- Hello everyone:) This video is yorkie haircut, and it is me grooming Lola at home. I am by no means an expert at yorkie grooming. I have been practicing at home, because I believe that practice makes perfect. If I just get 1 percent better every time I do it, within a year or two, I think I will be really good at it.
I enjoy watching Suzanne at Grande Style Grooming on TH-cam for inspiration, and know that eventually I will be able to do a great looking groom for my yorkshire terriers even though I am very slow and a bit awkward right now. Getting good at anything requires allowing yourself to be a beginner.

We groom our little girl ourselves since we got her @ 9months old. My other Yorkies were groomed by a professional but after a bad experience, I took TH-cam lessons😉

I groom my yorkie Teddy all the time. I found he used to come home stressed after being at the groomers so I decided to start doing it myself. As you say practice makes perfect and I'm now pretty comfortable grooming him and he looks pretty good when I'm done! You did a lively job as well! Thanks for the video 💚
That is so awesome. Mine used to get extremely stressed from going to the groomers, and they would always throw up a day or two later. It just wasn't worth it.
I just got two Yorkies one week ago. They are like little angels. I plan to do my own grooming so this will be very helpful. Thank you.

Lola is such a cutie 🥰. I have 2 border terriers and they need hand stripped, it’s a loooooong process. One thing I found helpful was to put a mini floor mat under the dogs because on a surface like a table top they feel like they can’t grip it and move around more as a result.

This is AWESOME!!! My Daughter is a professional groomer and has 2 Yorkies herself (My GrandBabies) and I let her groom my 2 Yorkies (Daisy, Chocolate female, 7 months @ 4 pounds, and Loki, Parti male, 4 months @ 5 1/2 pounds) She told me that I needed to wait to cut Loki’s hair until he was 6 months old to let all the puppy hair grow out, so that’s what I’m doing… Daisy’s hair is thin and silky and I’m letting it grow long… Loki’s hair is thicker but doesn’t get tangled much because you taught me to comb and brush them everyday or every other day… My Daughter trims their eyes, paw pads and rear end for me… I grind their nails and bathe both them with the Espana Silk Shampoo, Conditioner and I have their Detangler Spray that you had mentioned in your previous videos!!! I absolutely LOVE their products and can’t “Thank You” enough for sharing everything with us!!! Love your channel!!!

My yorkie is 1 yrs old. Has been professional groomed once. He will be going to be groomed on Wednesday. Would love to be able to clean him up a little on my own. Thanks.
You're welcome:). Even though I am a hair colorist by trade, grooming is challenging. I find it really helpful to watch Suzanne from Grande Style Grooming though. Anything that we keep doing, will eventually get easier and better. I LOVE using the clippers. It is so satisfying. My dogs are so good too. They just stand there which is amazing:)

I take my dogs to the groomer but it's nice to be able to groom them myself. It's good that Lola is comfortable with you grooming her that's half the battle. It would be nice to show Lola after your groom and after your groomer to show comparison.
Sorry I didn't take any photos of the grooming I did:). It was a really busy week with work, youtube and travel so just trying to fit it all in:)
I watched tons of grooming yorkie videos and got my yorkie at 8 weeks old she is now 6 1/2 months and I have always done all her grooming.
That is great. Are you happy with the results?
@@MeganGraham yes very. Once you get the hang of it and find a style you like it gets easier for both of us. I keep her top knot long, round her face keep the leg hair long and the body shorter. I think she looks really cute.

Thanks so much for this video, it's very helpful! I just got my new Yorkie last week, and where I live there is no groomer so I would like to know, when should I give my Yorkie her first haircut?
As soon as you feel like your dog's hair is too long. Its a personal preference. I keep mine cut shorter, but I have a friend that keeps her yorkie's hair longer.
I would wait a while and let your yorkie settle in. Too many changes for a new baby.

I just got my grooming puppy kit- I’ve never groomed before so, gonna try next few days and Brody is 4.5months old yorkie mix
It is a great habit to start now.
@@MeganGraham I actually did it last week and he let me do it without an issues- so proud of him and everyone said I did a good job.. I did eyes one night and then next day touch up and then full grooming- he was giving me kisses like saying thank you while I was doing it- was so sweet 💚

I'm an old hair stylist also. I taught myself to cut my dogs, but I now have a Yorkie that is almost 2 and I cut his hair.. You can cut their hair just as well than spending $200 and over for shears and thinning shears, but the clippers would be worth the money. What clippers are you using, this didn't say.

I have cut all my Yorkies. I had a horrible experience with a groomer with one of my previous yorkies Ria. They cut her ear. And it put me off taking them to anyone. I trained on her and cut her for the rest of her life. So I can cut Ruby and Rosie quickly and efficiently. Plus my Husband prefers the girls shorter. Plus we live in the country so it makes it easier for walking them once the Autumn and Winter comes around.

I don't have the hair around their eyes trimmed, I just pull it back.

I would definitely pick up the dog that I often recommend recommend on training your puppy. It’s called the art of raising a puppy.
I talk to Brody like that and compliment him on his sexy paws and how much love him and just in general, he’s my best friend and my kid

When do u take your yorkie for there first groom at pet shop?
I take them to a groomer.
Your Yorkie is so cooperative . I try over and over to groom my baby but she only let's me bathe her without a struggle. When I try to clean her eyes she tries to bite ,not hard but she won't stay still and she tries to take the wipe out of my hand. I would try to distract her and give her a treat when she stays still for even a minute. But it's a constant struggle to comb or brush her hair because she constantly tries to bite whatever I have in my hands. She will do this and then want to give me kisses so I will stop trying. She's very smart for being only 7 months old. And omg so very picky when it comes to her food. I've spent so much money on dog food that she will eat it one time to please me I guess. But won't eat it again. I have so much dog food I could probably open up a store 🤣🤣🤣. She won't let me cut,trim or brush her at no time. Only bath time she will allow. So I really don't know how to change this behavior 😕. If you have any helpful suggestions I'm ready to try anything. Oh she also will come to me and growl if I'm not paying attention that she pooped. She is used to me cleaning her butt when she poops. She also watches it flush down in the toilet.

I have a bossy puppy too. He is so much better now but they need to know they aren’t the boss by pushing through in a calm assertive way. It will get easier so just keep at it. And she will eat if she gets hungry! They are smart like toddlers and are good at trying to control us. Mine likes to proudly prance into the bathroom for the flush too😂

I’m trying to remember, I feel like I’m still learning so it’s hard to remember I know it was a shorter one for the body and a longer one for the legs and lower part I think it was about a 12 on the legs and a nine on the body but I’m not totally sure. I usually just try different ones until I have the right length.

Do they smell bad? Mine never do. What do they smell like?
@@MeganGraham he smell like outside and smells like he needs to be bathed and I don't want to bathed him everyday.
I bathe him (Leroy) and comb him regularly and the groomer comes over every 2 1/2 months.
