As an interior designer that went to school in Waco and has lived in TX the past 12 years....Magnolia is NOT the most welcome addition to the community, lol. They've really taken over the city and pushed a lot of smaller businesses and existing community out; their renovations of the surrounding area have made it really difficult for people to keep their homes between the rising property value, taxes, and tourism. It's insane to see how much it has changed in even the past 5 years. Also just hate how pretty much everything they sell at this point is just heavily marked up wholesale products.

That's sad, I would've thought Chip and Joanna would care more about their town.

    • @sparklepea

I get all your valid points about the effects on the community but just to say the definition of a retail business is to sell heavily marked up wholesale goods

    • @cozy-_-critter

@@sparklepea totally understand, just sad to see when they could easily do consignment and collaboration working with local crafters (there are SO many in the area) and thus building up and supporting their local community. They have a huge platform, and it's sad to see them choose additional profits over doing something good with that power, ya know?

It is such a cool thing to live someplace for more than just a week or two and not just consider yourself a tourist. Having a finite time in a place does make you get out and about more and not take things for granted but you also get more of a mundane sense of the place.

Aah! I wish I had been at Magnolia that day! I have lived in Waco for 3 years. I think Magnolia is good for the city. I thought it would be an attractive place to live because of Fixer Upper. When my husband got a job at Baylor, I was super excited to move to Waco! With the caveat that I’m not a Waco native, I think the Gaines businesses are good for Waco. They draw tourism dollars and population which brings economic growth. And from a selfish perspective, that draws more career opportunity for me. (I’m an engineer)

Must admit that interior design wasn’t on my mind when I heard Waco Texas. And after the new abortion law, Texas isn’t feeling that great. Although I’ve heard lots of good things about it. 👍

The female peacocks are all white. They are called peahens. I have seen an albino male before though.

Peahens are naturally brown. All-white ones are often the male peacocks. They're leucistic, rather than albino.

I have always wondered what your boyfriend does for a living. I guess he’s kinda shy since he doesn’t seem to come on very much. I just wondered if he was able to work in Austin as well.

Not sure I would ever want to live in Texas :( Never mind the restaurants.......how about their politics? Banned abortion after 6 weeks........most women don't even know they're pregnant at that point. Any state that is working to take away women's rights is not a good place. They passed a voter repression bill. They signed into law where you can carry without a permit. Who does that??!! Texas is the most uninsured state in the nation, but they refuse to expand Medicaid. They don't permit trans kids to participate in sports. Discriminating against kids, isn't that special? Then you've got 100+ days, flooding, issues with the border................. just saying.

💯 Currently I can't imagine being a woman of reproductive age and even considering moving to Texas! Love you guys, hope you reconsider!

FYI: Tr a ns kids are not banned from playing sports; males just can't play on the female teams. Which, if you're a feminist, it makes sense that you would be in support of only females being allowed to play against females. 🤷
Males can still play on male teams; they just can't join and dominate on the female teams.

I live in San Antonio (and have lived in TX almost my whole life) and am active in progressive spaces/have done some organizing here. I think there is also a lot of camaraderie around people who want to make positive impact and help foster more progressive change. I also feel like the urban centers of cities like SA and ATX feel vastly different than suburban and small towns in the rest of Texas.
I guess what I'm getting at is given that I've built up a group of like-minded, and engaged people makes me feel like I can both appreciate the good parts of the state (and stay in the same state as family and my hometown of El Paso) and also do what I can to stay engaged and active in my community.

ok, so, is this just a me problem?! I have not been able to have a consistent decibel level for any of their videos on either channel for like a few months, the music is ungodly loud compared to voice + such so like it's been hard to watch. I typically consume YT through my TV or PC and I've literally had to use my earbuds on "vocal boosting transparency mode" [which tends to smooth but still pass through anything deemed "background noise'] so that everything evens out and doesn't make my brain itch or deafen me ...... just wanted to point it out just in case I'm not totally crazy cause I have yet to see anyone complain in comments buuuut I have a tendency to gaslight myself and think most if not all things just must be a me problem so I never know what's real or not LuL .... okie anyhoos byyyyye

Austin is a cool city but the State of Texas sucks. Make sure you can stand to live there. Health Care sucks, the ban books, Health care sucks for women, and the energy grid is the worse in the country.
