I’m so glad that I’m not the only one with a territorial, barky, feisty yorkie!! She starts fights with all the neighborhood dogs and my two other dogs! She’s my favorite little girl on the entire planet and I wouldn’t have her any other way, I hope she lives to be 20! Thank you for making this video. She was an unexpected addition to our family and I didn’t know what to expect. I was very surprised by how tiny and fierce she is!
You are definitely not the only one! Today I took all three to the park and this girl came running at me with her little dog and she was like I’m going to say hi and I was like no no no no no! They are not friendly please still come up to us. It’s also hard because everybody just assumes that they are friendly because they are small, and they are far from it!
You just described my male Yorkie to a tee except for other dogs. He likes dogs his size. He’s a rescue. Owners couldn’t keep him. Six years old. Have had him 2 1/2 years. Love him to the moon and back!
My Yorkie never goes potty inside the house and he doesn't bark at all. However, even in his older age (9 years) he still absolutely loves to play. I mean, you cannot play enough with him. He's also extremely sweet and wicked smart. Something about him just completes my heart. A great companion and a best friend.
That is a fantastic way to look at it. I agree, but wanted to present it as a con, because there are so many people that may feel differently, and it would be too much work for them:)
definitely is a con if they growl and snap at you for trying to brush.. my pup is only 5 months old but for whatever reason gets aggressive with the brush 😬😓
I always laugh at the “Cons” because I just never see the negatives when living with Yorkies. They are wonderful companions and worth every second. 🙏🏼🤙🏼
Being a Yorkie owner I'll tell you the biggest con is when your little ones grow old and eventually die its the hardest most difficult pain, like losing your children.
True, and I know what you’re saying. However, I make this video so that people understand all the different aspects of the Yorkies. I’m really working to educate people so that people that would give them up or abuse them or treat them poorly will realize that they have traits that they may not like before they get them. I really make these videos to protect Yorkies. You might not think that they are negatives, but trust me some people will.
I have a yorkie and haven’t had many of these issues. My dog is friendly with all her dog and cat friends. You don’t have to groom them that often if you don’t keep the hair long. The first year was the hardest for potty training and after that it’s been almost perfect. Their bladders are tiny so it takes awhile. Don’t be discouraged by these cons…they are the best small dog with big dog attitude.
I had a Yorkiepoo for 14 years. I rescued him. Some of your statements were very true. Thank you for this information and your site is wonderful. Thank you
You've nailed the yorkie breed. I've got a 5 year old male and he's so sweet but over the top territorial. I did find it interesting with what you had to say about potty training. Mine was a year old when I decided to get him fixed because he continued to mark out of spite. Surprisingly after he got neutered he hasn't had a single "accident" in the house. In fact he goes to the back door and lets you know he needs to go and if he has to poo he'll bark once. He's incredibly intelligent. Love my little guy.
I have a 13 year old Yorkie that I adopted when her mommy passed. She was never able to successfully potty train her, though she is doing remarkably well in her new home. Her mommy was beating herself up because her baby wouldn't potty train. Then she joined some Yorkie goups online and leaned that she was not alone. Comments from owners confirm that Yorkies are difficult, if not impossible to potty train. So congratulations! Your baby is the exception and you can bask in the knowledge that he is exceptional. 🥰
I think your review of Yorkies is pretty much spot on. The only thing to include is to prevent jumping off the couch/chair as it will damage their back legs. Also this breed will change your life and become your best and close friend. Their loyalty is phenomenal. Subscribed.
There are zero cons to owning a Yorkie! They win you over with their cute awesomness and you change your ways to suit them because they're so wonderful. I love both of mine ❤
It's great that you feel that way. I think there are cons, and I don't mind them...nut I share them so people that would be bothered by them do not buy yorkies that will later be rehomed.
You are spot on! I have had five Yorkies in my life and presently have a little four pound sweetie that looks so much like your little ones. I agree with all your pros and cons of Yorkie behavior and I wouldn't or couldn't live with out one in my life. He is my little shadow and you my dear are a younger version of me. LOL Love your channel!!
Hi Linda:). I feel exactly the same way, I can't even imagine my life without a yorkie. 3 sure is a lot, but I do love them all so much:). Thank you so much for your kind words about my channel. It is so fun to share my videos, and get to meet people (on here) from all over the world! ❤
I have a Maltipoo who I love. Just got my first Yorkie and he is 5 months old and not a barker at all. However my Maltipoo is and does the barking for him. He is everything else you described and I love him so much. Is the barking something that comes later? My vet and groomer also commented how lucky I am because he is so calm and quiet. Love my Yorkie to pieces! 💕
You are right on everything. My girl is 11 yrs old, thank God she's not the barking type and not stuburned at all, maybe because I am more than her. lol! She follows me like a magnet which I love and if she doesn't see me, she's going nuts! I love her.
Ihave been a Yorkie owner for 10+yrs.iam a senior of 64 yrs.they are stubborn and it can be difficult to train thembut i never had a problem to pottytrain but I am still saying to"go potty ", toat 9 yrs.old Yorkie .iknow all of the pros and cons. .you have to train for life.ihave hard wood floors which make it great.they are yappy little dogs minds bark at the mailman UPS,guys.Amazon people but iwouldnt take anything for Yorkies.
I am so glad you talked about what most yorkies, (we have had 4) are really like. I would also like to add that they don’t love to be left at home by themselves for long periods of time, they can get very anxious, they are really the wrong bred to have if you are planning on leaving them for long periods of time. Also, this is soooo important, along with their daily grooming they need their teeth brushed, they are known for having teeth issues and this can cost you a lot of money at the vets.
Please ask the person who bred her to hold her for longer. In most cases it is ILLEGAL to bring home a yorkie till 8 weeks. That said, you should never bring one home till 12 weeks. I would question the "breeder" you are buying from. Anyone that cares about yorkies would not send them home that early. I do say this many times in my videos.
I have had yorkies, all my life. I have had a total of five, throughout the past twenty years. Yorkies, can be trained (actually the owner needs to learn how to train their dog) to not bark, and if you get what's called the "puppy cut" - you don't need to groom your yorkie every day. With the puppy cut (even for older yorkies), their hair stays very neat and tangle-free between grooming. The pros you mention are true, and the cons you mention can easily be overcome. Also, all the yorkies I have had, and have one now, Milo, are very friendly with other dog breeds and sizes. Milo, of course, prefers to be just with me or other humans over dogs. I don't suggest yorkies be in a household with kids under the age of five, yorkies are fragile, and if a child accidentally drops the yorkie, the fall can cause permanent damage to the yorkie (I know this unfortunately as a fact).
Nice to hear. With all dogs socialization is so important in the early age. If it is not done other dogs feel like threats and the aggressiveness is of fear.
I totally loved your video! I had a male Yorkie (Twister) who was literally 1 month from turning 20 when he passed. After a couple of years of grieving, I got a female Yorkie (Mallory). Twisters was a "mama's boy" but Mallory was the baby in the family and boy did she take advantage of that. But, in 2018, I became even closer to her as she somehow detected I was having a heart attack while I was asleep and she continued to bark as if hurt, which woke me and that's when I realized I was in trouble and sought medical attention. About three weeks ago, I got another female chocolate Yorkie (Piper) and I can tell she's a sweetheart two. She is almost 3 months and full of energy. Right now, Mallory is still adjusting to Piper's energy. I should add, that Mallory just turned 11. But, they have their loving moments and I know they will draw closer as Piper calms down. I will definitely subscribe to your channel as I LOVE everything Yorkie. Mallory and Piper are barkers, but they both seem to be very friendly to others.
This was so interesting! I’ve had 4 Yorkies so far! 3 of them already passed away. Those 3 Yorkies were exactly how you described them. A few months ago I decided to get another Yorkie (4th one) and I was sure she would behave like my other Yorkies but she is completely different. She loves other dogs, she rarely barks, we managed to get her 90% house trained in 2 months… she is just sooo different!
Sophia, I am debating whether to put my Yorky down (he was born in 2005). He has lost his eyesight and most of his earing. With all the Yorkies u have owned, did any lose its eyesight (I am wondering if it's a common trait), and did u have to put any down? Thanks
@@samantha1054 Hi there, if your Yorkshire terrier is still is healthy other than the eyesight in the hearing, he could definitely still be enjoying his life. I think that when the time is right to put your dog down, it’s not usually a debate, you just firmly know that it’s the right thing to do. I hope you don’t mind my advice but I don’t think it’s the time for you, otherwise he would feel really sure about it. Sending you positive thoughts, and so glad to know that there are such caring owners like you out there.
I just lost my yorkie a month ago, and watching this reminds me of her.. i miss her so much. I have another dog, but she was just so different.. It's like she had her own personality.. i will always love her. Her name was mini because she was mini sized ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss. 17 years is a long time to grow attached and be the best of friends. 💔🌈 I am so glad to hear that you have a baby to love ( and to love you right back ) 💕💕
My yorkie lived for 16 wonderful years. She was very easy to potty train. She would not go in the house, even if she stayed home by herself for an entire work day. She was very smart and would wait for us to be home before she had anything to eat or drink because she knew that eating and drinking would make her go to the bathroom. Only on her last 6 months she started to have accidents. One thing my yorkie had was a luxating patella. She had corrective surgery when she was about a year old and never had problems later on. I love the breed and miss having my girl around. Someday I will have another one as they are wonderful and loving companions.
You are exactly on point ! Especially the cons ! The barking is nuts and I learned the hard way not combing my yorkie once a day . She had to get all her hair shaved off , I felt so bad for her so now I make sure every single day I comb her . With that being said thank god for the pros ! It makes it off so worth it ! ♥️
This happened to me as well when I first got my Yorky. I did not brush them for a long time and then when I took him in for grooming they shaved him. It was awful.
Thank you I just got a yorkie pup and I love her and I actually knew nothing about her just that she needed a home so I really didn’t like the situation she was in so I bought her anyway, so thank God your here to help me!
I enjoyed your video. I can tell you are an experienced Yorkie owner because everything you covered is spot on. They are tiny companions with an oversized personality. They are the best entertainment you will ever invest in. They are very loving and love to cuddle and sit on your lap. When they are young there is nothing more they would like to do than play. They would rather play than eat.. As they age, like humans they settle down. Yes they like to bark and no they are not afraid of anything no matter how big it is. Always keep them on a leash around other dogs because they will not hesitate to attack a rotweiller or pit bull. As you mentioned, they are extremely social. They will come up to anyone and seek love and attention. I would not consider that a con but some folks are not animal lovers and do not want a dog around that tries to jump into their lap or scratch their leg for attention. My Yorkies always did this with visitors. Some liked it and other visitors did not. You will never find another dog breed with as much personality as a Yorkie. Yorkies Rule.
I’m so glad that you enjoyed the video and I really appreciate your kind words. I agree, Yorkshire terriers are wonderful companions and yes… Keeping them on a leash and a close one at that is very important. I’ve heard of many accidents with small dogs. to me, there’s nothing better than a Yorkshire terrier! I simply bring up the cons so that people that would not like those habits. Do not get a Yorkie and then give it up. I want them to have the most wonderful lives ever!
You’re spot in this video. My Yorkie is a mini monster with training and barking. We had to get rid of all carpets and rugs to get an easily cleaned surface. She’s still the love of my life though. I have strict boundaries with humans but Olive gets away with blue murder. I’ve no idea why but … she makes me so happy xx
Thank you Megan for this very informative video. I am a senior woman living on my own in a studio apartment. I am thinking very seriously about having a 4 mo old Yorkie. I think he would work for me as i want / need to get outside and walk. I am also lonely and I think he would be an excellent companion. But i am worried about the barking . I have until tomorrow (may 30) to decide . Wish me luck ❤
Hi there, I think with one Yorkshire terrier you will be fine with the barking. For reference, my dogs do not do much of their barking inside my apartment. The only time that they would bark is if somebody knocks on the door or right when someone comes in. From day-to-day inside the apartment they are actually quite quiet. They do sometimes bark when they see other dogs outside, actually mine in particular, always bark, but when I only had one, he actually didn’t do this as much. I think you’ll be OK and you’ll have a wonderful companion.❤️
Penny can. I never thought of calling it that. In my case, I was able to train my late Yorkie with an Empty RockStar Can filled with about 20 pennies. Every time he barked, I would shake it. Took a few days. He lived to 18 and rarely did he bark.
Great video. Difficult potty training and character impressions were spot one with our 2 yorkies. They just flunked out of doggy kindergarten for not (scared) interacting with other dogs. But on walks they are very friendly. Working on more/better socialization. Had cats before because of wife allergy (cat was adopted away) but Yorkies are not a problem. Keep up the videos!
Yorkies don't have an undercoat, in other words they are hypoallergenic :) I've had five yorkies and I agree 100% with the barking and being territorial. My yorkies are so loving, but oh boy they are strong in character and they are not shy to show it!!
Well I may be biased since I have a Yorkie Maltese mix but some of these rang true for me and others not. He definitely is very barky with anyyyy little noise like the Ring going off or someone outside talking however he is the most friendly little guy with all people, kids and dogs he meets. He is 100% more on the submissive side when it comes to fights (other than the cat!!! ). He is extremely clingy and even if you move an inch he hops up and is ready to go. I’d say training is an absolute must with any dog especially with little dogs since people seem to forget that because they are little. I groom him myself and it is A CON since most yorkies aren’t the best for grooming! However I’d love to see a video on having both male and female yorkies in the house as I hope to add to my pack within a few years and I’d loveee to have a little girl but hesitant about dominating or humping (he’s neutered but I’d like for him to have a sister not a girlfriend 🤣)
Your puppy sounds so cute:). I agree with so many of those things. I have lots of videos in my yorkie playlist that talk about my yorkies if you'd like to know about make and female yorkies living in the same house:)
Meghan, I had questioned the need to bathe a York's weekly. You are Right. I have since received advise concurring with you. My apology for questioning your advise. I stand corrected. Keep loving those Yorkies!!! ❤
Oh my goodness, please don’t ever feel bad about asking a question. That’s some thing that all of us can do, respectfully and kindly just as you did. And truthfully, for the answer to most questions it’s always… It depends. It depends on the environment, the shampoo, the dog… Basically everything. Thank you so much for your beautiful comment, but you never need to apologize for asking questions. It’s a very healthy thing to do in life.
My Yorkie Rudi (11 months) is such a Mr.Friendly He is like "every dog is my best friend" even when that dog just ran over him :'( But he is an exception, and its flattering to hear people compliment about his friendliness wherever we go A person from my agility training class even said that he was the most friendly yorkie she had ever met He did go to puppy class and first level obedience class, where he had to do various command when he was around other dogs, and stayed quiet, so I guess he is used to that from a young age. But I do think this is also a personality thing, as I see many small dogs who loves to bark at every single dog passing by My friend has a very small Poodle, and her favorite pastime is to sit on the balcony and bark and every dog walking downstair
I own a yorkie and just love the breed. You are totally right about being a top dog. My grandson brought his German shepherd puppy to my house for me to see and I had to actually grab my little 4 lb , and he’s still a puppy too, puppy because he was going to attack this German shepherd. Talk about he doesn’t want another animal in his house.
This video was helpful. I decided that a Yorkie would not be a good fit with my household. I have 2 fifty pound dogs. I think I should just keep to the 2 I have. Thanks for the info.
I have a Yorkie and have had him for over a year now and I agree with everything you said but also wanted to add that surprisingly my Yorkie and pitbull (both males) get along great and play constantly when they are together! He barks at everything and when one of my kids cry he cries with them even louder. He is always by my side, and follows me around constantly. I cannot even go into the bathroom without him barging in the exact second the bathroom door closes 😅 Oh and I am so glad I watched your video because he STILL has too many "accidents" in the house and I didn't even know that they were this hard to train to potty outside 😬
I have been sitting for a neighbor's morkie(maltese/yorkie) when they are away. I fell in love with her and get depressed when I have to give her back. This inspired me to get my own yorkie, coming home soon. They have a perfect balance of sweet and feisty. Yup, no hair and not destructive as far as I can tell.
They are so wonderful, and I’m not complaining about the breed… But I just think it’s important for people to know the ins and outs . Because a lot of people don’t research and they get a dog not knowing the pros and cons. Thank you so much for taking the time to say hello and to comment.
I have a Yorky he is almost 6 months old. His name is pistol and I love this little guy with everything in me and he loves me. He does great on potty training. He does great on not barking. I just love him so much he is the best dog I have ever had, he is my baby for real
Megan my Yorkie was born in 2005. He has lost his eyesight and some hearing and I am debating whether to put him down. It is a hard decision to make, but he has been a great companion, highly intelligent, with almost human (traits). The end days come too quickly and are all too emotional. I Highly recommend this breed, as long as u lead, and don't let them lead:).
I’m on my third Yorkie, Marley Grace ❤️ She was my heart saver when I lost my first Yorkie, Fergie at 16 😢 then her first born Son Bailey Boy! 😢 This little girl is my life, I think I learned a couple things about Yorkies wouldn’t have her different in anyway ❤❤❤ she’s the combo of all three!
great video had two yorkies Cali and Bentley had to put them both down Cali was my dog she gave me so much love lived 14 years I,m 68 cried for weeks still grieving. She was the boss great watch dog , your right on the money on what you know about yorkies.
Everything you’ve said is true!! They’re the best. My Poupoune lived to 15. She was the boss in the house. It’s only been 2 weeks and it has been very hard without her with us.
Thank you so much for sharing!!! I Needed to hear this! I’ve felt like a failure in one important area! My Noah is 13 and STILL marks. I’ve tried everything through the years…Nothing helped. He is a true Houdini getting out of diapers and belly bans. I’ve tried many different training methods with no luck. He is Great in most other areas, we have come a long way. He is socialized I’m happy to say. He knows to leave any children alone. He’s never been a fan of children. He obeys most commands unless he’s in a mood. 😂 I LOVED when you said….we live in their world Amen & Amen!!! I call Noah my 4 lb Napoleon. I can’t THANK YOU ENOUGH ❤❤❤ MY Noah is in stage 1 renal failure. 😢 He is on a special diet now. When his time does come to pass on I will no longer carry the guilt of letting him down and can focus on all the progress he’s made, we’ve made.
Sandra, you are an amazing mom, I'm sure. I have a "God dog" Yorkie that came to live with us after her mommy passed. She is 13 now and has made great progress but still isn't 100% potty trained. Her mommy (my BFF) used to lament about not being able to train her but then she joined some Yorkie groups online and learned they are notoriously hard to potty train most of the time. Some NEVER train to use the pad or go outside. There are exceptions, of course, but as a rule EVERYONE is frustrated over their little ones not using the pad or going outside when they are walked. You are not alone! I know your little Sweetie appreciates the love you shared and will be waiting for you at the bridge when the time comes.
My senior husband and I just surprizingly acquired a seven month old yorkie (possible) mix. Wow, our world has been rocked and turned upside down. We have an elderly Jack Russel that is tolerating her. So glad I found your videos, they are calming me down and Brandy seems to like also. Help! We thought we wanted another small dog before Chelsea passes, but we honestly did not know of this temperament. She is a sweetheart and kisses me awake, but then she is everywhere all at once and I can’t catch her. We’ve had her two days 😮
I'm sure it will get much better. Two days is really nothing. Imagine how anxious and stressed out she must be? A new home, new humans and a dog that is not used to her. Just be gentle and patient and work with her❤️❤️❤️🙏
I used to have a little teacup Yorkie girl her named was Gabby. She used to LOVE wearing dresses, hair /dog jewelry accessories ,spa days(Groomer)& ride in her stroller. She was my best friend and my service dog. I have seizures, learning disability ,and short memory loss . Gabby was the only thing that really soothe my nerves had less to none seizures. Now, Gabby in heaven with my grandma.
I want to thank you so much for your advice. The first video of yours we watched was the one with potty issues. It made a huge difference fir us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Someone abandoned a senior intact blonde male Yorkie and he's awesome. I'm a big dog person but I feel really lucky to have ended up with the little dude. Great companion.
You are awesome:). Thank you for giving this guy a home ❤️❤️❤️. What is his name, and how old do you think he is? It breaks my heart that people abandon dogs. That is why I made this video, to really lay out the pros and cons so people can make an educated decision.
I have one Yorkie and one Yorkiepoo who is a half brother! I love them to death and want to say there are so many pros and there aren’t many cons! They are so intelligent and understand anything that I tell them and granted they do control the household but I wouldn’t have it any other way!❤️❤️
This is such a great learning tool! Thank you so much. I am falling in love with Yorkies but I have to go into owner with eyes open before pulling the trigger in a purchase. Just starting to research and you are an amazing source!
I have had two Yorkies. The first one was purchased from a pet store as a puppy. She was not hard to potty train. She always thought she was a BIG dog. She would bark at other dogs, the postman and newcomers. She was so smart and was not allowed in the living room. If we were sitting in the living room entertaining she would grab her ball and roll it into the room, retrieve it and then do it again and again. Each time she never went completely out of the room so that after quite a few ball rolls and retrievable she would eventually be in the living room with you. We had her for 16 years. Our second Yorkie was a rescue dog and she was five when we got her. She was perfectly trained, knew commands and rarely barked. She must have had a previous female owner because she loved females over males. We also had her for 16 years. We are presently dogless but if I were to ever get another dog it would be a Yorkie. ❤️
My saying has always been “this is Molly’s world, I’m just living in it” My Yorkie is 9, and she’s absolutely everything you said. She is my sidekick, my best girl. I just got a Parti Puppy. She’s a beautiful add on. I love them both so much.
I also a Yorkie and I have never had a problem in training her she is very good about going outside or letting me know she has to go I would never have another breed only another Yorkie and her temperaments very good she doesn't bark a lot only to let me know there's someone at the door or someone outside
Omgoodness, I had three labs before I got my yorkies. My living in a Condo changed that… I’ve had 3 Labrador retrievers and now I’m on my 3rd., Yorkie! ❤
Terrific video. I’m surprised how different my teacup male’s personality (passed last years) is from my new puppy that is a standard size female. But both have trademark Yorkie traits. I fall in love with a yorkie in 5 minutes, such a nice breed.
Hi Scott, I am so extremely sorry for your loss. It is the most painful thing to lose are Yorkshire terrier companions as they are the most amazing little creatures and all that they do is love us and want to stay by your side through thick and thin. Sending you my thoughts, one day at a time.
I have had the privilege of caring for 9 Yorkies. They are an absolute joy to have around. Having said that, I agree with almost all of your pros and cons. Grooming is only an issue if you keep their hair long. My babies preferred short hair, especially in the summer, because it gives them more freedom to run and play. The other con I have a real issue with is their 'territorial and pick fights'; none of mine have ever displayed any of those characters. And finally there is one con that you did not mention and it's a very expensive one, you did elude to it though. They have major issues with their teeth which means yearly cleaning (which runs into the $1000s) and probable tooth removal (extra $$$).
Megan! We have 2. They completely steal hearts! Ours love to play vigorously with each other. With grooming: In our opinion, letting Yorkies’ hair get long makes them look a bit like slobs. Great video! 💛
Hi Glen, that is so wonderful that the clap stops their barking. It doesn’t work for my dogs, but I have a feeling it would probably work for most! I prefer short hair as well, but I have seen some great looking, long-haired Yorkshire terriers. it all depends on how someone grooms them, and trims the hair.
I have 3 Yorkies and the oldest one is turning 19 this year. He is super smart and well behaved, only bark once or twice if someone is outside our door and almost never make any accidents after a year old. But the other two girls which both 2 years old, it’s almost impossible to potty train them, they know where to go but sometimes just wanna be naughty. But good thing they don’t bark as well, only when mail man is outside. By the way, I think raw diet do make them healthier and live longer, I can never imagine life without any Yorkie.
Hi Evie:). Wow! You have taken awesome care of your yorkie to have a 19 year old. That is so awesome! Isn't it funy how some of them can be so naught sometimes? Where is their favorite place to sneak off to be naughty? Lola sneaks off to the rug. LOL:)
I have a 10 months Yorkie girl ( my first one) and she is not a barker at all. . only because I have a poodle too who is a barker and is teaching her. My Yorkie grew up the first 6 months with a pitbull and loves ALL the dogs. All the rest is true. They run the house, are super fierce, and are stubborn. Love them.
Thank you for sharing such an informative video. I have wanted a Yorkie for many years, but my schedule prevented. One of the blessings of Covid is I now work from home so I won’t have to leave her home for long periods of time. My husband plans to gift him/her for my birthday. I’m not sure which is better male or female. Your dogs are beautiful!
Hi Christine:). Thank you so much. I love it when people say that my videos are calming. It is nice to have something relaxing and calming on in the background sometimes:). Hello to Polly and Rumi ❤️💕❤️💕
I used to have a yorkie and he was so well behaved. One time I was out with my wife and our yorkie Baxter and I had to have a tire repaired on our truck. So I had to take him in to the customer area and he just sat right beside me and my wife the whole time we were there. The man who was the manager said he couldn’t believe how well he was he said that Baxter was better than some of the children that he was had there.
I have been watching all of your videos Megan and have learned so much from you. My Yorkie baby was born last Monday and I’m so excited! She’s not going to be my only dog as we already have a Toy Poodle but she will be my first Yorkie. Can hardly wait! 😊
My Yorkie puppy didn’t like my 3 old poodles and she picked out the most submissive one to bite for absolutely no reason, and She wouldn’t let go. Now as an only dog she is the light of my life. She is so smart. We went to puppy classes and had a trainer come to our house to help over come the terrorist part of Yorkies. She now trains everyone to do what she wants, when she wants it. She rules the house and we love her, she is our baby.
We own three yorkies…same mom and dad but three different litters. Three different personalities. The oldest we got was not house broke at 4 years old. We had him neutered and it helps but he will still occasionally mark. He also despises delivery drivers and random people and will bite. He loves to crawl under the covers and is very protective of me. If he gets to wound up he will bite and he gets crated for that. We work really hard to keep his “protective “ behavior under control. We adopted him at 4 years old so I’m not sure what he was like before. We do love him…his name is Reacher. My middle is named M.E. (Emmie) she loves everyone and is great to take to stores as she is very sociable. She growls at everyone that comes near me at home but doesn’t bite. She doesn’t have this when we are out. The baby is two and her name is Liberty. She’s my son’s dog and rides with him in his 18 wheeler. She’s been with him in the truck since she was eight weeks old. She is a big hit with everyone on the road. Yorkies are loyal, playful, happy dogs…we ❤ ours!
Spot on for most of the information. Disagree about grooming. Yes they need to be brushed/combed daily or every other day. I have always bathed mine every two weeks without issue. And I call mine Yorkshire terrors simply because they are but so loving also. And they are so gosh darn Cute!🤗💋
@@MeganGraham All 3 of my Yorkies had dry skin. Bathing them every other week kept them clean and helped to keep their skin from becoming overly dry. Yes daily brushing/combing is important. Matted hair continues to snarl pulling on their thin skin.
Very smart. Maxwell answers the phone. Howls haROO. If he has a digestive issue at night, he gets up and goes to the back corner if the shower. Lizzie prefers a peepad. Hates wet grass/rules the roost. Both love Frisbee. They stand and bark at hubby at 2:30 in the afternoon until he goes for the frisbee.
My 15 year old yorkie passed away in April, and watching this back then is why I decided to get another Yorkie friend named Mr Crowley. He's a little 4lb Red Yorkie, and he'll be 8 months old next week ^_^
Some people get upset about the cons...I don't mind them at all...but I always share them in case someone would be upset about these traits. They are such special babies that deserve a permanent home.❤️❤️❤️
Try filling an empty can with pennies and shaking it when they bark and saying no. Eventually they will dislike it so much you can just show them the can.

So true ,I had three Yorkie lost my second girl this year need to find a yorkie to love.
What you said about your yorkie so true with lots of love.
I have just got a tiny girl
You just described my male Yorkie to a tee except for other dogs. He likes dogs his size. He’s a rescue.
Owners couldn’t keep him.
Six years old. Have had him 2 1/2 years. Love him to the moon and back!
My Yorkie never goes potty inside the house and he doesn't bark at all. However, even in his older age (9 years) he still absolutely loves to play. I mean, you cannot play enough with him. He's also extremely sweet and wicked smart. Something about him just completes my heart. A great companion and a best friend.
He sounds wonderful!
😂😂😂😂
I don't live with a Yorkie but I'm thinking of someday soon...they are fierce and adorable....
I had a Yorkie. They are smart. She learned to not bark or potty in Apartment. Also ignored other dogs. Oh how I miss her.
My yorkie was a spry girl up until 16 when she passed.
I think that grooming is not really a con, because those 10 minutes are always special! ♥😘
That is a fantastic way to look at it. I agree, but wanted to present it as a con, because there are so many people that may feel differently, and it would be too much work for them:)
Me too I see it like that. It's such a beautiful moment that solidifies the bond 🥰🥰
definitely is a con if they growl and snap at you for trying to brush.. my pup is only 5 months old but for whatever reason gets aggressive with the brush 😬😓
@@animeluver22113 maybe this brush hurt him?
@@Ro-wu7lw no she is just naturally fiesty she snaps when she doesn't want something 😅 but as bossy as she is she is still a very sweet and loving dog
I love them, but do want to discourage people who will not keep them. I don't want them to end up in a shelter.
@@MeganGraham 😢
I sure wish I could get mine fixed too!
Subscribed.
So true
Wash her face and brush her teeth and brush her every morning. It’s a must. Love my Poppi. Everything you said was so true.
Such a caring mama:) It means so much to me when I hear how kind you guys are to your babies. Treating them the way they deserve:) ❤❤
I love her.
Happy Thanksgiving! She sounds wonderful
All very true:)
I get my first girlie and dog in general this March when she turns 7 weeks, I’m so excited
Great info!
OMG! Your dog is a true hero:). That is such a beautiful story!
Isn't it amazing how different they all are? All of mine have been so unique as well:)

❤️
@@MeganGraham Sounds exactly like my lil sweet girl!
THERE ARE NO CONS WITH OUR BEAUTIFUL YORKSHIRES!!!!!! LOVE IS LOVE MEGAN
Hi, nice all caps.... there are cons. I bring them up so that people who would not love them unconditionally do not buy them. THANKS
Just got my Yorkie puppy and so far everything you said is true, now I do own a Husky they play so much and love each other ❤
SO sweet
I had 3 as well. Loved them dearly! And miss them since they have all gone to the Rainbow Bridge❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am so sorry that they have all crossed over the rainbow bridge. It is so very hard:(
You are exactly on point !
❤
Thank you I just got a yorkie pup and I love her and I actually knew nothing about her just that she needed a home so I really didn’t like the situation she was in so I bought her anyway, so thank God your here to help me!
Thank you!
❤️❤️❤️
100 percent you nailed it, everything you said has happened to me with my Yorkie
Awesome and thank you!
I'm thinking about getting a Yorkie next summer. This has been very helpful.
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, that was so nice of you!
Just got a Yorkshire Terrier and love him
Congratulations! They are the best!
Adding a lil fire hydrant to middle of large pad made a huge difference! We live in an RV and had to keep them in with crocodiles in Florida.
That’s a great idea! We use a small, orange plastic cone. We are currently traveling full time in our rv❤️❤️
Hi there,
I think with one Yorkshire terrier you will be fine with the barking.
It works so well!
🖤
I agree with you totally. My first Yorkie. I wish, I knew about your channel before I bought my Yorkie. Love him but a lot of work.
Thank you so much. They are, but also so worth it.
Yorkies don't have an undercoat, in other words they are hypoallergenic :) I've had five yorkies and I agree 100% with the barking and being territorial. My yorkies are so loving, but oh boy they are strong in character and they are not shy to show it!!
People can still be allergic, although it’s rare.
Thank you for sharing ❤ my York terrier was born May 2024. I’m so in love 🥰
My pleasure!
Yes you hit all of the good and bad things! Mine gets really carsick and it makes me feel so bad. Any suggestions?

So glad I came across your video! I'm on my way to retrieve my Yorkie and this was so helpful! Thank you for posting🙂
Yay!!
My Yorkie Rudi (11 months) is such a Mr.Friendly
He is like "every dog is my best friend" even when that dog just ran over him :'(
But he is an exception, and its flattering to hear people compliment about his friendliness wherever we go
A person from my agility training class even said that he was the most friendly yorkie she had ever met
He did go to puppy class and first level obedience class, where he had to do various command when he was around other dogs, and stayed quiet, so I guess he is used to that from a young age.
But I do think this is also a personality thing, as I see many small dogs who loves to bark at every single dog passing by
My friend has a very small Poodle, and her favorite pastime is to sit on the balcony and bark and every dog walking downstair
There is always the exception and I’m so glad that you have such an awesome puppy. Sounds like a super super great example of the breed :-)
You described perfectly, My Yorkie ( 10 months old) is Ms. Friendly, exactly as you describe and doesnt back. My poodle is a super barker
They think they are big!
Mine do the same with the bathroom and watch the door til I'm done, even for a shower. I think they know its a vulnerable time.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have been sitting for a neighbor's morkie(maltese/yorkie) when they are away. I fell in love with her and get depressed when I have to give her back. This inspired me to get my own yorkie, coming home soon. They have a perfect balance of sweet and feisty. Yup, no hair and not destructive as far as I can tell.
ha ha "yorkshire terrorists", agreed, the one I watch does not like other dogs or small kids. She will protest.
I am so excited for you! Thank you for taking the time to leave this comment. Megan
Your video is bang on! All the pros and cons. Mine are almost 5 and your absolutely right, with potty training..
He sounds terrific:)
I have five now. They are so funny and make great little companions.
So cute! They really do!
It is so hard when our best friends age:(

She sounds like such a sweet little baby. I am so sorry for your loss, that must be so difficult for you. I am sending you my thoughts today Hannah ❤️
I want to thank you so much for your advice. The first video of yours we watched was the one with potty issues. It made a huge difference fir us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You are so welcome!
They are so intelligent and understand anything that I tell them and granted they do control the household but I wouldn’t have it any other way!❤️❤️
They sound wonderful!
This is such a great learning tool! Thank you so much. I am falling in love with Yorkies but I have to go into owner with eyes open before pulling the trigger in a purchase. Just starting to research and you are an amazing source!
I am so glad!
They both sound so sweet!
My saying has always been “this is Molly’s world, I’m just living in it”
My Yorkie is 9, and she’s absolutely everything you said. She is my sidekick, my best girl. I just got a Parti Puppy. She’s a beautiful add on. I love them both so much.
Haha, I love that!
Yes. I have a Morkie and she barks a lot when outside. She makes weird noises. She’s all of what you said.
she sounds so cute!
I also a Yorkie and I have never had a problem in training her she is very good about going outside or letting me know she has to go I would never have another breed only another Yorkie and her temperaments very good she doesn't bark a lot only to let me know there's someone at the door or someone outside
Awesome
I have an adorable almost 2 yr old female Yorkie. She is the love of our lives.
No cons❤
with her.
Wonderful ❤️❤️❤️
Omgoodness, I had three labs before I got my yorkies. My living in a Condo changed that… I’ve had 3 Labrador retrievers and now I’m on my 3rd., Yorkie! ❤
I love my yorkies:)
Dont know if i am up for crazy barking and difficult house training. I do love the breed.
It is a great breed, but may not be right for you❤️
Terrific video.
I’m surprised how different my teacup male’s personality (passed last years) is from my new puppy that is a standard size female. But both have trademark Yorkie traits. I fall in love with a yorkie in 5 minutes, such a nice breed.
Thank you so much. I hope to deter anyone who would be mad about the cons (so that all yorkies may have a forever home:)
I’ve had three and they are wonderful!
Yes:)
I also have three little terrors. My mum calls them the posse. 😅 ❤
So cute!
I just lost my Yorkie. He was 18. Best dog that I ever had. I miss him.
True. Ijust mentioned some of the cons. Great point.
Megan!
Spot on advice! Had 9 yorks, luv em so much. Very worth all the training time. Thanks!
Thank you!
Love them.
cute:)
Thank you for sharing your video on Yorkies. I have a 4 yo. She rules the roost. She’s my little companion. I hope you have more videos on Yorkies.
My pleasure! They are awesome (and bossy) little creatures
Your dogs are beautiful!
wonderful!
I just adore your videos! Such a calming time spending, and yes! Everything you mentioned is absolutely right with my 2 Yorkies Polly and Rumi.
What a good boy!
I have been watching all of your videos Megan and have learned so much from you. My Yorkie baby was born last Monday and I’m so excited! She’s not going to be my only dog as we already have a Toy Poodle but she will be my first Yorkie. Can hardly wait! 😊
Congratulations! That is so exciting!
They all sound like they have such big personalities! Please give all the puppies a kiss from me! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Spot on for most of the information. Disagree about grooming. Yes they need to be brushed/combed daily or every other day. I have always bathed mine every two weeks without issue. And I call mine Yorkshire terrors simply because they are but so loving also. And they are so gosh darn Cute!🤗💋
What part about grooming do you disagree with?
@@MeganGraham All 3 of my Yorkies had dry skin. Bathing them every other week kept them clean and helped to keep their skin from becoming overly dry. Yes daily brushing/combing is important. Matted hair continues to snarl pulling on their thin skin.
I like the video I have a 5 year old yorkie he is my confidant very protective. Three and lovable. Wouldn't take anything for him
I agree, they are so lovable!
Very smart. Maxwell answers the phone. Howls haROO. If he has a digestive issue at night, he gets up and goes to the back corner if the shower. Lizzie prefers a peepad. Hates wet grass/rules the roost. Both love Frisbee. They stand and bark at hubby at 2:30 in the afternoon until he goes for the frisbee.
haha:)❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Will be getting one next week hope I can do it right with her
I’m sure you can. It looks like you’re doing your research to do your absolute best!
My 15 year old yorkie passed away in April, and watching this back then is why I decided to get another Yorkie friend named Mr Crowley. He's a little 4lb Red Yorkie, and he'll be 8 months old next week ^_^
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this. I am so glad that my video brought you together with Mr. Crowley. I ❤️❤️ his name!
Ive had one for many years (still do) and everything ypu stated rings true in my case.....
Some people get upset about the cons...I don't mind them at all...but I always share them in case someone would be upset about these traits. They are such special babies that deserve a permanent home.❤️❤️❤️
Great video my yorkie puppy that just turned 1 is awesome spartacus he Is pretty mellow but yes house training hard everything pretty much I agree!
House training is sooooo hard
Your info is very beneficial and appreciated. Thanks
Thank you:)
Thanks good to know🤗 I'm looking at which breed I want this helps🤭
Thank you
This was super helpful! I'm looking into Yorkies but the carpet I can't change and that makes me nervous
That sounds like a difficult situation.
I like that you mention the barking issues. Would like to know if there is anything that I can do to stop the barking when someone comes to the door.
Try filling an empty can with pennies and shaking it when they bark and saying no. Eventually they will dislike it so much you can just show them the can.
