Ride along with Tesla Mobile Service and fix some electric cars

  • Electric cars require less maintenance than combustion vehicles, but when you need your tires rotated or your filters changed, who ya gonna call? Well, you'd actually just use the Tesla Mobile Service app. Read more on Tesla's Mobile Service - roadshow.co/m2xpe2
    On my ride-along, I witnessed fixes ranging from a Model 3 getting a simple tire rotation at a private residence to an airbag and power steering recall service on a Tesla Model S in the parking lot of a motel.

    I've had a Model 3 for just over a year. I've had 2 mobile service calls - first for the frunk actuator - it took him 20 minutes to fix in my driveway. The second call was for the glovebox latch bc it would sometimes open on its own. Mobile service fixed it in 20 minutes. The process of setting up appts was painless and the wait time was only a couple of days. These are very minor issues and the experience made me feel better about the brand. They are building cars to last - not ones that need repairs to be a profit center. Any other minor issues or bugs are either fixed with OTA updates or by resetting the cars computer. I love not having to waste my time going to a garage, get a ride there, go without my car for a day or two, etc. Mobile service seems so much more sensible.

    No mobile service here in Bangkok. The first service center that just opened up, refuses to sell any parts to an owner down to the smallest clip.
    The people that did the PPF on our model Yp broke a clip mount on a wheel arch trim piece. They would sell the part and install it my self. So the part was about 40 bucks and I feared that they were going to charge me a couple of hours work to do this simple job. When I got the bill, they charged me ฿68 - 68 Thai Baht which today equals $1.88. (One dollar and eighty eight cents) Maddening Ing for people that covet the right to do their own work, but extra cheap. And… the washed the car, wiped all the little hand prints off the inside back window and vacuumed.

    The dealer that I purchased my Lexus from has a similar service. They can send out a technician and do simple maintenance things (oil change, filter changes, tire rotations) at my location of choice. For more intensive or serious repairs, they can flatbed a Lexus loaner to me, flatbed my car to the dealer, and flatbed it back to me for exchange when it is done. The only drawback is the need to schedule an appointment quite in advance.

    Really cool video.
    I guess this is ok for a person who likes to work outside and in nice weather.
    I suspect that this would not be ok or doable if it rains, snows or is otherwise cold.
    Considering that there are little to no moving parts, this would not be a problem.
    But I am surprised that the road side tech was able to get a floor jack under the car to rotate the tires. I was told by a Tesla employees that you can't get a floor jack under the car because they can not support the weight. I see so many Tesla's on the side of the road with flat tires waiting for a flatbed.

    • @scott8919
      @scott8919 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Andrew-zv4fm Big floor jack operated by a trained technician? Absolutely. Little twist jack operated by a possibly untrained driver, possibly missing the jack points and damaging the battery pack? No thanks.
      Likely as much for liability as it is for driver convenience and weight savings. 30% or so of new cars don't come with a spare for weight reasons, and on Teslas there just happen to be a few more reasons why it makes sense not to include a jack kit.

    • @Andrew-zv4fm
      @Andrew-zv4fm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheErsatzCrab yeah I get the weight reduction. No matter what car you are in, Tesla, BMW, Mercedes, Mini or whatever it is still a bad idea not to have spare tire of some kind.
      But as I said before, I was told by a Tesla employee that you can't get a floor jack under the Model S. Regardless if it is from the average person or a trained tech. In the video they showed the Model 3. So maybe with that car yes you can but not with the Model S. Apparently if the floor jack meets the weight requirements of the Model S. The only way to get the car up in the air is by a 2 post lift.
      Now regardless, why can't these cars come with run-flat tires? They have the standard tire. I see so many Model S' on the side of the road or on a flatbed. The last time I saw a Model S with a flat was on Mother's Day. The driver was on an on ramp and could not safely get off the road. He was down to the rim.

      Jay Chu CR downgraded them because they started surveying first production Model 3s, which of coarse will have more issues like every other first production vehicle. The downgrade was bs. Tesla has fixed much of their quality issues over the years.

      @@jaychu3850 LOL went from" rattling issues" to "google the issues I just made up" like you had any first hand experience... GTFO.
      30k miles in a year on my 16k VIN Model 3 and 1 minor issue with my frunk which was fixed in my driveway in the middle on a NY winter by mobile service in 20 minutes...
      Also....No rattles what so ever.....
