1000 Miles in One Day on the Lifan KPM 200 Motorcycle? - Iron Butt Ride

  • The weather here in the Northeast has given me a window of opportunity to try the "Iron Butt" 1000 mile (in 24 hours) certified ride. I want to do it on the little KPM200, just to show that you can have big adventures on a small bike! I only have 4 days (from the time of this post) to prepare. The KPM only has close to 500 miles on it now.

    The "secret" to Iron Butt rides is to stay on the bike and limit stops. That is, no extended sit down meals. (Don't get too comfortable off the bike!) It's too late to outfit this bike, but the addition of a rear rack to hold a tail bag with snacks, water, and a spare 1-gallon gas can is my suggestion.

    Hey Keith! Very interesting idea! I'm excited to hear what you think of the KPM. Have been considering picking one up for a family member! I've heard people really like them. You will be traveling just south of us in Rochester on Route 20. Good luck! BTW, I would love to pay you to test drive your KPM and Brozz in the spring if you still have them!

      Hi Michael, I love this little bike! The day after I assembled it I took it for a short ride to start breaking it in and got a call from a family member stating he was at his camp in the Adirondacks so I headed off to hang out around a camp fire and cookout. It ended up being a 200 mile round trip and drove it back at night. The little KPM never missed a beat. Its small, light, and surprisingly comfortable. I'm around 200lb and had no problem cruising at highway speeds (55-60). Thanks for the comments, its always good to hear from you!

      @@dualsportjourney Thanks Keith! I think it would be a great bike for my daughter due to its size and 30 inch seat height. Is the build quality as good in person as it looks in pics and videos? Your cold morning cold startup clip where it was covered in frost yet fired right up and purred was great! The guys at Bikes n Beards, aka: SRK Cycles, converted two of these into "inexpensive" scramblers (relative to $14k Ducatis) and had a ton of fun testing their limits and durability. The KPMs performed and held up very well to a ton of abuse! Hope we get a chance to meet someday. I ride my Sportster 1200 around New York for PGR events and would love to beg you for a test ride on the Brozz and Kpm! You have to be the only person with 500 miles of me that has one, nevermind both! Again, thanks for the content, and good luck with this weekend's ride!

      FYI - I am putting the KPM and Brozz up for sale. I want to test a few other China bikes for the channel and (as much as I want to) I can't justify keeping them all... if you are interested in one (or both) email me. They will be priced to sell! DualSportJourney@gmail.com

    Llifan, who makes this bike, also makes a very nice dual sport called the KPX 250.

    If you haven't been on the Interstate with the KPM yet, you'd probably want to put some miles on the Interstate. The stock KPM isn't really up to Interstate riding. Backroads it's great, above 65, it's lacking.

    • @dualsportjourney
      @dualsportjourney  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did try it on a some interstate roads before the trip. During the trip, in most cases I could cruse around 65-68 which I felt comfortable doing. I found hills and direction/strength of wind to be a big factor as well with this small displacement engine.
