- What Is a Shoe Last?
Shoe last is used only in shoe making and the focus here is on professionally made shoes [ not diy or slippers].
Shoe last is the first "tool" that we are using in making our shoes and we will be using it through the entire process of making shoes.
We apply our footwear design on the lasts,
We make our pattern with the last
We last our uppers on the last
We make our soles and heels on the last.
What is a shoe last?
This is maybe the most important "tool" you must have!

LOL! I tried making plaster shoe lasts...they turned out lumpy! I finally bought a pair today. The only ones I could find were sandal lasts and they still aren't wide enough so I'll have to build them up. BUT, they are low enough heel. I hate heels.
Why is it so difficult to find shoe lasts in wide sizes? I'm a woman and I am wearing Men's US 9.5 EEEE 42/43 11cm wide, and I would wear wider shoes if they were available for sale.

I have wide feet and I want to make mary jane shoes with not much heel, so do I have to buy a men's last or a larger size of wooden last and sand it down? The listings I am looking at for lasts does not tell much other than the length.

Yes, its the metal part that is on top of the last. Used to place in on iron pin for work.

@@SKDEZIGN Thank you, but the website doesn't give me any answer for my question. I have the sliding type, and cannot close them anymore, after three opening, closing, which was the hardest thing I've ever made. They're so hard to brake with a rod, but the closing is even much harder, now it's totally impossible. I have to buy new types, the easy opening ones.
Can you use lasts as trees? High heel shoe trees arent available in my country, only lasts for high heels.
