UNEXPECTED TUK TUK SCAM, BANGKOK THAILAND

Unexpected tuk tuk scam, Bangkok, Thailand. The Thailand tuk tuk drivers have a terrible reputation for scamming tourists. They offer you a cheap fare to your destination, like in my case just 200 THB, approx £5. Once your in the Tuk tuk they will offer you the free shopping trip with some Bangkok attractions thrown in, so its sounds like a great deal.Beware as this is one of the oldest scams in Bangkok, Thailand.
If you accept they will take you to their sponsor shops where they get a percentage of the sale if you purchase something. Such shops as tailors, gold, souvenir, etc. If you decline to purchase anything thing then does work in the tuk tuk divers favour. He will ensure that the last shop you visit is remote and getting back on your own to your hotel will be difficult, almost impossible. He will demand several thousand Thai baht maybe 3 to 5000 THB to get you back, If you decline, he drives away leaving you stranded. Most tourists will now realise this has all been a scam and pay the money.
This was my experience of the Tuk Tuk scam in Bangkok. I knew the score and politely declined and arrived at my destination safely.

I always used Grab bike in Bangkok, the best option and cheaper than tuk tuk 😀

Tuk tuks in Bangkok for Farang always a scam. Even 200Baht from Lumphini to Sathorn is a rip off and not cheap.
I cannot even understand why Farang want Tuk Tuk.... they are tall, and it is uncomfortble and they can't even watch the streets....
I bet most of these scammers have luxury mansions😂?
They usually get money from the shop that you enter. And 1 thing people dont know in thailand that if you take a taxi to a club in bangkok you can just dont pay anything to the taxi as the club will pay them for each person they bring.
My tuk tuk driver offered 35b from pratunum to khao san rd. He demanded 350b when we got there. I left 200b on his seat. I will NEVER catch a tuk tuk again. Most Thais are really good but tuk tuk drivers are a whole other story. Thanks for showing this scam.

200baht is expensive. Stay away from Tuk Tuks in Bangkok. Taxis will use meter if you stop a taxi on the main roads. Taxis parked up are scammers and will not use meter. Grab or Bolt will save all hassle but a meter taxi is cheaper.
Taxi from Lumphini to Sathon would be 70 Baht.

I used to love taking tuk tuks in bangkok but they're always at it. Hua hin they tend to be okay but they're expensive!
Yes mate Really is a lottery when I broke down in my car tuk tuk driver was brilliant and really helpful, but that was in Hua Hin. Hope your both well and hopefully catch up with you both at some stage, cheers Jim
