@@dvnmaycry Dude they literally opened a second studio to focus on live service games. Square didn't make them. And we have all seen "first shown" footage turn out to be vertical slice lies tons of times, Platinum is not immune to that
These two should know fully well at this point that worshipping a company name and thinking they can do no wrong is a bad idea. We literally saw Bungie being just as much at fault for Destiny as Activision after they went independent so it’s not always just the publisher.
From Square Enix's own mouth: “Square Enix made the request for PlatinumGames to develop the game,” explains producer Junichi Ehara. “The topics we asked for were ‘high fantasy’, ‘hack and slash’, ‘co-op play’ and ‘live-service’.”
Imma be real. As soon as we got details about this game, I immediately knew it would flop. But this was far worse than anything I couldve imagined. @@dippycord1678 They can afford to hit or miss, because they know their “mainline” Final Fantasy titles will sell; which always dwarf the sales of their next-best sellers anyway. According to what we know, SE wasn't the ones who pushed for the live-service model, that was all Platinum. So let's not pretend Platinum is some poor victim here, they're fully capable of making terrible decisions on their own.
On their own, Platinum set up a live service Tokyo studio in 2020 with the investments they received. As easy as it is to blame the publisher, Platinum clearly is also looking to get into the GAAS model with or without Square as a source of revenue.
People are quick to jump at Squeenix to protect Platinum, but I really do think the blame is mainly on Platinum. I don't know who exactly, but someone at Platinum really wanted a live service game to work out. Now they've gone and blown their foot off with a shotgun. I hope they don't bleed out from this. Or, at the very least, I hope Bayonetta 3 is one of the best swan songs ever released.
@@Tuck752 but nier and Astral chain sold so they shouldn't be in dire straights also they have a mobile game and a remaster that didn't take a lot of money to make

I've heard a lot of people saying this is probably just as much Platinum's fault as it is Square Enix's. Supposedly, Platinum came to Square with the idea. Take that into account along with multiple statements from high level Platinum execs stating this is the direction they want to go, and it's pretty clear there's some internal problems at comapny. It's really starting to look like it's not just the publisher keeping them down anymore.
Man when I played this demo and saw that they had a premium pass and currency after they expect you to pay for it I just uninstalled. I love Platinum Games but boy this one is rough.
Y'know, hearing about Nosgoth is so dissapointing as someone who recently discovered the Legacy of Kain series. Those games are awesome and deserved a better fate than what they got. Ironic, considering the themes of Legacy of Kain are rejecting fate.
Nothing will ever come close to that level of story telling and voice acting, LOK was waaaay too beautiful to exist in the modern shitty game industry reality.
Legacy of Kain easily has the best written story of any game series in the medium... It's clear that someone either at Crystal Dynamics or Square Enix wanted to revive the franchise, and Nosgoth, the DLC for Lara Croft: Temple of Osiris, and the Dead Sun cancelled project were all desperate attempts to bring attention back to the franchise. It sucks but the series will always be left in that open ending that Defiance had, but it could always had been worse. Now Amy Hennig is president of a development studio that is making a game for Marvel... not exactly the place to go for interesting narratives. I don't think we'll ever see another series with a story that fleshed out.
I'm worried Bayo3 is just gonna be another Bayo2 and honestly that's just not good enough to save them especially when its shackled to only being on Switch
They could easily break the Platinum curse, they just need to find a publisher that will just let them do what they do best and not chain them to a bad concept, and that game will SELL
The closest they’ve come to such a publisher or relationship is with Nintendo, who single-handedly saved Bayonetta from being a one-off. They also need(ed) that niche filled, since they don’t have that many hardcore action games/franchises. (No God of War or Devil May Cry) Apart from them, the only publisher I can realistically see going for Platinum and kinda meshing well with them, would be Capcom. The idea would be, to let Itsuno make Dragon‘s Dogma and Kamiya returns to Devil May Cry or something like that. Otherwise I see no publisher to work with PG…
@@cloudrider9142 Kamiya would butcher Devil May Cry, he wants it to be more like the new god of war game, DMC is Itsuno's baby now and no one will take it away from him
I don't think that Platinum is totally innocent here seeing as they said the idea for babylon fall was "Nier Automata but it never ends." And they've made bad games before like Korra and TMNT
I wouldn't say Korra was bad by any means. It was just very simple, most likely because of small budget from Activision. The game costed like 20 bucks when it came out, for a licensed game that's pretty cheap, considering how the combat actually works very well, it's just pretty simplistic compared to other good platinum games.
I just hope Platinum just shat on that project once the suits came in, and were like "do the BARE MINIMUM and focus so you can work on the next project as soon as possible" I just hope there were aware enough.. early enough... I don't want them to die.. not again
No one believes that cause every time they showed the game it was changed drastically in intent and scope and then nothing for a long time before confirmed done.
Yeah, the big issue with chasing the GAS train and hoping to catch lightning in a bottle is that they aren't pulling the lever of a slot machine, they are making products that need to attract and retain a customer base. These people should know better than me that every failure degrades their reputation among their customer base and within their own industry, and that makes their next attempt even less likely to succeed. They'd probably make more money just spending all that otherwise wasted time and resources on making a standard, but high quality game.

What doesn't make sense is what they made was absolutely a single player game when they first showed it. It was turned into a live service game later so the idea they always intended it to be one doesn't feel intuitive or true off the bat
From Square Enix's own mouth:
“Square Enix made the request for PlatinumGames to develop the game,” explains producer Junichi Ehara. “The topics we asked for were ‘high fantasy’, ‘hack and slash’, ‘co-op play’ and ‘live-service’.”
Imma be real. As soon as we got details about this game, I immediately knew it would flop. But this was far worse than anything I couldve imagined. I know platinum basically made this with a gun to there head and that they want to branch out from their standard style, but jesus this was awful.
At least on the bright side, devs can point to this as the biggest "I told you so" for awhile.
But the problem with that is obviously square enix doesn't give a fuck if there game flops they just keep pumping them out
@@dippycord1678
They can afford to hit or miss, because they know their “mainline” Final Fantasy titles will sell; which always dwarf the sales of their next-best sellers anyway.
It wouldn’t be so bad if it were a case of them giving their devs room to experiment and try new things, and they just didn’t sell well because the concept didn’t click with audiences. But it is always them shipping intentional garbage to make quick cash.
I feel like Platinum's "luster" has always been wildly inconsistent. But now people are tired of ignoring it.
Maybe not "tired of ignoring". That implies bias. But the Ls outnumber the Ws and it's just more noticeable now.

We'll see all the details in the post mortem.
Oh i know, its just that SE is even more retarded for banking this right after Avengers
Remember, Deus Ex died for Avengers
I'm expecting to see: "Babylon's Fall - What happened" at some point whenever the details of development shows up

Square Enix makes another stupid decision in a row
People are quick to jump at Squeenix to protect Platinum, but I really do think the blame is mainly on Platinum. I don't know who exactly, but someone at Platinum really wanted a live service game to work out. Now they've gone and blown their foot off with a shotgun. I hope they don't bleed out from this. Or, at the very least, I hope Bayonetta 3 is one of the best swan songs ever released.

if it pays the bills, eh. i'm more concerned with platinum being alive, than if they put out a banger each time.
It's really starting to look like it's not just the publisher keeping them down anymore.
one bad live service game doesnt actually indicate a trend though. however 3 bad live service games does equal a trend on square.

The uncanny feeling of a game looking like a "bad first-generation xbox 360 game" I know exactly what you're talking about.
@@vaan_ If im honest, im content with the open ending of Defiance. It's satisfactory enough.

Man, it finally happened. We’re seeing Platinum fall apart just as we saw BioWare.
(No God of War or Devil May Cry)
Apart from them, the only publisher I can realistically see going for Platinum and kinda meshing well with them, would be Capcom.
The idea would be, to let Itsuno make Dragon‘s Dogma and Kamiya returns to Devil May Cry or something like that.
Otherwise I see no publisher to work with PG…
They chained themselves to GaaS

I don't think that Platinum is totally innocent here seeing as they said the idea for babylon fall was "Nier Automata but it never ends." And they've made bad games before like Korra and TMNT
I wouldn't say Korra was bad by any means. It was just very simple, most likely because of small budget from Activision. The game costed like 20 bucks when it came out, for a licensed game that's pretty cheap, considering how the combat actually works very well, it's just pretty simplistic compared to other good platinum games.
Speaking of Korra and TMNT, i still remember Woolie saying "you can't get more sicker than Platinum working on your IP, no matter what it is"

I am shocked to hear that a game I never even heard of has been subpar. SHOCKED. Well, not that shocked.
Wasn't scalebound an amicable situation? Didnt both sides admitted it wouldn't really work? Would that be a shit publisher situation then?
It was but Woolie can't let Platinum take any blame.
We learned nothing from the WoW clones. Nothing.
