Even though I literally read the pitch doc earlier today, hearing the narrative-ized version was really compelling, and I was so appreciative of the context section at the end. I've more or less felt about Moore how y'all eventually land since I got into comics, I learned a lot about the way the companies have screwed over creators pretty early, but I'm so happy to see you shift on Moore a little. I'm gonna pick up what is supposed to be his final comic, the long delayed book about magic he did with his late mentor, and I've been looking into his movie work recently. The collection of prose short stories he did, Illuminations, is really good and I'm so glad he continued to be creative despite his favorite thing basically grinding him down to dust
Thanks for listening! Really appreciate that. I fully admit that my mind was changed by this experience, and I wanted to share the journey that I went on with everyone in hopes that maybe some people who felt like I used to would be swayed. Are there any other subjects that you would be interested in hearing a similar breakdown of? We have one going right now about the new 52.
@@TheComicsPals I've been catching snippets of the new 52 one and really enjoying it. I work a weird schedule so I don't often catch y'all live but I thoroughly enjoy catching the occasional replay. In my mind, you guys are up there with Comic Pop and For the Love of Comics as some of my favorite comics TH-cam folks. I would be interested in a Mœbius and/or Geof Darrow deep dive, although that might be too broad a subject. You could go through the Jodoverse (Incal, Metabarons, etc). I've been interested in it for a while but only have read a couple things from it
Honestly, after reading the whole document, I found Moore's thoughts on events and story telling more compelling than the story itself. It comes right in the middle of Moore's mean streak in his writing so I find it a bit dark, and since it has been so stripped for parts since 1995 most of the individual character ideas weren't that interesting, but I am a sucker for John Constantine and that part really compelled me. I'm only 10 minutes into this comp. but I'm excited to see what y'all think of it all. It made me wonder what the world would look like if DC hadn't screwed Moore on the watchmen rights and he kept willingly working with and for them for a few more years. I think something of the same ilk would've happened eventually, his politics and artistic impulses seem anathema to a corporate environment like DC, but getting a few more stories with these characters or seeing how this story evolved from pitch to writing and then art would've been incredible. I feel like his ABC stuff is the optimistic Moore the fronts matter of this doc shows us, which then gets screwed by DC again, so I don't blame him for his cynicism or cutting off too much
Oh boy. Yeah, I have a LOT of thoughts about the doubt, Moore and DC. You’ll hear a lot of them if you choose to continue listening (I hope you do!), but I feel like you’re right that DC and Moore would have broken up eventually anyway. Maybe if things go down differently though, maybe more amicably, he could have returned to DC down the road, or gone to Marvel. It’s a fascinating what if that we’ll sadly never know the answer to. Anyhow, thank you for watching this video and sharing your thoughts about the subject matter. This video is very important to me so I appreciate it.
@@TheComicsPalsAlso, tiny note that doesn't really matter, but Beast Boy was named Beast Boy on the Doom Patrol, he became Changeling when he joined the Titans and then the name changed back later
I feel allen moore is often seen as a cynic but i feel hes just obviously jaded towards dc and modern comics. I recommend reading promethea to see his sort of magnum opus
@@TheComicsPals I don't think we'd see on screen it be something subtle like a mouth to mouth kiss or an implied relationship. Subtlety, he's good at that.

Thanks a lot, that’s really high praise! We’ll do our best to live up to it 👊🏾👊🏾
I have never heard of this story, but this was a great video and fantastic format
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.

I still say Mark Waid read the Purposal and used it for some of the basis of 'Kingdom Come'.
It’s hard to believe that it didn’t in some way influence his thinking.
Sort of glad but sort of sad it never got made. 1) it's Allan Moore, 2) Shazam family incest.
Yeaaaah I don’t think that part would have made it into the actual comics lol.
