There’s nothing wrong with being slightly politically correct. I feel Clayton is at least equal to Choni. The 3rd prize should been a tie between Clayton and Choni.

Regarding comparing music making quality, listen without watching the past videos, you might be surprised when not watching. I found myself hearing much more when not influenced by watching "how" (or who) the pianist played but by "what" I heard. I believe the jury and other musicians who know the repertoire inside out can easily tell the different levels of playing.
If there’s one Ukrainian on the podium there’s gotta be one Russian. Same goes other way around. I know Choni deserved bronze but khandohi and Stephenson also did too.
Also congrats to the organizers, volunteers, staff, supporters... they made one of the most important competitions and created a platform to share with the whole world such amazing talented artists!!!!

I'm still blown away by Sunwoo's performance of Rachmaninoff 3rd in 2017. I heard it live. I thought it was even more impressive than Lim's. It was shocking. Yet where is he now?

This cliburn was godsend. We've discovered a generational talent, a Russian and Ukrainian stood on the podium together, the entire organization/production/audience inspired a sense of community and warmth - something we can all hope for in the post pandemic world. Bravo!
Clearly, the best pianist won. Yunchan’s Rach 3 was breathtaking. The best I’ve ever heard in any competition. I thought Clayton was better than Choni though.
Sorry but Clay should not even be in the top 6 at all. He was totally unprepared with his Rach 3. Way too many mistakes to count, missing notes, not in sync with the orchestra.
Dmytro Choni performed a very faithful rendition of the Beethoven, but I wondered why he was so careful and restrained. Beethoven's music reveals a passionate soul . Ulladislau Khandohi's Chopin was for me, absolutely delightful. I loved it. Anna Geniusheni's Tchaikovsky was, I feel, the pinnacle performance of her competition programme and she is well suited to it. The awards ceremony held only one surprise for me, but I congratulate the three winners for their achievements. I had been cheering for Yunchan after his preliminary round and not once did he not fulfil my expectations of him. A star is indeed borm.
