I never expected to own my Tesla Model 3 for two years. I thought it would be a fun car to document the experience of, but I genuinely love the car and have happily held onto it. That's not to say the experience has been all balloons and rainbows (both great things), as it hasn't. When Tesla service centers are required, that's when the experience isn't so revolutionary. Long waits, poor communication, and no where to easily order parts. What if you want track package brake pads? Well, good luck. I don't know how to order them. Watch the video for the full breakdown of my Tesla service experiences under my nearly two years of Model 3 ownership.

I think people don't realize how Tesla is against the rights to repair on it's cars that you purchase. Louis Rossmann had a video about it and noted how these big companies make it hard for people to actually fully own and maintain their products when you "purchase" it. In this example having to purchase more than just the parts needed and to another extent just making it flatout impossible to purchase the specific part unless you go to their own service center.
I'm disapppinted at how lazy of a society we've become to not understanding how to even change a car wheel tire because I'm pretty sure a ton of people don't know the process. It can literally save you if you get stuck with a wheel problem.

I just got rid of my model 3 this week.
My model 3's rear lights were changed three times, my windows rolled down by themselves regularly (especially on the highway and they wouldn't go back up) the fans for the ac stopped working on the passenger side, the car didn't come w a spare tire even if you're ready to pay for one and many other ridiculous things.
Worst of *all* is not the product, which would be AMAZING if it was built properly but the company itself.
I drive alot and work for a company right now and my mileage is busted, consequently I had to get rid of it or pay 20¢/km which is ridiculous and would have represented more than my buyback. (I leased my tesla through a third party) I can't buy a car or finance it for technical fiscal reasons but I've always leased my cars and flipped them after a couple months or years. It was financially doable and that's what I do. I went to get myself a model Y last month because the car is fun to drive regardless of it's flaws and when I asked about the leasing program to my surprise there was no buyback option!
I was like what...? thats not leasing it's renting as if I went to Budget/Enterprise/Hertz/Avis and ect. I get that tesla wants them back for robotaxis but wtf kind of company disguises leasing programs into that kind of lie...
Anyway, I had a model 3, loved it, then realized it was very far from perfect but I enjoyed it enough. Glad it's over and I can't wait for the Rivian R1S coming next year.

We have too much work with not enough staff. Appointments are scheduled a week or more out. People are always unhappy. Keep in mind as advisors we deal with 20-30 customer interactions a day, plus carryovers, while also scheduling future appointments, and following up with customers that have left, and maintaining survey scores because their job and pay scale is on the line.

2017 Model S, 70D, 21,000 miles. Quality is circa 1981 Detroit. Last visit: 2nd windshield replacement (1st was installed incorrectly and cracked) because they determined a constant creak was due to a broken weld behind the dash. They spilled windshield sealant on the passenger seat and broke the visor clip. They are going to replace. 3rd visit for the rear bumper parking sensor that gets pushed in..somehow. They replaced the central console as the spring broke and it would not stay open. Replaced the driver side door hand mechanism - driver door would not open (stripped gear) (they told me the other 3 will also fail). One of the USB chargers didn't work. The car is full of squeaks, rattles, pops, etc. Again, 21,000 miles. I have never had a car in the shop as much as this one. Fingers crossed the battery, electronics and motors hold out. So far, to their credit, they have fixed everything, no charge. They never have loaners.
Also, had a blow out and it took 24 hours to get Mobile Service out to change the tire (I live 15 minutes from the Tesla factory). I can change a tire in about 20 minutes. Going to order an aftermarket $400 tire kit.

Service centers hate having customers waiting there (hence why they got you out with a loaner). Car repair often not linear and doesn't go as planned (either technical problems, a car tying up the hoist while the service advisor tries to reach an unresponsive owner to approve a repair, etc.) and delays happen. Appointments are more of a suggestion than a real slot. Some dealers will do better of you tell them when you book you'll be waiting for it, but most of the time the work isn't completed as scheduled.
Now, the fact they weren't sure of the car would be ready at the end of the day is a bit inexcusable for a simple routine service (if you had a failed part that wasn't in stock that's a different story).

It's one thing to disable supercharging on salvage title cars (Tesla owns the network, etc.), but entirely another to disable DC fast charging of any kind. I'm sure Electrify America, EVgo, ChargePoint, et. al. would happily take your money if Tesla doesn't want it.

They don't just disable supercharging they disable fast charging ENTIRELY so if you want to take your salvage Tesla to an Electrify America station YOU CANT! It's basically the same as GM or whoever deciding salvage cars shouldn't have access to the gas pump and need to refill using portable cans...

Oh, goodness. So when he’s cars are 5 years old and a relatively minor accident that would have been repaired 2-3 years ago puts a salvage title on the car because it’s less expensive for the insurance company to buy you out it’s demoted to home charging kw\hr amperage? Basically scrapping the entire car. Yup, that’s how we save the planet...

Well once you have the track package, do the brake pads somehow last forever? At some point you'll need new pads and have to order them or do they make you rebuy the track pack every time?

Brake service is totally normal anywhere there is salt on the roads, and makes a huge difference in the longevity of not only the pads and rotors, but calipers aswell. If you don’t regularly service the brakes on your car where I live, the pads will be usually be seized into the brackets after a winter and the rotors will quickly form large rust lips. This also leads to the caliper pistons rusting worse, and eventually seizing up.

@Camaro 68 Yeah, I'm on Cape Cod working for Toyota and at worst you'd want to service the brakes every 5 years or so. Maybe Toyota's brake calipers don't seize like other brands but "every winter"? Like jeez what kind of pot metal are they shoving into these caliper slide pins.

Imagine someone having a pile of new tesla-wheels "Yeah I take it to the track regularly and have to replace the brake pads from time to time"

Jason, your mistake is to think of the Tesla as a car...it's not, it's a tech product. You should be grateful that they've offered you the opportunity to pay them to b-test their product for them. Change your mindset, and your life will be better...the fit and finish on my 30 year-old Honda (nsx) is way better than than the Tesla model X we just got.
