. Anyway I love analog watches and this gave me a good excuse to get one, so I ordered two lol! One of these and a regular non chrono scout. Not sure if I’ll find the chronograph useful or not I just like the look. The date is a nice feature I’ll use though
Ouch. The noise might kill it for me. Just to weigh in - I'm actually specifically looking for a 30 minute chronograph because I'm timing stuff at work and the 60 minute ones i have just aren't that legible. Especially in a dim room.
Nice review. I just picked up their Allied LT Chronograph 42mm Fabric Strap Watch. It's very similar to the one you reviewed, but they have addressed some of the flaws you spoke on. Caught it on sale for 58.99 compared to the $109 listing (at least on their website). Still no lume, but I can live with it.
Like the tv announcer saying "But wait, there"s more!", the value in this watch is the low, low price. As in the Casio Duro or the Invicta Sub homage, the owner has so little invested that life events that kill a watch are not a huge tragedy. The chrono is good enough for many kitchen timing chores. Makes a fine gift for someone that needs watch sickness infection.
A great review of a fantastic watch, given the fantastic price point. However, I don't think there's very much to complain/worry about regarding the price, functionality and quality etc. For example, Seiko make watches that retail for many hundreds of $ and they don't align correctly either! The dial is fairly clear and I find my 'pilot' version perfectly legible in daylight and the Indiglo feature is good in sub optimal situations. Also the 'hour/time zone change' feature is something you don't get on movements that cost x10 that the Timex does, what's not to like? The BIG + is that if it dies for any reason other than for a battery replacement you can buy another one! Bottom line, it's a 'tool chronograph' watch that you don't have to worry about and a nice alternative to a Casio etc?
Great looking watch! I like the simple military look. I also like the hour hand hack. Timex quality isn't what they built the brand on. One of mine is resting at the bottom of the Green River in Southeastern Utah and might still work. No doubt their extensive lineup has a watch at a price for everyone's desire.
I've had one of these for about a year and a half--- the Todd Snyder version IIRC which had a chintzy genuine leather NATO which I've replaced with an aftermarket NATO . I've been pleased, it was a gift, but I think the price was about $55. Worthy at that price point. It and my then other two Timex's would stop running, I believe this was if I didn't set them down on their back when not being worn. Pulling out the crown and pushing it back in restarted them.-- I did not know about the independent hour hand (never thought to try at this price point) Thanks!. --- For others- if chrono second hand is off- pull out crown and use the upper chrono pusher to advance the second hand to the correct position. Thanks Nick
Which is better value for the price, This expedition or the weekender Chrono? I prefer the brushed finish of the expedition but I don't want to pay double the price if it's not necessary
I love my 'Expedition's"!,,,,,i have owned one since they first came out,. I still have my Mint condition "Slide-Rule" Expedition!,,,,Which makes me Ask why, They stopped making the "Slide-Rule"?,,,,It was the costliest 'Expedition',,,,,but worth Every cent IMHO!,. I'm a Chronograph Fan,,,,and have been all my life,,,ever since my Old Man gave me his DOXA Chrono from the '50s!, when I finished Jump-School & got my Wing's,,,,Now that's a watch that only sees the Light of Day,,,,,,,on Very Special occasion's!, but when I'm out in the Bush on Exercise,,,,,It's the Timex Chrono Epedition that's on my Wrist,,,,,I just bought the 'Expedition' "Fly-Back", as an Early Christmas gift to myself!,,,,,after all!, "It Takes A Licking!, and Keeps On Ticking"!!!!
I've only seen watches with lume last about 10 minutes at the most before it needs recharcharging. Can you recommend the one you know that lasts all night?
As said, Seiko, Orient kill it, Citizen is pretty good. This all assumes your eyes are night adjusted (aka sleeping). Even the best lume is going to seem like it's gone in 20 minutes if you're still used to light, but night adjusted, the good stuff (Seiko/Orient or bgw9) is visible all night.
Nice quartz watch. Really took advantage of having motor driven movement with those cool chronograph features. Here’s a knife suggestion: LionSteel Daghetta LionSteel just won best manufacturing at blade show. Also the daghetta has their patented TOL locking system which would be cool to see. I heard it was a difficult knife to disassemble too so you could think of it like kind of a challenge. Anyway, I don’t have one or I’d send you it but if you come across one it would be an interesting couple videos for sure.
I kicked the watch habit nearly 20 years back. Still have a big box full. Sadly, I believe my ex threw out my vintage 1973 Heuer Autavia Chronograph as she didn't believe it was real. Or something like that. _Shovel + 3 bags of lime + quiet wooded area. Some assembly required._
I currently wear one of the $40 Expeditions, and this seems like way more than $20 worth of Improvement. I would like it a lot better if it wasn't a chronograph, and if they offer it as such I will probably be picking one up.
Not sure if Timex changed something with this watch. I just bought it and I cannot hear it at all unless I out my ear to it. Even my SARB033 is louder.
The other 47$ expedition Chrono solves most of these problems with things like skeletonised hands. But I am still a bit pissed they aren't doing a multihour Chrono.
This review is great...AND it's hilarious. Or I'm tired & be slap-happy. But it sounds like Frank Rizzo is reviewing a watch he digs, and I say that with total sincerity 😄
Hi Nick, love your channel. I have another variant of this watch, and the hands have the chemical lumen you are looking for :D Just thought I would let you know! Strange they would not use it on all of their models of the scout chrono... maybe my watch is a more expensive version or something. It was a gift from a friend :D Keep being awesome!!
My Tissot PRC-100 chronograph have 10th of a second also, Or is my PRC-100 quarts? I'm getting confused here. I see now your refering to mechanical watches, I'm WRONG! Please forgive me. It's quarts for sure I see now, I'm just thinking and not enjoying good answers from my brain. Hahaha. Nice video 100%! Thanks Nick!

This is a great five-star watch for quality and value. They fixed it! U can't hear this watch! But you still didn't even give them credit for it. I think the review should have been much more positive. A real leather strap with fine accent stitching, a solid metal 100M waterproof case, for this price; a true bargain. You were very hard on Timex especially for this price point. I think the watch is a $200 value in truth.
I need to replace the battery in this watch but there's a latch that i can't remove. Do you know how do it. I looked all over the web for a tutorial with no luck
warning be advised fellow TH-camrs … Timex says genuine leather on the watch strap it's is positive is you could get is a flat out lie… The veneer on the outside may be leather 1/1000 of an inch thick the inside is probably paper. Is it just me or the worst thing about that watch is a second hand which is still (used only for stopwatch)! Why wouldn’t a chronograph use the sub-dials only? Leave the second hand for seconds....it pisses me off (I have a similar one from Timex) that any time I check the time, my second hand is at 12 and does not move...
Most chronos work that way. I prefer it. IMO it would be best if they color coordinated the Chrono hands, so big second, minute, .20 second hand all red for example, rest white, but that's not up to me.
Are you sure this is expedition scout? As i know it should be 42mm dial and darker brass bezzel. Or this is smaller version with different code type? Let me know bcoz I will decide to buy this.
So my wife got me this for early Father's Day, and I caught her Frenching the damn thing! Like what the heck? She said she wanted to see if it could take a licking and keep on ticking. Oh' Buhaha!
Good review. Based on your review and others I bought one of these. I got the off white dial version. Really beautiful watch. If I really need a good stop watch I will use one of my Casio digitals. I'm into watches knifes guns and now I just started pens like montblanc and stuff lol bad for the savings
Same but i don't have the money for the knife after buying a seiko and timex chronograph

How do you activate the light?
Victorinox maverick and inox please! I would love to hear your opinion on them!
I actually like the "BLLLRLRLR, BLLRLRLRL" of the chrono hands.
The indiglo and loud ticking make this piece a poor choice for all the high speed, low drag operating mall ninjas. Nice review Mr. Nick.

@@clange50 I now only go with digital or analog digital combo. Casio has the nicest ones for my wrist size and wallet size. Lol
@@nitsan I LOVE casio. Tough solar, atomic, G-shocks, Edifice, Lineage, hell, ae1200s are awesome.
I wear one basically 24/7 and don't even hear it unless I literally press it up against my ear

Absolutely.

I can't hear anything on my Timex expedition Chrono, even jammed against my ear. And I'm not deaf, I can hear my Bulova accutron just fine.
The Seiko 7T92 quartz chrono has a 12hr timer and comes in many different variations, so you will find one that can suit you.

They do. Does nobody remember the Timex tagline? Timex - Takes a Licking and keeps on Ticking.
I laughed aloud at the "Timex Waggle" sound effect.

Love the color scheme, face is just a little too busy. I'd pay solid 50 bucks more for a thicker soft leather with the same shade.
36mm? Really? Spend the $5 and get a micrometer. It's 42mm.
