- Pokemon Competitive Singles is about to be turned on it's head with the upcoming release of the "Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" DLC. With many new and returning Pokemon on the horizon, one that stood out to me was Kommo-o. With the new ability to Terastallize, and it's extremely vast coverage options, that Clangorous Soul boost is going to be a lot easier to take advantage of. Kommo-o might just be better than ever in Gen 9.

Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on TH-cam. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

I'm personally excited for Tera Normal Boomburst on Kommo-o, especially with Clangorous Soul, Drain Punch and Throat Spray. Kommo-o has always been one of my favourites.
Could even run aura sphere over drain punch so you can run max special

The only problem with kommo-o is he does to much I can never Decide what to put on him
At first I didn't like Kommo-o's design, but he's subtly grown on me over the years, and he has the Dragon-Fighting typing which even from the beginning I thought was really cool.

I feel this when I play pokemon games, I have a hard time changing my team late game and when I found jangmo-o in the trial I really wanted one then seeing kommo-o I almoast didn't use it cause I have always gone for cool looking pokemon since the games van be braided and I'm glad him on now I absolutely love the design
Fair. Unfortunately, he was introduced at one of the worst times for a pseudo legendary with that type combination. Gen. IX at least offsets the obvious X4 fairy weakness with terrestalisation, and if Komo'o was introduced in Gen. V or earlier, he could have had a generation or few to shine prior to fairies raining on his parade. Maybe. He still would have to deal with the weaknesses to Flying, Ice, Psychic, and Dragon. Particularly Dragon thanks to the plethora of fast dragon types and Ice thanks to Landorous-T encouraging basically every team to carry Ice coverage.
I wish the other Z-Moves were made into regular moves like Clangorous Soul were. That was a cool concept change. I think it’ll be decent in OU or a fringe UUBL option if anything, especially with Enamorus, Valiant, and a handful of Unaware walls running around. Maybe Tera Steel to beat them with Flash Cannon?

It’s what I said they should’ve done to Ultra Necrozma’s Z-move so the form could return. Just need the BP of the move and give us the form back. Either that or force it to use it’s Item slot to change forms.
Clangorous Soul always existed in gen 7, Soulblaze was just the Z-move version of Clanging Scales.

Soul is the nerfed version of Soulblaze.
I just wish that GF didn’t remove Autotomize from the game. I liked the option to sharply raise Kommo-o’s speed.

kommo's highest stat is its defense and it also has access to iron defense body press with solid speed. you could use tera fighting iron defense, body press, drain punch, clanging scales, or use any two coverage moves with any offensive tera. you could even do a mixed double dance set with clangourous soul, iron defense, body press, clanging scales
Doubling down on fighting moves and using iron defense over clangorous soul sounds miserable when you can just use the proven annihilape set but with pseudo legendary stats and a roided up bulk up
2nd set loses to gholdengo, even with a defensive tera most gholds run nasty plot anyway and can power through the boosts, even at max sp.atk clanging scales only 3hkos offensive ghold
that set is mainly meant to be like zamazenta where you boost to +6 and brute force through the other team after eliminating ghost types but yh it was just an idea
@@griffs_ losing to one pokemon isnt a deal breaker for a sweeper everything has one counter, and in this case its very easy to take it out first. just use tusk with knock off

I think the one thing that Kommo-o has that you forgot to mention is Tera normal boomburst. We’ve seen pokemon like toxtricity and noivern take advantage of it in lower tiers and kommo-o has the advantage of being able to boost its spatk
The combination of Tera Normal Boomburst + EQ + Flamethrower seems pretty much unwallable when coupled with a Throat Spray boost - only Ting Lu can really handle it, and even it can get 2hkod after rocks, and it will get owned by any fighting type move on it.

i tried using a substitute clangorus souls in gen 8. It was super gimmicky and was easy to too with all the defensive pressure around and abusing it’s typing, but now I can see it being a legitimate threat and I’m very excited for him. Love this mon
Kommo-o would be a great recipient for a future paradox form, i think they could make something cool with the design

I’ve been saying! With Kommo-o and Metagross confirmed to return, I’d love to see a past paradox of Metagross and a future paradox of Kommo-o. Would be a great way to flip two Pokémon who look more futuristic/ancient already

I honestly think kommo-o will do better this gen even if tera gets axed, simply because there are less fairy types to deal with
Yeah but the few that are here, mainly enamorous and iron valiant are both able to outspeed and one shot it with moonblast even after an omniboost with their scarf/booster energy special/mixed sets so there may be less available but they are very effective counters

Tera=Ghost with Bulletproof is a really interesting shout due to the reliance on Shadowball... I feel like that has to end up a common set.

Even if Kommo-o's nature as a boosting mon makes him helpless to unaware walls, the variety of sets you can use on it will hopefully keep it OU this gen

Also, going tera steel may not be all that bad of an idea, seeing as with soundproof you can block torch song, though bulletproof may be better for things like focus blast and neutral shadow balls.
Everyone sleeps on soundproof and bulletproof, but they forget that those abilities block some of the most powerful moves in the game.
Tera Normal Boomburst is gonna be fun!

I think a very viable set would be one with Tera Normal Boomburst, and maybe a Clangorous Soul/Substitue in there. With Bulletproof, Kommo-o can become the ultimate Skeledirge counter, as well as being able to omniboost and use up throat spray, then be able to easily clean with 210 BP Boombursts and coverage

My honest reaction: Moonblast is a Fairy type move introduced in generation 6. It has 90 base power and it is a Special move.

Man Bulletproof + Sitrus Berry would make it not only immune to Shadow Ball, but also Poltergeist.
Hopefully Darkest Lariat gets more distribution to counter this.

Kommo-o dropping in will either run Bulletproof or Overcoat, Moonblast and Shadow Ball from Flutter Mane will have to be improvised and along with the threat of Tera-Steel, if the Flutter Mane runs dazzling gleam then you can bring any defensive mon with Wide Guard, this could be the anti-Flutter if worked well enough
I would not be surprised if Tera Electric thunder punch becomes a thing for donnnnndozo

U think terrastrualizatjon is gonna go away like mega ev / z moves / gigantimax or will it last through out other gens. Cus I think it’s an amazing mechanic that is so simple. Take the core fundamentals of Pokémon aka elements and make that a mix up
In my experience, Tera Steel Physical Kommo-o is also very good, but i can see why is not as preferable as Tera Water of Ghost (Great Tusk)

kommo-o can also tera normal and get stab boomburst. tera fighting to get double stab body press or run a similar Body press defensive with a different tera-type

I really like the overcoat ability just so amoongus spammers can’t use spore and I also like using Glimmet and Cresselia in doubles because i drain punch glimmet to get health back after clangorous soul and set up hazards

I always liked Kommo-o. I loved to use Belly Drum Substitute Salac and sweep everything except Unaware Clefable.
I've been using Kommo-o off and on because I always felt like it has potential, but I just can't get it quite right. It never works out for me.

I love Tera Ghost on Bulletproof mons even though it's only really going to work nicely here (Bulletproof on Ursaluna is a bit of a waste and Chesnaught prefers other types), I can't wait for Kommo-o to be back
