Which Touhou game is your favorite?
Touhou 7 because I started with it and I like yuyuko... and got my first 1cc
Also sanae's shots focused are snakes
Touhou 7 is the only one I've also played a bit back in the day. Never managed to 1cc that so good job doing it. Also, didn't really think about that Sanae's focused shots are actually snakes, completely missed it to be fair 😅

What makes Touhou 18 specially fun for newcomers to the series is that the roguelike elements rewards players for every game over by providing cards that allows players to tweak their next playthrough with extra little mechanics that fits the player's playstyle the best.
Sanae is also a great pick for beginners since she allows you to focus on dodging without needing to track enemies. Sakuya is also quite fun once you get used to her gimmick.
Also, glad to see that you enjoyed the song "Ore from the Age of the Gods". Its a very underrated theme for the least popular character among the newcomers.
Agree with everything you said! To both dodge and focus on where the boss is with any character except Sanae is still a bit away from me, but one day I'll dive into the other characters and try it out.
And yes, "Ore from the Age of the Gods" needs more attention for sure. It has been a common staple in my playlist since the game was released and I still get pumped up from hearing it. 😁
I would like to add that the cards are all references to other touhou characters (and all do stuff related to those characters)

About the story, I feel like the story from ingame dialogs always lacks... you can get much more lore from character profiles, spellcard descriptions, etc, but they are "not part of the game".
It's fun to read some of the card descriptions and how they worry that some of them are "out there on the market".

It's like you're on to there. The "story" of Touhou is probably more built up by everything surrounding the games rather than in-game.
I always love playing as Marisa in Touhou games, she fits my hyper aggressive high-risk/high-reward style very well, but I gotta respect a Sanae player
I always privilege raw power and i like to go under bosses to get more damage, so Marisa is my favorite shottype

Touhou reviews always scare me because of misinformed people who don't do much research and confuse the official titles with the fangames, but this was very well written with good information and you're actually pretty good at the game! As a fan for over 10 years, thanks for giving this series a chance.

Generally, in other touhou games, Reimu has an ESPECIALLY small hitbox (a concept Im suprised to not hear you bring up in the video), so she is generally my favorite choice

UM is a mixed bag for me. I like the concept of cards and its pretty new to touhou. This game can get pretty wacky if youre a classic shmup player, such as the odd scoring system. Its still fun to play casually and if you want to experience a not so complicated and hard shmup. The themes are also pretty good. The story is fine, i guess. The extra stage overall is quite similar to DDC, but not much.
I'd say i only recommend this for casual play and beginners. If you want high level survival play, this game's gonna kick your ass lol. I still like it, but not something that would be my favorite.

It's indeed very fun! Since I'm still at a very casual level I haven't played around that much with the characters. Since I'm curious, could you describe in what way they are unbalanced?
In order to balance the game with the card mechanic, most enemies have more health than in previous games and shot types received some buffs as well. Now Reimu's homing shots are more powerful than her needles, Sakuya might be kinda hard to use at the start but it's very powerful and the best against bosses if you want to kill them quick and Sanae's frogs were nerfed compared to LoLK (less frogs per shot), but her overall damage increased a bit as well. As for Marisa, it seems like ZUN forgot to buff her or something. While in the other games she had low range but a lot of damage, in this game she has low range and low damage, making her the hardest character/shot type to beat the game. She's the same Marisa as usual, but as the other characters and enemies received buffs, she was left behind basically

Haha, there for sure is! This series is going at it like the FIFA games. Albeit (in my opinion) with a lot more interesting stuff going on in all installments.

Long fan of touhou here , started since EoSD
It seems a lot of people started at Touhou 6, I guess that's also why the series has mainly stayed true to the structure that game setup. Still haven't played it myself, the furthest back I've played is Touhou 7 (Perfect Cherry Blossom).
