    I have noticed a considerable drop in water level this spring/early summer. Theres a couple marshes/flats i ALWAYS fished this time of year and i just cant. I kayak fish, and its just not possible to get in there and fish. I have found that has pushed a lot of fish into the 3ft deep docks on the intercoastal. Which has been nice. And i tried a little creek kayaking last weekend and got 2 lower slot snook, and even a longnose gar! On a jerkbait. It was a wierd day. I have lost 3 tarpon this year already, and am heading to Academy to get some 60lb mono after work today for a bite leader. Luckily only 1 of those tarpon got away with the hook, it was a 5/0 circle hook with a 6" croaker on it. The other 2 were mirrodine xls.

    Try putting your hook in the mouth of a pinfish or threadfin, and let it come out an eye socket without popping the eye. Your bait won't get double hooked and it stays alive just as long as hooking them in the back.

    I've been hooking my pinfish in the side of the mouth and coming out the other side. Its been working out pretty good.

    I've been trying 30lb fluoro leader but I cannot get the knot to cinch down tight enough so not hit the tip guide rod. I can't manage to do that. Is this normal? I'm typically using uni-uni knot

      Use a modified Albright knot. The double uni knots are bulky

    Regardless of the application I’d tie on a fluorocarbon leader and since were tarpon fishing here I’d attach the metal leader to the mono or fluorocarbon (I commented this and continued watching 20-30 seconds later you literally are saying the same thing😂😂😂) I use 30 lb high vis power pro I like to see my line

      Also I’ll do a modified fisherman knot to tie on my leader where you pass it through the eye once and back around in the same side and tighten the loop all the way down onto the eye and pinch it with your fingers, do as fisherman’s knot with atleast 7 wraps and back through the opening pinch with another finger to the lure or hook lubricate and sinch down w the main line, really easy knot I’ve had line break before the knot slipped or broke open, easy to tie quick to do and is wrapped around the eye of the hook twice which is always better

    have you considered fishing with mono, and thus sort of having an infinitely long leader? is visibility a concern or can't cast it far?

    • @flatsclasscharters
      @flatsclasscharters ปีที่แล้ว

      I use to do that with my casting set up for years it works!

    What is the difference between seaguar inshore label and gold label?

    • @aaronhiggs
      @aaronhiggs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gold is thinner. Designed more for open saltwater fishing. Inshore is designed more for abrasion resistance. It’s a bit thicker. And harder.

    You mentioned of a Tarpon Grounds in the Port Richey area. Would you be able to give a vanity of area that I can go explore/search? I have a trip scheduled for Friday which I wouldn't mind doing some exploring. I have only hooked one and lost the battle but it was an awesome experience.

      Anywhere out from the mouth of the cotee to anclote works.

      @@iancordova good luck. The water is clear. A long leader is definitely needed. Tightlines.
