    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

      Jonida Sanço Except he has said in interviews many times how wrong they got it on the show. So much so that he wanted it canceled until he realized how much of a good thing it was and that it was getting the conversation started and opening people's eyes so he decided to let it be. But he doesn't watch it.

      Ice Kold Killa I know. But logically speaking you can't expect to sell a concept for other people to make it, and have it done the same way. It's a mixture of ideas and also it needs to be adapted for television. For example the pilot is a little bit weird with the voiceovers and it doesn't really work and now that it's more focused on Jessica it works much better for TV.

    many Sicilians often forget that once our island was the centre of the greatest cultural exchange of the Mediterraneo. People came here from North-Africa, Middle- East countries, Greece, North Europe and all these different people lived in peace in the same place and became the foundation of who we are now. The thing that those people don't understand is that all of this is a wonderful, extraordinary thing and they prefer to rely on something stupid like white supremacy or purity of the species or whatever they called it that didn't ever really existed (not only in Sicily, btw).

    • @tameenhaque2285
      @tameenhaque2285 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Cristina P. If you are from Mediterranean or Middle east, talking about purity of race is plain stupidty. But, race purity might actually apply, in countries like Germany or Scandinavia because those places saw very limited human and cultural interactions until recently. Well, time changes things, and white supremacist will get more emboldened with refugee crisis and immigration, but the thing is stopping human movement is very difficult if not impossible thing to do. Ask, metis, kiowas, inuits etc etc.

      2. I'm talking about democracy
      3. On the other hand, how democratic is your behaviour with your comment?

    • @tameenhaque2285
      @tameenhaque2285 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cristina P. What the hell are you talking about? can you elaborate?
      People in general didn't choose where they were born or nor they can decide where they will die. If you believe in freedom, then every human being has the right to decide where they live and where they die. NO? That's what your forefathers did coming to the new world, and as human being everybody will make sure they have that freedom to move else where wherever they deem fit.

I guess so because you rather not be told because your so cultured. the funny thing is there is no right answer but ignorance isn't it and hate isn't either. From a sociological stand point its easy to ignore your roots if everyone does it and for someone to state it cuz it's so obvi fuck it. So, he saw something in a movie once about a place which he knows nothing and then travels there to teach the locals about their roots by referring to said movie.
    Only in America could this possibly make sense.
    The entire Mediterranean was a cross-cultural exchange thousands of years ago, and Mediterranean cultures have more in common, especially food, than their nominal compatriots further inland. The movie bit in question is itself not original and just something Tarrantino (or to be meta, his character) borrowed from Spike Lee.

    I'm completely fine with a food show using the food to talk about the sociocultural aspect of a country, but not when it's one sided, lately when someone talk about sicily is always about the north african roots, those are undeniable, but what about the anjou monarchy and the aragon and normans and byzantine Empire etc. south italy has been under so many different empires/monarchies that i find really idiotic asking "Do you deny this specific root ?" they have all kind of roots, north europe, eastern europe, african etc. it's not like all those redheads in messina are from ireland.

    *True Romance got it wrong. the Moors weren't Black. That's pretty much a historical myth that became widely accepted as fact in the english speaking world due to Shakespeare's Othello. But the English, including Shakespeare, never actually saw the Moors. The people who fought against them usually depict them as being more like Arabs and always as Caucasian. There might have been some blacks among them but probably not too many, Sub-Saharan Africans were only just starting to get converted to Islam in large numbers as the Moors were being driven out of Europe.*

    • @ervin500

    • @pmstack91
      @pmstack91 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +UrbanFashionTrendsTV the view may stem from a difference of perspective. in many parts of europe, "black" refers to dark skinned people, including indians and some view even arabs in the same light, while we in america use it strictly for people of the darkest shade

    • @mazenal4787
      @mazenal4787 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      omg dude I'm Arab and when ever someone's says the Moors were black I'm like wtf !! it isn't a secret the arabs invaded the Barber in the 7 century and most of the Barbers converted to Islam and not long after that they invaded Europe through Spain first other parts later on , the Moors that you call them are actually just called andalusians (Arabs and amaizge(Barber) which what constitutes Algeria , Tunisia , Morocco.. so yeah they weren't black !!

    • @staurosnika5980
      @staurosnika5980 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ervin Senaj No ! Moors was originally used to refer to the large ethnic group of North Africa, the Amazigh (the Berbers) who were called Mauri. They are definitely not black, their skin tone ranged from white, olive to copper.

    • @ervin500
      @ervin500 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      XtaticApollo I'm saying that the Moors that came into contact with Sicilians were Tunisian. I know Moors covered a large group of people but it was mostly modern Tunisians who invaded Sicily. Moroccans went to Spain mostly.

    Thumbs up for the human panda! Sicily & Malta were under North African (Tunisian) occupation for a while. Place & food names prove it. In add, near 80% of the Maltese language vocabulary comes from Tunisian dialect.

    True Romance is a fucking masterpiece, specially the directors cut. Beautifully directed by the late Tony Scott and with an incendiary script by Quentin Tarantino. I have yet to meet a person that didn't think it was great. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette are mesmerizing. Gary Oldman only needed 5' of screentime to create a timeless crook. The Mentioned Sicilian Scene... man, Hopper delivery is incredible. Gandolfini is also on point. and the "Bodybags 2" scene with Paul Rubinek is as good as it gets. Truly flawless and unregarded gem. Fuck it... I'm gonna go for a Sonny Chiba Triple Feature.

      +Prado73 Whoa, whoa, it's a good flick, but pretty fuckin far from being a masterpiece. Check out the films of Fellini, Bergman, Kurosawa, Orson Welles, Scorsese, John Huston, Polanski, Coppola, Malick, Lumet, Truffaut, Kubrick, Wenders, Fassbinder, Herzog, Lynch, Tarkovsky, Altman, PT Anderson, etc. These are directors who have produced actual masterpieces. True Romance is extremely entertaining, lots of snappy Tarantino dialogue. It's a good time, but it's not a great piece of art.

      Tuan Jim Dude why cannot be a masterpiece? I clearly stated why I think it is. Have you seen trespassing bergman? The guy could easily appreciated ANY Movie for what it really is. I find your comment pretty condescending tbh, why did you assumed I wouldn't know the works of the directors you mentioned? Because I think True Romance is a Masterpiece? Not every film has to be "8½" to be labeled and amazing piece.

    • @tuanjim799
      @tuanjim799 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Prado73 I didn't say I didn't appreciate True Romance. I enjoyed it, as you say, *for what it is* (a kinetically-directed piece of pop entertainment). But I also recognize what it is *NOT*, and I think that calling it a masterpiece is a complete misnomer. It devalues the term "masterpiece." It's like comparing the ABBA song "Dancing Queen" to Mozart's Requiem or one of Chopin's nocturnes. The thing that sets all of those directors I mentioned apart from someone like Tony Scott is they are all artists of a much higher caliber and grander vision. Their works are lyrical, poetic and profoundly moving, and tend to explore perennial themes like human nature, the subconscious, philosophy, sociology, psychology, absurdity, suffering, morality, guilt, longing, isolation, the sacred/profane dichotomy, God (or the lack thereof), etc. Tony Scott, on the other hand, has brought us... Top Gun and Days of Thunder.

      Prado73 Also, if you haven't already, you should watch the film Badlands by Terrence Malick. True Romance was actually *extremely* derivative of that particular film. The story and even the musical score borrowed heavily from Badlands.
