I saw Clapton in the early 90's just before his unplugged. It's like seeing Pink Floyd, you leave the concert a different person. The music changes you, you're more than when you walked in, there's something inside your soul that makes you more than the sum of the parts you walked in with. Glimpses of genius from a world I can only look at in amazement and appreciation.
You're right about Clapton's voice, he probably possesses the best guitar/voice combination in rock. The final note Katie K hit was killer and set up Clapton's solo perfectly. She's also a natural beauty, a real stunner.
She also did incredible work with Van Morrison. Was part of the best band he ever assembled. Check out Troubadours at Capitol Theater 1979. She shines.
John, a sterling submission if there ever was one. I have an extensive Clapton collection dating all the way back to The Yardbirds. I don't know where this concert took place but I saw this supporting collection of great artists at one of the concerts that I attended. That's two gems in a row for you.....Thunderclap Newman being the other. Nicely played!
Eric Clapton is, perhaps, a seriously underrated singer, but he has a credible GOAT claim in the blues-rock guitar category! Katie Kissoon's scat on this cut are the best I've ever heard.
I Shot the Sheriff, Layla, After Midnight, Lay Down Sally, Change the World, Bell Bottom Blues, Tears in Heaven, ... Yes, Eric Clapton can sing. If he wasn't one of the best guitar players in history we would all be saying, "that amazing singer Eric Clapton, he can sure play a mean guitar!" He has lent his considerable artistic talents to so many of the most influential bands.
Beautiful version and yes he has a fantastic voice that is underrated due to his lengendary guitar work ❤. Can’t help but mention the extraordinary backup singers he’s always worked with due to his stature!

That one I'm not familiar with but their first hit single, "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" does ring a bell. They were a brother-sister duo from Trinidad (emigrated to UK in 1962). What kills me is that Katie is 48 years old in this video! Live at Madison Square Garden, NYC, 1999. She looks better than she did 25 years before.

Yes of course Katie Kissoon is fantastic but so was Rita Coolidge on E.C.'s first solo album. So why has he been ripping her off for the coda to Layla when he knows damn well she wrote it and had recorded it before she played it for him.

Katie Kissoon, now 72 years young, recently toured with Roger Waters and last month - september 2023 - was backing Clapton again. Fabulous vocalist.
