What is a Shoe Last? | Tricker's shoes

A last is a three-dimensional model of a foot which allows for a shoe to be shaped around it. Lasts are used when designing or constructing a shoe and come in a variety of styles, referred to by their number. Find out all about them and how we use them here at Tricker's.

Finding the proper last for your foot is very important, even if you don't go bespoke. My big toe curves upwards even when resting, so a more English style than Italian style shoe is needed for me. It was not uncommon when I wore sneakers/trainers for me to have my big toe wear through the upper well before I wear out the sole.

So it's a minimum of 2 meetings ? I am asking because it may take me 12 to 18 months in between trips to London... if I choose to go bespoke... Also one's bespoke last, once it's done, can be used for any type of shoe afterwards (derby, brogue, boot...) ?

Yes, there needs to be a minimum of two meetings. Normally, there is a dress last and a casual last. If you're opting for a smart style then you would use a dress last and if you're opting for a more casual style then you would use the casual last.
