At this point i think a lot of Stephen King's rambles are more performance to keep being welcome in certain circles. It started because he was always legit upset school shooters liked Rage and wanted to emulate it. I expect he imagines he always has to keep up the image regardless how much on the inside he really cares about any individual issue.
My favorite DC stories: 1. John Bryne 's Man of Steel. 2. Superman: Kingdom come 3. The Dark Knight Returns 4. Superman vs the elite 5. For the man who has everything.
A mighty list. I would have the same, but Kingdom Come would be first, although I'd swap out Superman vs the Elite for All Star Superman, or maybe Crisis on Infinite Earth's or maybe Mark. Waid's The Return of Barry Allen. All great stories. DC has a lot of rubbish these days, but their classic stories are among the best ever written - and John Byrne never gets enough credit for revitalising Superman.
I agree that comic books do not belong to hollywood. Either movies or tv. When it comes to novels. I do not want any "buts, no, why, or how dare they do this!", sort of thing. Fans, and sometimes authors complaining. All because of deviations to the source material. That's what really annoys me. I'm a casual person. That has been a few years ago. This unnecessary arguing about books made into movies, tv shows, or other type of media. This type of arguments need to stop and put this needless bickering aside. Then again, what was the entire point of doing novels as films or tv shows in the first place? I agree they need to be part of hollywood. Maybe that's whole reason books needs be a part of hollywood. I misunderstood this all along. They were not butchering them. They were only wanted to deconstruct, experiment, and be subversions of the novel material. I don't care if authors don't enjoy it. To me, that's fine. I am not here for arguments. Books have the rights to do films and tv shows alike. I don't mind about changing things or going against the source material. Book adaptations need to be their own thing as well. Not just copy what the source material already did.
Comics do change things. I know Ego is Peter Quill's dad. But retconning him in the comics. Was an unnecessary move. It wasn't really needed. It's like doing the same thing to book stories like to Game of Thrones, Percy Jackson, The Golden Compass, Eragon, and Lesser known book series like Earthsea. Books are going to change their canon, because the adaptations are making the source material more popular than before. Books can advertise their adaptations, have the right to be adapted into movies and tv shows. There is no excuse to complain about it. Times are always changing. They have right to deconstruct their own source material. About what can work and what cannot be adapted. To me, when it comes to novel adaptations. Even if it goes against the source material. I have no problem or worries with it. I am okay like this. But, when it comic books, especially Marvel and DC. Unless it is from an alternate world. They can't go against the source material.
I haven't scrolled the comments yet, but Alan Moore finally has his "Dark Knight" moments as he essentially burns his entire mountain of money to send the message that it's not about the money, and it's never been about the money. Don't read too much into the organization getting the money, people, instead focus in on the act itself. That's just me, though. 👺✨🗡👺
Well he's right up to the point of Hypocrisy. I mean he did a contract. He also has money. If he had as much money as I or maybe you and he refused the money based on some holier than thou principle. Than that would be quite the statement. Regardless he doesn't have to worry about going broke. Not a big fan of Mother Theresa, But she was born into wealth and when she turned 18 she gave all her money to charity(something like 18 million). So she basically did a Ozymandias(in fact Moore might have got the idea from her) and started from scratch to prove herself. She's viewed by many a saint. But like Moore, She's had some very hypocritical judgements in her lifetime. Both are indeed Great people. One a great philanthropist and the other a Great Artist. But neither are perfect and it's their ego that allows them to avoid the gaze in the mirror and from time to time do shitty things.
This comment section is mostly brainless but Moore is 100% right to take his money from DC and give it to others instead of respecting and accepting their mockery of his work.
I reviewed The Killing Joke earlier this year and my intrepetation that he gave to the Joker was to make him a death seeker who wants to die, but cannot do that to himself. The reason why he did what he did in the comic to Barbara and Commissioner Gordon was to give them and also to Batman a reason to kill him. Batman especially to make him take responsiblility for causing him to fall into the vad of chemicals, but the fact that none of them do that is the punchline to the joke of a life the Joker exists in. Alan Moore more than likely didn't mean it to be like that, but looking at it from that perspective makes it more interesting to see a method to the Joker's madness that most people from both the real and fictional worlds cannot recognize.
Well it's interesting to actually hear Moore's opinion on two authors that were completely snubbed from being referenced in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. But of course he thinks that way. Lines up perfectly with the views he hammered into Century and Tempest.
I kinda get what he's saying about fantasy. There's an entire WORLD of myths and legends out there to pull from yet it to ALWAYS comes back to hacks ripping off Tolkien. Yer not gonna get a "hawk the Slayer" or " krull " outta these guy's. Hell they bugger up Conan half the time. Moores wildcats was a fantasy in disguise if ya think about it. I think he's bemoaning the unoriginality when he started at 2000ad where really amazing stuff like slaine and nemesis the warlock were thrilling fans in the 80s
It's par the course for Moore with what he put in Tempest. He's seeing this a backwards thinking concept that's not helping use the genre to introduce "new" ideas. But as was also common in the LOEG I doubt Alan Moore could name any published fiction in the last twenty years unless it achieved mainstream attention or was written by a friend of his
HBO's Watchmen is one of the most terrible shows i've ever watched. The only good characters were Looking Glass and Lube Man. The show also showed the psychic squid attack (which is also Looking Glass' origin story) and it worked just fine. Would have worked in the movie as well. Damon Lindelof's idea of Hooded Justice being a black man wearing white make-up around his eyes is even dumber than the evil twin Jokers from Gotham. That was just Mexican soap opera levels of cringe.
the watchmen animated movie could be cool if done right and is a 1 for 1 adaptation but Dc like to make the endings so bad you would never of thought of the twist cause its so bad but they over use the watchmen ip. Also wish he gave the money to a charity that didn't use the funds to by mansions but its his money.
I think Alan Moore was overly petty about the film adaptation, other than some minor tweaks you couldn't get THAT much closer. He basically got the Peter Jackson levels of quality with the Watchman film. Jack Haley has one of the most memorable performances in a comic book movie ever. It's one of Zack Snyder's most stylistically appropriate movies, probably at his best even though I don't care for him as a director, without going overboard like he does in everything else he touches. Is it perfect, no, but I feel like Alan Moore is one of those creatives where nothing would ever be good enough no matter how good or accurate it was. He just doesn't like his work in other people's hands, which is fair only to a certain extent. The Killing Joke is overrated *drops mic*
He's said on many occasions that Watchmen was meant to be a comicbook, and nothing else. He and Dave Gibbons crafted a story that was to utilize the medium of (long form) comicbook storytelling to the maximum degree; this was how he deliberately wrote it. Yes he kind of treated all of his comicbook writing this way, but with Watchmen he explicitly made sure to make this the case. I've also heard him moan about how comics are increasingly being considered nothing more than movie story board pitches. That he is increasingly against adaptations of literature into other mediums in general also might have a lot to do with his opinions. It's interesting to note though that David Hayter sought out the blessings of Alan Moore personally before writing the script for the Watchmen movie, and Alan gave him said blessings, but from what I've heard it was only because he knew the movie was an inevitably anyway so practically told David to just go get paid and they'll be no hard feelings about it. I may not 100% agree with absolutely everything Alan Moore says, but because he knows how to explain his motivations and opinions so clearly I will always understand and respect why he feels the way he does.
Some of us are still quite salty the man who gave us Dead Alive and Heavenly Creatures neutered the hell out of The Lovely Bones. Returning to Middle Earth ain't making us forget that.

Wes: "I hate this saying." Me: Fighting the urge to comment said saying on every video he posts for the foreseeable future. On a separate topic. The black and white ending to the video was great, I hope we see more of it in the future 😂
Controversial opinion, but I liked one thing about the Tom King Watchmen-related comic: he didn't really mess with the original cast, so in that sense he made less mistakes than the other series.
It do feel Moore has a bit of a point when it comes to Tolkien since that is the common take on fantasy in most media. He is likely tired of seeing medieval fantasy stories with Tolkien elements the way you are of hearing about shows trying to ape George R R Martin.
People need to stop overpraising Moore. He was part of a trend. He didn't create a trend. It's gone to his narcissistic head. As a few examples, The Dark Knight Returns (it and Born Again are better than Watchmen), Camelot 3000, and Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme, which did superhero deconstruction better, (and Akira) were before Watchmen. Why are pundits dropping Frank Miller out of history now (he was much better than Moore in the 80s, but he declined in the 00s)??? It's like they didn't begin reading comics until the 2000s. (Kraven's Last Hunt, which was influenced by Watchmen and Born Again, was before The Killing Joke.) Moore is trying so hard to be anti-racist, he must be extremely racist. Anyone who would give that much money to BLM instead of needy animals or people is a fool and creep.
Well done you could not put it more right about Alan Moor and how he feels about the comic books industry. And I like what you say about Alan Moor and how good a writer he is . The man stick to his principles and that is telling a lot and he doesn't care what anybody thinks about him. If he didn't came to American comics books we would not have Grant Morrison, Mark Miller and Garth Ennis. For me this is like the Beetle and the Rolling Stones a second Brit Invasion. So he was very important in the comic books business in writing good books story. I am clad what you have to say and thank you very much. 📚👍👍
Alan Moore was formerly a good comic book writer for DC Comics and Marvel Comics. But that was 30 to 40 years ago. Not anymore. He hasn't been a good writer for nearly 30 years. If he was actually even writing at all. His personality is stank just like his politics. He will die a bitter old man. A champagne socialist who likes to play the part of crazy old wizard who wants to be seen as a disappointed hippie and a failed New Bohemian but instead just comes off like a flake and a British Ted Kaczinsky who spits venom on his work because certain fans of his are in his eyes caustic. Even his own daughter Leah is sick of his vitriole and has decided to not associate with him anymore. Moore is overrated and he has his legions of loyal sycophants but the truth is, he is a has been. He may have been the freewheeling anarchist of the 1980s, but his days as a force in comics are over. He made his mark. His legacy is set in stone. But apart from his yes men who think he can do no wrong, he will not be seen as anything other than an old man and a fool.
Moore only makes headlines when he’s ripping the industry that made him famous. Maybe if he hadn’t given drugs to minors I might actually like his work more.
People focusing on where he’s donating the money are missing the actual point Alan’s making here, and that is like Steve Ditko and Eric July, he cannot be bought. I’m sure the choice of BLM sounded good to him and he gave it no more thought than that.
Alan knows he’s not going to save the world with his Watchmen money, but he can absolutely use it to drive home to Damon Lindeloff to fuck off. (He’s also smart enough to know that anybody out trying to save the world is really just avoiding something at home.) You should look up videos of Alan Moore speaking to people of all ages at his local libraries about the importance of reading. Anybody else here done that lately? He’s also a dedicated parent and that’s far more important to recognize than making fun of his haircut.
I respect Alan Moore and his talent. He is amazing. But that money should go to a trust and be used as grants for other creators to help them get into the entertainment industry. Giving it to BLM is kind of exacerbating the problem.
@jeromemaida4933 where do I start. Moore was really angry with Geoff Johns because Blackest Night was an idea taken from him. Three Jokers, takes a lot from the "Killing Joke". I don't need to explain Doomsday Clock and Before Watchmen...
September means two things to me. Birthday weather, & re-reading From Hell. The first 2-3 pages are an argument over Socialism. I appreciate him (cause God knows us comic kids love Swamp Thing), but I really wish he would stop letting Hollywood dictate how he romantices how American media influence everyone. As far as his uber punk rock financial move, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
Brilliant guy incredible writer But I’m confused what his end goal is…is he hoping DC stops publishing Watchmen and gives it back to him because they don’t want to be connected to him giving DC royalties to BLM I understand his anger this is probably much worse than when Todd and Neil were in dispute over Angela and Todd lost and it got sold to Marvel Because that’s just one character Watchmen is a whole universe he can’t do anything with I think there’s greater things he could’ve done Maui citizens still need help from the fire but it’s his money 🤷🏻♂️

While Alan unfortunately has the tendency to be a complete twat, I do not disagree with some, if not all of his assertions where DC is concerned, especially with descisions made under Dan D. And You are Correct in your Point about Alans Stories being the Exception rather than the Rule, He once told me he never intended his stories to Change the Genre as much as it has. BUT Alan Has very specific Beliefs, borne out of the Socialist / Anarchist Punk era of the 70s where he was shaped by the Economic and social strife of Great Britains transition out of a recession into the Yuppie era, a lot of the 2000AD writers were influenced in that way, and you could see them on Labour PIcket lines and mob action as much as the comic cons. He also has a very dark and morose personality that has its own Quirks, some rather on the occulty and some a bit provocative ( I certainly wouldnt Partner with my Daughter on some of the more shall we say Liberal Concepts he has written ) All in All, While he can be Amiable, and have a nice cup of tea with you, His outlook on life isnt the kind that makes you want to seek his company because its uplifting… most people gravitate towards him because of his reputation, and what it might do for them which Pi$$es him off even more. HIs contribution to BLM is a sad one, he like so many have been blinded by thier fakerism. But then he supports other Socialist and Communist groups as well so its no real suprise.
What if Moore donates his royalties by cashing them out, then tossing them off a roof, watching random people trample each other for the dollars? Makes a great comic book panel.
He seems to make extremely foolish decisions based on not having a solid grasp of events in reality despite evidence visible to the whole of rational society.
Frankly, I would have had more respect for him if he would have said to give the royalties to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
St Jude lies to people. They take the money and use it for what they want. They never save a single soul.

My favorite DC stories:
1. John Bryne 's Man of Steel.
2. Superman: Kingdom come
3. The Dark Knight Returns
4. Superman vs the elite
5. For the man who has everything.
I prefer Johns Secret Origins.Superman was in your best shape in the Pre-Crisis Era.
@@RRTNZ Byrne ruined Superman in many ways in my opinion.
Man of Steel is overrated trash.

To be fair, despite how crazy and stupid, and wrong that Alan Moore is, he is right about Tom King.

Alan Moore isn't the only one criticizing the comics industry. Mark Waid is doing this too.
I respect the decision, his choice of organisation not as much though. :s
You misread his point about tolkein/Martin. He's not dissing them, just saying that the copycats aren't playing at that level;
If you read most of his meta work in League, you'd better understand why Wes was correct.

Forever my favorite Comicbook writer ever.
He's a goon and edgelord deconstructionist. Nothing more than that.
@laverdadescatolica5 I’m a fan of him, he’s my 11th favorite writer
@laverdadescatolica5 Saga is good?I never read this comic yet.
@laverdadescatolica5 It’s a great story, it’s unfortunate that the tv adaptation couldn’t live that long
Oh Alan Moore..the original Old Wise Guy of the Comic Mountain that told people ' DC Comics Suck!' way back before it got popular!
It's not Less, it's Alan Moore!

I think selecting BLM was the stroke of genius for Affable Al. It's a "TAKE THAT!" to the Powers That Be at Warner Bros./Discovery. If I were CEO of a major corporation, the organization I'd least like to give it to would be BLM.
I know i keep talking about this but..Do you know that Dmg had Alien Books take over the publishing but Dmg still owns the characters? Like i wonder what's Alien Books ganna hire??
I saw this article and new you'd do a video.
I don't like Alan Moore from his interviews.
Thankfully I own the books I need so I'm not funding BLM. Good.
Wes: "I hate this saying."
Me: Fighting the urge to comment said saying on every video he posts for the foreseeable future.
On a separate topic. The black and white ending to the video was great, I hope we see more of it in the future 😂
He could have done the most of basic research on BLM.
There's a reason why people hold such a disdain for the organization.
Maybe he figured it'd be a faster way to dispose of it than lighting it on fire.
Apparently, Alan Moore supports scams.
Think the fact he thought he was a wizard is a red flag.
@@mikehunt1924 The fact that he waves a red flag is a bigger red flag ;)
I blame the "progressive" grand kids
People need to stop overpraising Moore. He was part of a trend. He didn't create a trend. It's gone to his narcissistic head. As a few examples, The Dark Knight Returns (it and Born Again are better than Watchmen), Camelot 3000, and Gruenwald's Squadron Supreme, which did superhero deconstruction better, (and Akira) were before Watchmen.
Why are pundits dropping Frank Miller out of history now (he was much better than Moore in the 80s, but he declined in the 00s)??? It's like they didn't begin reading comics until the 2000s. (Kraven's Last Hunt, which was influenced by Watchmen and Born Again, was before The Killing Joke.)
Moore is trying so hard to be anti-racist, he must be extremely racist. Anyone who would give that much money to BLM instead of needy animals or people is a fool and creep.
I liked doomsday clock
Well done you could not put it more right about Alan Moor and how he feels about the comic books industry.
And I like what you say about Alan Moor and how good a writer he is .
The man stick to his principles and that is telling a lot and he doesn't care what anybody thinks about him.
If he didn't came to American comics books we would not have Grant Morrison, Mark Miller and Garth Ennis.
For me this is like the Beetle and the Rolling Stones a second Brit Invasion.
So he was very important in the comic books business in writing good books story.
I am clad what you have to say and thank you very much. 📚👍👍
What principles,?
So one of the best comic book writers out there is a terrorist sympathizer... yeah the entire industry is rotten.
Two words: Jan 6th.
Well not the only one that’s has bad blood against DC.
Which is a shame. Since there are literally thousands of charities and schools that could use the money better.
Donating it to Scientology would have been better than BLM
Anybody trying to save the world might be because they live in it. Or they have compassion and respect for life.
Nothing wrong with trying to make the world a better place to live in, however one chooses to do it!
I respect Alan Moore and his talent. He is amazing. But that money should go to a trust and be used as grants for other creators to help them get into the entertainment industry. Giving it to BLM is kind of exacerbating the problem.
To be honest, Geoff Johns has milked from Moore's ideas much more than Tom King.
How so?
@jeromemaida4933 where do I start. Moore was really angry with Geoff Johns because Blackest Night was an idea taken from him. Three Jokers, takes a lot from the "Killing Joke". I don't need to explain Doomsday Clock and Before Watchmen...
Prob stop people buying the books ? Good move ?
Moore should have disappeared years ago, now he'a just a cringe factory.
Take everything he says with a grain of salt.

But I’m confused what his end goal is…is he hoping DC stops publishing Watchmen and gives it back to him because they don’t want to be connected to him giving DC royalties to BLM
I understand his anger this is probably much worse than when Todd and Neil were in dispute over Angela and Todd lost and it got sold to Marvel
Because that’s just one character Watchmen is a whole universe he can’t do anything with
