Tarpon fishing is a high stakes, high skill, and high adrenaline adventure. When you see that bucketmouth open on your fly... the universe stops. All becomes still... that is if you don't temporarily black out. I love Tarpon fishing and wish that I got to do it more. Being prepared is the best way to maximize your opportunities.

Great tips! Yes, backcast presentation is really important. Also regarding line tangles, the Keys guides I’ve fished with like to use clear lines which are more prone to tangling so line management is that much more important. Another tip is to know how much line you take out per strip so when you get out on the platform you can count your strips and know about how much line you have out.
Joe, I wish you had better and more footage of that big Tarpon you caught. That looks to be a pretty darn big fish. Congrats!
I use a 25 year old Orvis stripping basket, strap broke , use a bungi cork, and I just re glassed the basket 😂. Thanks for the video.

Some humble advice....from experience.....its not a great idea to be in the water with a big tarpon once its played out. I have released many from a boat only to find a large bull shark was waiting for it to be released....
