ALL Final Fantasy Games and Their Most Hype non-battle Music

If you like the FF franchise and Video Game Music, this is the best video! All songs in this video belong to Square Enix / Squaresoft. The following users have kindly let me use their footage in this video, thank you all so much! Check out their ...
You're crazy, Palace of Destruction is #1!
Haha, I might be! 😁But I think it's quite close between the 6 best songs in the game, so any ranking of these are arguable.
The best track imo is Secret Green Passage. Whenever I think of Sky 1, it's what instantly comes to mind. Well either that or Whereabouts of Light
Secret Green Passage is great. It's a bit underrated from myself because I rarely think about it, but when I listen to it I highly enjoy it.
In my opinion Ys IV The Dawn of Ys has the best ost of the franchise, but the others are still great too.
It has some really good ones, but I think it was improved upon in many cases in the Celceta remake. The biggest crime commited there is the lack of the Bronze District song (fron the PC engine version) though which is one of my favorite Ys music ever. It's so good!
I prefer visions compared to wandering in the darkness, maybe the latter would work better in mines but visions have eerie qualities to it that would be more suitable for a cave (which strangely enough uses the japanese hirajoshi scale which evokes that japanese mystic-shintoism imagery, but I digress). Anyway, the second track belongs to an overworld/world map theme, its a shame the trilogy never had one
"Visions" is a completely different vibe and the word "eerie" that you use is the perfect use for it. Interesting comment about the Japanese hirajoshi scale as well, I never knew the name for it before. I'm listening to Visions as I'm typing this, and that track also keeps expanding and growing throughout its run. I can see why you like it this much. 👌
Ah, I forgot how bad the non-evo instrumentation is
Ohh, hot take! I really like both versions because of different reasons, but they are very different in style so I can see some people don't liking one of them very much.
I think my favorite track has to be Invincible Strength the super arranged version
Interesting! I think the SAV is my least favorite out of the three versions (OG > EVO > SAV) but all three of them are amazing and very different from each other which I highly enjoy.
personally, while i love a lot of the music from the game and falcom games in general, the mainz mining town theme just hits the it home the best for the crossbell arc, the slow-life theme it depicts is just utter perfection
The Mainz mining town is such a underrated track. I have it in my cozy vgm list for personal use because of the reasons you mentioned. 😍
is this what the original inevitable struggle sounds like lol? i played with the evo soundtrack and it sounds way different since it's less synth focused and instead has a saxophone as the prominent instrument. Tbh I prefer the evo version but this one ain't bad either
Correct! They are very different, but I like them both in different ways. I still think that the original works better in-game, but the saxophone makes it a wonderful remix to listen to now and then for me. 🎷
This is how I felt about Formidable Enemy. Since I'm new to Trails games I thought Arrest The Criminal is gonna be the only boss theme but no, the game put Lloyd 1 on 1 against Wald and I was greeted by this super cool greatness.
Formidable Enemy is also a really good one! Just as you I'm also new to the franchise and it's always a fun time not knowing how the games are "structured" in their music. Especially hearing new battle music you aren't expecting is always a blast. 🔥
Wandering in the Darkness is a waltz no ? The way they walk in Liberl is great as well, though I still prefer Steel Floor Blocking the Way or Looking Up At The Sky
Hehe, maybe it is. I should probably preface all videos by letting everyone know that I'm a complete newbie when it comes to actually speaking about music. But I'm learning! 🧑🎓 "Steel Floor Blocking the Way" is a track I often overlook. It actually goes into something I really like when listening to it for a longer while. "Looking Up At The Sky" is SC, so that's out of scope for this video. It's great nonetheless. :)
You missed Chained echoes! I called octopath 2, sea of stars and chained echoes my modern trilogy of pixel rpg. They are just so good and have an amazing soundtrack.
Ohh, so you're telling me that Chained Echoes is up there as well? I still haven't played the game, but this comment definitely made it jump upwards a few steps in the backlog.
@@Teedyan yes! It’s awesome

The Mine/Cave song has such a nice jazzy groove to it
It has, right? The initial thumbnail text was actually something like "Both jazzy and soothing", but it wasn't eye-drawing enough so I went with other ideas instead.
its not just it sounding cozy but it just sounds typical trials from music even if you have not played older trails games or cold steel if you hear those songs you know its the legend of heroes music
This is a very good point. I've just started Cold Steel 1 and really feel that for many of the songs already. They just feel Trails, but many also have their own Cold Steel twist on them.
Another set of bangers, I don't know what they will do for the music but I hope they keep the same energy, although with the evo versions out there Im a bit curious to see if they'll go with an approach that more closely resembles the energy of the OG or the EVO versions ofthe tracks
And another comment that's GOAT:ed! I'm also curious about the direction. The EVO versions of FC are, quite frankly, already pretty good (which can't be said for 3rd...). So, a new interpretation would be fun for a lot of the music tracks.
inevitable struggle is great and gives a great ambiance, but I have to admit I will always be partial to the goosebumps and thrills that were the combo of "Get Over the Barrier - Roaring Version" (or even better, the Evolution version of that track) with the car chase scene during the final chapter of the game.
There seems to be such a nice split between the camps of "Inevitable Struggle" or one of the "Get Over the Barrier" tracks. The most beautiful thing though, is that both camps enjoy both, it's just that one of the tracks wins by a small margin for most people. The car chase scene was great. 🚙
The second track actually gave me goosebumps =D
Aw yeaaahh, I'm living for comments like these! That's exactly what I want to hear, thank you for taking your time to comment. 😁
Are you hyped about the upcoming remake? How do you think they will handle the music?
I've been playing through the pixel remaster games in Japanese to practice my reading. I've now played 1-5 and have just finished FFV yesterday, and I just happened to find this video. Really cool to see others practice their Japanese by playing Final Fantasy!
Most of the games are really good for this, aren't they? I had some issues with FFIV that a lot of the language used there felt extremely specific and a lot of the words in that game I've never seen before (or afterwards). In FFV I think most of the dialogue is really good for studying as it feels more "real". Did you feel this as well? And thanks for finding and commenting! While I'm not doing this much nowadays, I want to someday since it was actually a lot of fun to practice Japanese this way. 😁
@@Teedyan I started ffvi today and am finding that one to very quickly be the hardest of the pixel remasters tbh. IV was also challenging too but fortunately not so much. 1 3 and 5 are fairly straightforward adventuring stories while 2 4 and 6 have a lot more political struggles which overall makes the vocab more difficult
It's peak.
Ngl, when i saw the trails of cold steel box art i was like " meh. Probably an anime visual novel." I saw trails from zero thru another youtuber and thought ok I'll give this one a chance. Best decision ever. Any battle with inevitable struggle is automatically top tier but my heart will go to the yin fight. SAV is also good. My friendship with FF is now over. Trails is my new best friend.
I get that to 100%! While I enjoy anime overall, seeing it in games is many times a "bump" for me to get over as anime aesthetic games sometimes are... somewhat special to say the least. But Trails takes all anime troupes and do something really special with them.
I love this game. The fact that each level is based on a classic Mickey Mouse short is a great concept. I wish this got a remaster like Duck Tales. They could really go all-in on the art style of each short. Would be pretty special. Could even add a bunch of new levels based on shorts that weren't featured first time round.
I agree, the game is great and a remaster like DuckTales would have been so nice with a bit of new content sprinked onto it. Let's wish it into existence 😁
Dustiest coal
I like the "Speaking again in" counter. I've seen a lot of videos about video game music and never seen that before. Nice pick on the track too :D
Thanks for the feedback on this one! I haven't heard a lot about it, neither good or bad so it's nice to hear that it works for someone. When I didn't have it I felt a bit lost in my own videos so the aim with it is to just make sure that the viewer know what's coming up. It's easier to stay and listen for 15 seconds more, if you know that there is a change coming up.
I knew its gonna be either Getting over the barrier (normal battle theme) or Inevitable Struggle
Can't go wrong with either! 🎵
If you like zero soundtracks, azures gonna make you scream. Best in series for me
I'm playing through Azure right now! I still feel that Zero is a stronger package so far when counting only new music, but there are some really nice ones in Azure as well so far. I just need to continue to hear even more.
What i love about most of Falcom Games' soundtrack (Trails, Ys, Xanadu games) is that you'll know exactly in which part of the game where the music plays if you play their games Most of it are recognizable, and catchy
Totally agree! I was out for a run today and listened to some Ys Seven music and it really felt like being "there" in the game. They know their stuff. 😁
Whats the app thing at the left of the screen? Thanks in advance
You mean to the right? :) If so, then it's Takoboto (using Android).
I loved Lloyd's battle theme in Reverie, it's called Stand Up Again and Again!
Thanks for the comment but please refrain from talking about anything past the game that the video is about. I didn't know about any of this yet. :(
@@Teedyan I'm sorry, it was just a battle theme, i'm not going to spoil anything about the game.
@@Daichi82 Just a hunch, but he probably didn't want to know that Lloyd was in the game yet considering how far along in the series it is compared to Zero.
I hear trails music, i like
I really wish I could play these games again for the first time they are so damn good. Streamed the duo on my channel last year and the year before
I totally get that, while I really want to catch up the to the most recent games I also want to just enjoy that I have this much content left to enjoy. I have countless other works that I want to erase my memory off, so I totally get what you're saying. How was it to stream the Trails games for you? Did you have issues with people spoiling stuff?
@@Teedyan maybe if I was well known or something I would’ve but no I was never spoiled anything besides stuff I sort of knew out of order since I played cold steel before them. I only had like 2 or so ppl watching me lol but I streamed so I could watch them later
This track is so goooooooooooooooooooooood. Coziness deluxe. I think the whole series (Trails/Kiseki) is using "Leitmotifs" really really well. I don't really know an other game series that uses Leitmotifs this well!
I agree, It's definitely the gaming franchise - that I can think about right now - that uses them the best. Also, I hadn't heard the word "leitmotifs" being used anywhere before so I was too afraid to put it in the video even though I wanted to use the word as we do in Swedish. 😅
@@Teedyan Leitmotif is quite a nerdy/schooled term so i think it is wise to not use it in a video if you don't do hard analyzes of music.
@@jakobjohansson3182 This made me feel better about the decision. 😁
Nice song indeed. I can indeed feel what you said about when the Main Menu Theme enters. I love when they use that trick in music, having other themes sneak into the song, symbolising some kind of connection between the two.
What music tracks from "Trails from Zero" are your favorites?
Crazy to think that the Kiseki/Trails series is a sub series of the Eiyuu Densetsu/The Legend of Heroes series, which is a sub series of the Dragon Slayer series. While there hasn't been a main game titled Dragon Slayer, since Dragon Slayer The Legend of Heroes 2
Crazy indeed. It really spiraled down into its own beast of a sub series. It's a bit like how Persona just became the main face of the Shin Megami Tensei series, but not quite as extreme.
While yes this track is awesome, get over the barrier roaring version is way more epic imo.
I have yet to really "fall" for that one, but I also haven't listened to it that much yet. Many of the music tracks in the Zero OST are already growing a lot on me, so we'll see what I think after a bit of time. Do you like the normal "Get Over the Barrier" more than "Inevitable Struggle" as well?
@@Teedyan for epicness, struggle definitely.
I like Get Over the Barrier but some people seem to like it far more than I do lol. I just think it's good, there are a looot of better battle themes in this series though
didn't even have to click to know it was inevitable struggle. you have good taste.
And your taste is just as good I see! 😁🔥
I was wondering if it was either inevitable struggle or get over the barrier
GET OVER THAT MOTHER FUCKING BARRIER THAT DO BE ONE INEVITABLE STRUGGLE
Every timee this played this got me soooo MMMPH What I love is that it's not overused and when it is you know THIS IS WHEN SHITS GOING DOWN Fave moment is when it plays protecting the IBC and KeA against all odds!
I 100% agree with this, that's what makes it so magical. 🤩
My favorite is when you listen to it while defending the IBC, also love Demonic Drive while you are escaping through the city, amazing scenes, Inevitable Struggle is fire, don't listen the arranged version before playing Azure or it will spoil the moment a bit
The city escape had me hyped, I had to stay up till 8am to finish the game it was THAT exciting!
That moment is really cool. Especially when the backup arrives at the scene.
@@RetroNerdyGamer I also stayed until very late that day, same happened when finished Azure, the next day at work I was a sack of potatoes, but well worth it 😊
I give Ganon battle a A tier. I like when he is spinning the trident it goes with the music
Haha, I never thought about the spinning going along with the music. I will think about that the next time I beat him. 😁
i love so much ineveatable struggle
Let's love it together! 🤝
Just curious, did you listen to the arranged version of this track? I like it just as much as the original.
That's a good question. I have only listened to it once, but it still haven't grown as much as the original on me. But when I've heard the original too many times in the (near) future, I might need the arranged version of it as an alternative. 😁
This instantly reminds me of the chapter 3 boss cracking his knuckles. Definitely made an impression.
That is probably my favorite animation in the whole game. It's so small, but it's such a nice little moment. Good callout!
This track is very nice and plays at such cool moments.
A man of culture I hear 😁
