On one hand, Platnum is on verge of bankruptcy so I can see why they went this path. On the other hand, this is destroying consumer goodwill while not being likely to bring in the massive profit they were expecting. Honestly, I would be down for a co-op dungeon crawler like the vaporware Deep Down, but this just isn't it.
Platinum is nowhere near bankruptcy, they got a huge investment from Tencent and are working on their own self-published games. Babylon's Fall was just contractual work by their D-Team for Square Enix. It's fully funded, published and owned by Square Enix, Platinum had no say on whether this would be a single player experience or a live service thing. This game completely flopping is not going to have the effect on Platinum you think, they already got paid by Square.
@@Akira-si2ww Babylon's Fall falling(haha) definetely not what both PG and Square Enix wanted, and no doubt will affect the company. If that's was not the case how can they been on the bankruptsy line in 2017 if they always been paid to made games for other companies? In fact i think, that you being optimistic for no reason since: - W101 Remastered sales judging by the number of reviews extremely low, so even PG hardcore fans didn't buy it. No numbers on sales at all which a a bad sign. - No one cares about Sol Cresta, especially with ridiculous pricing like this (50$) - Bayo 3 will not sell a millions, especially knowing that Bayo 2 still can't hit 1m. copies on Switch and that's including Wii U numbers, on the platform with 103m. user base. - They made huge investment into expanding numbers of workers and opening Tokyo office, but yet to produce something heavily profitable like Nier:Automata was (6m. copies sold) and the bills needs to be paid. Babylon's Fall flopping certaintly doesn't help. - Project GG is releasing god know's when, and like the most Hideki Kamiya games will sell poorly. There's no confirmation about D-team, especially knowing that the director Kenjii Saito was a main Programmer of Bayo 1 and on of the directors of MGR. Also Hiroshi Yamaguchi the Okami compositor on the soundtrack. I seriously doubt that "D-Team" were paid lower just because. Yeah, they had Tencent money for now, but how long did they keep company afloat, and what do they ask later for this gift, that is a question.
That thing about moving on from Automata is so fucking true. Hopefully it doesn't ruin platinum cause that game had a much simpler gameplay compared to the previous ones. OUTRIDERS WAS NOT BILLED AS A LIVE SERVICE GAME. Just a complete game which it was. And they gave extra content for free, and the devlopers said that they wouldn't be making DLC.
The devs never said that about dlc. They said that depending on how the game did and player reception would dictate whether additional content would be added or not. Which is why there is an expansion coming out because despite a rough start Outriders was actually considered a success.
@@MrJUSTchr1s No, they said that the game is full and a complete pacage, there wouldn't be DLC, they then gave free DLC. They immediately announced a sequal. because the launch was good.
Let's face it, Platinum never had good story in their games unless it's based on another game, like Revengeance or Automata. And my god, Square Enix management likely killed this game before it released. Can't wait for NFTs as well

I had that exact same thought about the title card drop. The a title card drop should be at or after an epic moment that has you like “okay NOW we’re in!” But this was like “eh yeah… get off the boat, see a bunch of boring nothingness… Title.” The title drop should’ve been RIGHT after the Gideon coffin kills those people, not BEFORE because that’s the moment where you find out shit is fucked up. But then they missed the mark even MORE cuz there’s a SECOND title card shortly after that’s also weirdly timed? I knew the game would disappoint me from there… just bad attention to detail and direction.
I got to the first fight, it felt(and looks) terrible and stiff and I immediately deleted it off the PS5. The audacity i had to actually give this game a chance while forbidden west and elden ring were just sitting there waiting to be played.
I don't think Outriders was live service game, live service implies a whole bunch of monetize content after release, last I checked that game that didn't have that
OH YEAAAAHH! I fucking love it when some obvious uneducated interference in a process just ruins the whole thing. so much time, effort, skill and talent just fucking flushed down the toilet by (obvious) external incompetent decicions. LOVE IT. at least now I don't have fomo on this game any longer. I hope Platinum won't die..........
With how this game ultimately turned out, "Platinum's Fall" may have been a more appropriate for it. Though I have a feeling that most of the blame probably lies at Squareenix here.
8:55 this was the moment i dropped the demo, because at this point it wasn't a demo for me anymore, i liked the idea of the game but it didn't hold me very long
Me remembers outriders clames of being a "complete game at launch, Isn't a GAAS" platinum games "Designed to be a GAAS" At least outriders was nice enough to lie to my face. I do think Square Enix may have done something to force Platnium to make BF a GAAS since the og trailers look so different or maybe its just a little bit of optimism trying not to think that another game studio has fallen this far.
Outriders was never supposed to be live service, and it didn't fail. It was a fun game that had an end, much like the Borderlands games, but with slightly less content. They have a planned DLC, and no "live service" updates to speak of.
No, Outriders was a live service that was broken. There was no fun since many people couldn't even play the game and the loot bug. It completely failed.
@@stanknight9159 it has no season pass, no in game store, no dlc, no battle pass, no log in rewards, no any kind of monetization at all. it was broken at release but it was not a live service game.

I can't express how disappointed I am As a Nier automata fan, I was expecting so much from this game. I had the possibility to join the beta and I was already incredibly disappointed ( you talk about the graphics, but the paintbrush effect was even worse back then and made the action unreadable), beta phase 2 and still remained bad I hoped, oh I hoped ! That the final release would be better. I tried the demo today and I came to the same every single ones conclusions as you This is soooo far from the quality of Nier Automata...
This is a stupid nitpick but Outriders was always marketed as a shooter with a campaign and maybe one or two DLCs if it did well. They were actually pretty up front that it was NOT intended to be a live service game in any way. A series one day maybe, but not a live service game.
This is the first time I've seen someone else mentioned Metal Gear Online 2 in a video like this. That game was worth dealing with the account shenanigans because it was awesome, but this game? oh boy man what the fuck happened
I actually downloaded the demo the moment it was announced just to see how bad it would be (beecause I'm a jaded bastard whose ability to be excited for new games was killed years ago) but then it wanted me to make a square enix account and enter it on a dualshock for a _demo_ so I just deleted it immediately and switched to that Fromsoftware game I've been meaning to play. By which I mean Metal Wolf Chaos XD. I've actually also been playing the Vanquish Remaster as well and...well it certainly is a juxtaposition that shows how far Platinum has fallen. You said this feels like seeing them take up drinking but I think it's more like, that was a while ago but now is the first time they come home blackout drunk with a belt in hand. First they were crowdfunding for a remaster. Ok that's weak but they were independently publishing a remaster of a Wii U exclusive with a cult following. But then they released the successor to Okami as an ios cashgrab that had to retroactively be turned into a non-mtx based REAL game following the backlash that probably wouldnt have even worked if Apple Arcade hadnt offered them a spot in that service. Now they made a garbage live-service at Squeenix's behest and are now working on a...successor to Final Fantasy Tactics. And while I'm all for developers branching out I seriously don't see why they're Co-Developing a top down tactics game that frankly looked like the most jank thing i've seen in any recent release for a long time. ....Anyways this was some well made content! Nice thing about these dumpster fires if nothing else is finding smaller but quality channels as i take in the schadenfreude (see the aforementioned cynicism).
Considering how greedy or broke Square Enix are recently with all the pricing... I think its their fault for ruining Babylon's Fall... I was really looking forward to that game and not this mess
Platinum: "Here's some Us stuff, since you hired us." Squeenix: "No, stop, change it." Platinum: "okay we changed it. Here's some more Us stuff since y-" Squeenix: "No, stop, change it." Platinum: "okay... here's some-" Squeenix: "Ship it."
I'm convinced someone at Square Enix just said "FFXIV makes us so much money! Just make us another FFXIV! I don't care how you do it, I just want MORE MONEY!", to the point of corrupting single player games to make them live service co-op button mashers.
2 years later, and I was never aware of this... I freakin' love what Platinum has put out, and it would be a sin to let the company go under due to publisher bullshittery. There's no way in hell this is the game Platinum wanted to make. Not even close. The weird thing is Square Enix let them make Neir: Automata, which by all accounts was a really weird risk on their part. And it did well! Why would they think "Hey, you know that company people like that makes sweet action games? What if instead of letting them do their thing and make us look good, we did what literally no one wants?"
This is definitely an example of a greedy corporate CEO saying, fuck single player, make it online, add a paid battlepass, but no, make it a full priced game too. Remove all the cool stuff you can do, you cant do it in co-op. Basically fuck the game you had planned because we want money.
Platinum feels like its had a producer problem since its inception. Even their more coherent games like MGR was shown to be completely different when showing the games off to media outlets. The only games that feel polished inside and out are the Bayo titles
It's crazy that even Absolver looks cleaner than this. Their style was intentional and looked amazing. Then I look at the PS2 "Final Fantasy-like" game...
Man, SE is really trying to get their own Live service game, which is understandable, but do you know what a live service game needs to work?, the same thing Avengers, Anthem and other games didn't have.. A good foundation.
At this point, square enix feels like it's not letting its developers create their vision and instead chooses what they think is more profitable. Balan wonderworld wasn't even supposed to be a console game, it was supposed to be a mobile one but square insisted it be published for consoles. I know that Platinum can't always be expected to pump out action game masterpieces (wonderful 101 is an example of this) but I don't think they would develop this type of game if not for publisher influence
Worth pointing out that most of the dungeon/mission issues Babylon's Fall has also apply to FF14's dungeons and raids. Not defending Babylon (I will bitch without end about that part of 14) but it goes to show how much the total package can influence how you feel about the different pieces.
I think The Division is possibly Destiny 2's closest competitor in the Live Service front but they haven't added any new content for a while and Ubisoft would probably proceeding to make a 3rd one like they did with Assassin's Creed. Destiny 2 has its own ups and downs. Learned one thing, ruined another, fix one thing, mess up another.
“What is worth more? Bad video games or life? Is it worth more than food? Worth more than justice? I know i am late but shoehorning implies it was just sapled on at the last second. Its more like they hammered a shitty limiter into the car's engine with a sledgehammer a week before the prototype is due
If Square are so desperate for a GAS, why wouldn't they they throw as much money at the project as it needs? We know Platinum can work magic, so it's not lack of talent.
I did like Astral Chain quite a bit! But the tone of it, especially at the end, is less fun than the examples at the end. There's some fun in the side stuff, but sometimes on the main path it felt like it was emulating Nier's wistful shades of grey, if that makes sense. Good game, I just didn't know how to feel when the credits rolled.
I was so disappointed I made this in two days. I put off playing Elden Ring out of some maddening need to talk about this game.

You can either pay with cash or with your precious time, and with combat this bland, I think my time is better spent with another game.
In fact i think, that you being optimistic for no reason since:
- W101 Remastered sales judging by the number of reviews extremely low, so even PG hardcore fans didn't buy it. No numbers on sales at all which a a bad sign.
- No one cares about Sol Cresta, especially with ridiculous pricing like this (50$)
- Bayo 3 will not sell a millions, especially knowing that Bayo 2 still can't hit 1m. copies on Switch and that's including Wii U numbers, on the platform with 103m.
@@Akira-si2ww
Platinum games has been corrupted, just like all the rest. they are a garbage company now.
That thing about moving on from Automata is so fucking true. Hopefully it doesn't ruin platinum cause that game had a much simpler gameplay compared to the previous ones. Without Taro the style is fully souless, no interesting enemies nor world, nor ways of the game interacting with the player. Just a grind fest
Live service: exists
Square enix: *While eating rocks* why is my games failing?
"It is made by Platinum Games."
Me: Oh?
"and published by Square Enix"
Me: Oh...
and here i thought it was only dragon age suffering the curse of "single player game focused on story turns into online multi player". too bad only dragon age 4 apparently managed to escape this fate ç-ç
I can only pray that Bayonetta 3 is good enough to save Platinum from the past few years of either mediocrity or ...well nothing, it's been this and Astral Chain for the past 3 years now.
@@TheGoreforce It's not a sequel its an expansion to the original game.
Woolie and Pat from CSB sent me! Great vid man, hope to hear more
Let's face it, Platinum never had good story in their games unless it's based on another game, like Revengeance or Automata.
And my god, Square Enix management likely killed this game before it released. Can't wait for NFTs as well
Im having a feeling it might be more square enix and less platinum. stranger of paradise is pretty mediocre too and that weird considering Team Ninja's Nioh games are great
@@Saint-Soren Being a Final Fantasy game, I imagine they were under very tight constraints by Square.
I don't think Outriders was live service game, live service implies a whole bunch of monetize content after release, last I checked that game that didn't have that
It was supposed to be a live service game it just failed too quickly to maintain its runway
Buy Wonderful 101 remastered y'all, its a platinum masterpiece that deserves more
May I remind you this was the same company that brought us metal gear rising revengeance
I got to that SE account login screen, saw that job application they require for a user name, then immediately deleted the demo.
Personally like Outsiders, it's fun. Babylon's fall not so much
8:55 this was the moment i dropped the demo, because at this point it wasn't a demo for me anymore, i liked the idea of the game but it didn't hold me very long
I didn't think I'd have a visceral reaction in my gut, yet here we are.
Nicely done on the video. Well-paced and gives the most important details.
I cant wait for Matt's Wha Happun
I actually cannot believe they're charging £10 more than Elden Ring for this on Steam.
When it worked I enjoyed it too
Just shows the guy who made this video has no idea what he’s talking about.
@@stanknight9159 it has no season pass, no in game store, no dlc, no battle pass, no log in rewards, no any kind of monetization at all. it was broken at release but it was not a live service game.
"its an expansive maze where u run through thousands of rooms" "what? how are we going to make thousands of rooms?" "we wont. we'll make like 6 of them and then copy and paste it procedurally" "oh okay"
I can't express how disappointed I am
As a Nier automata fan, I was expecting so much from this game. I had the possibility to join the beta and I was already incredibly disappointed ( you talk about the graphics, but the paintbrush effect was even worse back then and made the action unreadable), beta phase 2 and still remained bad
I hoped, oh I hoped ! That the final release would be better. I tried the demo today and I came to the same every single ones conclusions as you
This is soooo far from the quality of Nier Automata...
That game was worth dealing with the account shenanigans because it was awesome, but this game? oh boy man what the fuck happened
the end times ... the end times are hereeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Me: Warhammer Fantasy ??
This is gold happy I found this channel!
Absolutely loved this video, you had me laughing until my sides literally hurt. I think I'm going to get the game now xD
Nice video, i like your style a lot. Cheers
Big reception on this video... You might have to cover more of babylong fall
Good vid. Hope you get the subscriber count you deserve.
Platinum: "Here's some Us stuff, since you hired us."
Squeenix: "No, stop, change it."
Platinum: "okay we changed it. Here's some more Us stuff since y-"
Squeenix: "No, stop, change it."
Platinum: "okay... here's some-"
Squeenix: "Ship it."
I had my impressions that this was bad, but I didn't realize it was THAT bad. Great review
I'm convinced someone at Square Enix just said "FFXIV makes us so much money! Just make us another FFXIV! I don't care how you do it, I just want MORE MONEY!", to the point of corrupting single player games to make them live service co-op button mashers.
So...Many...Better games have been fed to Squares GaS woodchipper. Eastern or Western dev, doesn't matter they both have an awful mandate to fulfill.
Shempai recommended you, now I can tell why
U-uhm, w-well at least we stil have Bayonetta 3.
BAH GAWD PLEASE LET THAT GAME BE GOOD, FOR FUCK'S SAKE.
Platinum feels like its had a producer problem since its inception. Even their more coherent games like MGR was shown to be completely different when showing the games off to media outlets. The only games that feel polished inside and out are the Bayo titles
@Bam OuttaDaBayou
Haven't played either yet, plus I forgot about them when writing this
Should probably get w101 on switch
And Automata, and astral chain. Kinda shame when most of their polished game is only on the switch.
I wish I saw this video a few hours ago 😂
I bought the deluxe edition. I feel sick.
Save your money. It’s not even worth $15.
It's crazy that even Absolver looks cleaner than this. Their style was intentional and looked amazing.
Then I look at the PS2 "Final Fantasy-like" game...
After you named your character I instantly subbed
Man, SE is really trying to get their own Live service game, which is understandable, but do you know what a live service game needs to work?, the same thing Avengers, Anthem and other games didn't have.. A good foundation.
fun fact: the day this game released, the number 1 trending game on steam was Sex With Hitler 2
Didn't know SE was planning to release Anthem 2
Buns brought me here - Great video! Really funny, keep up with the good content, you got a sub :D
God Hand music!!! You are cultured
I enjoyed the anthem loading screen more
At this point, square enix feels like it's not letting its developers create their vision and instead chooses what they think is more profitable.
I can't believe this is the same team and project leader that made MGR.
WoolieVs was right great video.
Worth pointing out that most of the dungeon/mission issues Babylon's Fall has also apply to FF14's dungeons and raids. Not defending Babylon (I will bitch without end about that part of 14) but it goes to show how much the total package can influence how you feel about the different pieces.
This is quite didn't from your usual content. I like it.
Man I sure do love nouns
This will be a ps plus game later this year
When all your money comes from ffxiv, you feel free to throw some misses out without feeling it in your pockets
and yet still they refuse to give ff14 the budget it needs
Hi, I was brought here by Castle Super Beast. Nice vid! Dear god, why did they go with that art style? lol
“What is worth more? Bad video games or life? Is it worth more than food? Worth more than justice? Are you more concerned about the protection of a poorly made video game or the protection of our planet and people? The cost of living crisis is part of the cost of oil crisis! Fuel is unaffordable, millions of cold hungry families, they can’t even afford to eat a tin of soup!”
I actually confused Babylon's Fall and Elden Ring with each other for the longest time.
Love the game! Can't wait to play it 🤍
...how do you love it if you haven't played it?
4:15 I heard that! Top of the Humans!
You can tell they shoehorn live service into this game. Almost like it was an afterthought
I know i am late but shoehorning implies it was just sapled on at the last second. Its more like they hammered a shitty limiter into the car's engine with a sledgehammer a week before the prototype is due
4:28
OH
I was just playing dragon's dogma as I was watching so the mention of it threw me in for a loop
anyway, 2012 game btw!
Dead before arrival
Metal Gear Survive levels of bad. Speaking of Metal Gear, these guys somehow made Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance!
How?
great video man, :) enjoy your sense of humour, and honest reviewing
If Square are so desperate for a GAS, why wouldn't they they throw as much money at the project as it needs? We know Platinum can work magic, so it's not lack of talent.
Dragon Age 2 on PS3 looking-ass game.
I noticed the lack of astral chain there, at the end
I did like Astral Chain quite a bit! But the tone of it, especially at the end, is less fun than the examples at the end. There's some fun in the side stuff, but sometimes on the main path it felt like it was emulating Nier's wistful shades of grey, if that makes sense.
Good game, I just didn't know how to feel when the credits rolled.
