Driveline shafts must make a killing. Running one of these in town is pretty much a guaranteed way to make sure your struggling driveshaft shop doens't go out of business.
I worked for an outfit that designed and built a new style of tire for tractor pulls back in the day. On the first trial run the guy tore up is drive shaft. Company rep apologized, but the tractor owner was pleased, he could build a stronger driveshaft, but never was able to put that much torque to the ground before.
Not a bad idea, just people don't stop and think about the torque multiplier of the transfer case of the rating of the drive line, best to use four high and lock it in first gear, hard on the tranny but easier on everything else
Feel sorry for that clean up crew for the track @10:30 Looks like someone just opened a few bags full of beer cans and threw them all in front of the crowd..
I like the guy that took his brand new f250 just to completely fuck everything up on it by doing a concrete pull. Good luck getting that covered by your warranty
Hell I've only pulled a few sleds with my 78 bronco. It has a dana 44 with chromoly axles and as many splines I could get. I think the stock ford 9" with as many splines I could get with chromoly axles and a Detroit locker helped. Guessing the 5.13 gears help Al's well ad my 205 no transfer case, and 39.5×15×15 tsl super swampers. I have a 351 with the biggest rv cam.never did this. Glad I didn't
no transfer case, and an RV cam? How do you keep the ladies off you? For real though, there's no such thing as a "big RV cam". Big cams (big lobes/big lift and long duration) don't do well at making torque. On the other hand, little baby cams run out of horsepower, as they can't push the valves open long enough to move enough air and fuel into the chamber. Quit calling it an RV cam, as it just sounds ignorant.
Doing this on pavement will cause MANY "Ooops" moments. Never seen this done on pavement before and you would think the pullers are asking to tear up their truck.
Exactly. There's a science to pulling on dirt, wheel speed being just one of them. This is kind of like clamping your tires in a vise and cranking until stuff breaks. The weird dead weight pullers must've bounced around too long and came up with this. I've never seen it before. And now that I've watched more, it looks like they start on dirt and transition to asphalt. Holy shit, I agree with the driveline shop sponsorship comments.
This type of pulling has actually been around just as long as dirt pulling. They start on asphalt, so there is no dirt involved at all. There is also a science to blacktop pulling as well. There is a very fine line of traction that you want to ride. Just a slight bit of wheel slip so you don't break anything.
13:18 I can"t believe that guy pops the hood and sticks his face straight down into what could have been a fireball. Or at least steam, lots of energy stored in there looking for an outlet.
There are actually quite a few concrete pulls. Obviously these are only the breaks. But they are actually quite successful when they all stay in one piece
Not a truck guy by any means and I have no skin in the game but the GMCs/Chevys definitely seem to have more driveline breakages than any other brand and the Fords seemed to have more engine failures.
Tbf tho diesels that be doing this usually are playing a 50/50 on if the engine survives or not. Taking them basically to red line for so long and putting strain on them. I'm surprised some of the gasers got so far tho

Gota luv the fact there's no cage round the driveline to keep it from exploding an hurting the spectators
They put cages around the drive lines on the big tractors because theirs are way more dangerous.
About the only time when they don't have a cage around them is for the daily driven street trucks. Even some of those do.
New to this. What's the guys job in the back of the sled/trailer ?
to operate the weight box transfer system and to stop the sled if needed. If the sled is "self-driven", reverses it back to the start line.
