- Introducing a new puppy to your dog can be a wonderful thing, but it is also very time consuming and stressful for many of us. I made this video as part of my Yorkie 101 series, and I hope that it makes your transition with your new puppy so much easier.
Although it can be hard to imagine at the beginning, most dogs can and will get along eventually with the right supervision and encouragement, it just often does not happen immediately.

Thank you so much for this video, I am bringing my Yorkie puppy home on Tuesday and I have another dog that he is going to be one year on May 13. We have trained him to be gentle to small puppies he is such a sweet boy. He is a mut, but we can tell that he has a border collie and Doberman mix he is a medium dog.
I hope they are doing well together....

Where did you buy your yorkie?
Megan, love your videos. I have a 10 year old yorkie, and a 14 month old yorkie. We are getting a new yorkie puppy in a month. The new puppy will be a sister to my 14 month old. I’m hoping they will be able to play once she is older and this will give my older yorkie a break. The older yorkie does play but she gets tired and of course the younger one (Teddy) wants to still play. Thank you for your videos.

I actually have the yorkie named Hershey. We got her as a puppy Now she's 11 years old. She's the best dog ever she loves People.

I’m so glad I clicked on your video. We are getting a puppy for our 7 year old yorkie in May. Petunia will be 7 in October and is still high energy and my husband and I live somewhat quiet lives except that we have an RV and travel through out the year to visit family and sight see. Our Petunia travels well and she loves to play with other small dogs. We will be picking our new puppy up while traveling in the RV. It’s tight quarters so how would we introduce Petunia to the new puppy? Thank you again and I’m a new subscriber.

I have a 14 month old(Minzi) and getting his sister (Myla) from another litter in a few weeks. (She will be 10 weeks). I’m excited to complete our family.

This has been very helpful. I have 2 yorkie, aged 9 and 8. I have enjoyed them both b silently believe the age is too close. Both are girls b my 9 year old has always needed more reassurance. I’m wanting a third yorkie and will consider your advice closely.

I have 2 Yorkie boys and I am getting a new Yorkie female tomorrow..I am soo excited but not sure if my pups will be excited about it, and mine are not fixed should I get my older pup fixed? Or not? Any tips for me?
Hi there, that is exciting for you. I do think it is a good idea to always fix your dogs, but it won't be possible befor tomorrow. Did you have any other specific questions?
Hi Megan, could you go over in detail more about crate training?
I have a yorkie girl 12 weeks old and she does not like the crate, I tried putting treats and toys in there and she won’t even go near it. I did try to put her in the crate but she screamed so much and for so long, my heart just broke cause I didn’t know the difference between crying and panic crying.
I guess she will sleep with me 🙂

I realize this is an older video - but I’m curious what the sleeping arrangements were for your dogs when you brought a new puppy home? I’ve heard mixed reviews that we can crate the puppy (and our current 1yo Yorkie) together at night, or crate separately? What worked for you? Thanks!
I used a crate or a playpen and it was great. I think you could decide what works best for you (knowing your current dogs personality:)

Hi Megan, this is a quick question, does any of your yorkies scratch a lot? My Teddy 14 month old scratch’s a lot it seems, he went to vets and they said his skin was a little dry but nothing Drastic. If I could please ask what do you use to keep your Yorkies skin from getting too dry especially during the winter. Thank you ❤️
Hi Kay, my Yorkies were scratching....but I give them Polipet to stop it. If you click on the description of this video you will see a discount code for it. It did not work overnight ( took 4-8 weeks) and must be given in small amounts, but it helped to detox my dogs and their health and energy is so much better now.

We have a 4 1/2 yo male yorkie and just put a deposit down on a male yorkie from the same breeder - same grandfather - we will get Archie mid December Our Winston LOVES to play and run with other dogs. We live in a 40' RV with a fenced area. Ideas to intoduce?

I have a four-year-old Yorkie and was wanting to get another one soon. I don’t have a lot of people at the house, so do you think it would be OK if they met with the puppy outside of the crate or do you suggest a puppy being inside a crate? I am so nervous because my baby girl has been the only dog in my household and is so needy and so sensitive and emotional and I am definitely going to be reassuring her how much I love her when there is a new puppy, but I am scared she will get upset. she was a Covid baby so she is not very sociable. She is really shy so I’m just really nervous about how this is gonna go.

Hi, I have a year and 6 month old Maltese male dog named Leo and I love him so much. I work during the day and I thought that if I buy him another dog he would be happier and he could have a companion. I brought home a three month old shorkie black and white puppy and maybe I should have introduced them outside first and brought them into my condo together, but when I brought the female shorkie puppy inside my cindo my dog went crazy. I believe my dog is very territorial and my dog got jealous of the new puppy. My dog started attacking her, trying to bite her, he kept barking at her especially when she picked up his bone, my dog kept trying to hump her, my dog also kept hovering her and he kept pushing her around. Maybe I introduced them incorrectly, but I was scared of the situation and my dog wouldn't stop barking and I live in a condo with older neighbors who constantly complain. I ended up returning the puppy and I feel horrible and I fell in love with the puupy, the whole situation is devastating and I love my dog Leo more than anything in thw world. What should I do in this situation? Or what should I do in the future if I decide to try to bring home a new puppy to meet my older dog?
It sounds like it may be a good idea to consult a dog trainer and work with one before you consider getting another dog.
I actually have a video about introducing a cat to dogs and it’s basically the same premise but it sounds like it all happened far too fast. It should be a very very slow and deliver it process.

I got a girl yorkie she is 2 years old and a boy yorkie who is 3 years old and I brought home a new female yorkie but my 2 year old and 3 year old yorkie want nothing to do with the new one they won’t even go around her now my 2 year old yorkie is very attached to me and has separation issues what do I do and how do I get my two older Yorkies to accept the new yorkie puppy?

That is so exciting! I can't wait to hear all about it:). Honestly, if there was one thing I could change, it would be that my dogs sleep in my bed...but I think around 18-20 weeks was when Lola started to sleep in the bed:) What do you think is a good age?
@@MeganGraham It’s true. Once they start sleeping with you, it’s all over. I believe Roen was around 5 months old. With my other dogs, one only slept with me in the winter. He had his bed beside of mine and preferred that. His brother would sleep with him until I came to bed and then he jumped in as well.
How to make sure your older yorkie does start doing what thepuppy is doing as in peeing in the house my older yorkie is 8yrs,oldandmy puppy is 3 months old
Sounds like you need to either hire a dog trainer or read some books on puppy training.
My Yorkies four years old I just got Maltese two months old puppy. My Yorky doesn’t want her in the house. It is been four weeks. She constantly barking at her and doesn’t want her around. I don’t know. I’m so desperate what can I do
It took 6 months for mine to get used to each other. Four weeks is nothing.
