This is absolutely true about lips! I recently started rolling over my lips many times during my session and they're not only plumper but more defined. I'm 54 years old and my lips look better than they did when I was 30!
I did Microneedling with PRP injection in the skin, it helped to smooth stretch mark scar on my face. The doc also injected vit c (which she added to prp). It stimulated collagen. After 2 sessions and 3 months later, it smoothed out. I was 43 then.
Ok GREAT INFORMATION but I thought that type of roller damages the skin!???? 😮 I keep seeing in many videos that it’s much safer to use the pen instead of a roller. Doctor please let us know if that’s correct and if it is still ok to use the roller
I started derma rolling my scalp and eyebrows with 1.5mm needles literally a week ago, and I already see results in my brows and very subtle results on the scalp. I also apply a coffee mask to me scalp for a minimum of 30 mins each day. Coffee works as a dht blocker. Once i saw the benefits one may attain from derma rolling on the face, i decided to go that route as well and will be using .5mm needles. I've serious eye bags for as long as i can remember, and if I'm able to get rid of my bags, tone and tighten my face and grow my hair back. I would be beyond ecstatic. I've decided to do each session once a week, pretty much my whole face and about 60% of my scalp. No pain, no gain, and this is definitely some pain i will gladly endure if I'm able to achieve such cosmetic goals people spend 10's of thousands and even millions to attain. The pain isn't that bad btw, and it's akin to receiving a tattoo, especially ye 1.5mm roller. Wish me luck 🙏🏾
Do you roll your skin with it as well? He said not to go deeper than 1mm is what I thought. Because I have a 1.5 mm roller and don't wanna buy an extra one.
@kgizzla I don't go beyond 1.5mm on my scalp and .5mm on my face. From what I gather, the research done pertaining to hair restoration with derma rollers was done with 1 and 1.5mm needles. I've come across multiple TH-camrs with desired hair regrowth results that say 1.5mm is the max one should use on the scalp and at a minimum frequency of once a week. Needles of .5mm about twice a week and .25mm about every other day. This is strictly regarding the scalp. Regarding the face, I'd stick to either .25mm or .5mm and maybe work up to max 1mm. A needle length of .5mm should be done no more than once a week and .25mm about 2-4 time a week for desired results. 1mm once every two to 3 weeks. While some say no longer than .5mm on the face. I have two rollers, 1.5 and .5. I'd only use the 1.5mm on the scalp and not on the face. Get something shorter for the face. Of course, clean before and after usage with alcohol, a toothbrush, and boiling water. Also, get a roller with 192 needles and not 540 needles. The 540 needle rollers create more scarring and potential damage to the skin. Hope this all helps.
@@bluespiral4678 alright I see. I'll try 1.5 for my brows as well then, and get a 0.5 for the face. I also have eyebags and wish you good luck getting rid of them! Hopefully it'll help
@@Dr_AbsHi @Dr_Abs, i tried reading that study, specifically about the frequency of use of the microneedling, but they only give an abstract and not the methods! Can you copy and paste that part of the study under your video? Thank you! 🎉
I started my journey with a roller. It worked well. But i had to buy new ones when needles were blunt. I moved on to the Dr Pen. Works well too. I use a new head(pin) each time. I find this way more hygienic as i discard it after each use. A pin is about $2/piece and i can choose different needle types(16pins,32 pins etc). Anyways.. both r good. The end results i find r better with the Pen. I have the Dr 7 if im not wrong. Bought it for less thn $50. The replaceable pins, have costed me another $60 in the past 2years.
@@KL-xs7kq I started out for stretch marks on tummy at 1st. I would use numbing cream, wipe off with alcohol sheets(70%+). And I'd use pure hyaluronic liquid(any good brand) to glide the needle in circular motion. I would do untill I see some abrasions/red spots on my tummy/stretch marks. For Tummy, I would do 1x a mth. For face, I would be gentle. As long as I'm a little reddish, I'm good. For face, 3wks or 1mth intervals coz I'm lazy n tend to forget. I'm in no rush. I have an entire lifetime(I assume).

I've started my micro needling journey with hopes of helping with the stretch marks after pregnancy. I have unfortunately not been measured with it, but I have noticed them fading and I'm glad I got this information from on how to properly do it.
So many online "experts" recommend a 6 week interval beteween microneedling on the grounds that neocollagenesis takes at least this length of time. This is even being said for 0.5mm roller. Is this just bad science, given the study you cited and its results relating to the use of a 1mm roller once per week.
Excellent video. It's always good to find a professional who is not primarily concerned about profits. I have used derma pen needles in the past with promising results Which greatly reduced my acne scars. One of the primary reasons for using the derma Pen was the point that The punctures are straight-up-and-down, reducing unnecessary Tears from diagonal puncturing that may result from rollers. But I suppose, I will also give the rollers a try.
I know why you don't have much views because you are exposing fake products and marketing of big companies lots of love from India for making skin care available to low income households and helping people in need
I prefer a pen. If you have lax skin in various areas, pulling the skin and various pressure on the roller is inconsistent. I also don’t use a serum within the first few hours, I use a growth factor serum that’s very clean, gentle (no acids). It’s a matter of time to build collagen. People need to be patient and consistent. I do a stamping method every 4 weeks.
@@qaana in micro needling it causes intentional microscopic injuries which causes the inflammation. Putting an acid on top of open skin to create additional inflammation to me isn’t something I want to do. I use acids on normal skin with no other treatments so that the acid can work its magic by itself. Jmho.
Please do a video on the Korean skin cream Reedle by VT. I bought some and then added my retinol over the top, and the dark spot on my jaw is now fading. I have used Tretinonin for the past year, and the dark spot never got lighter. Reedle uses a type of sea sponge that penetrates the skin. The sponges are infused with niacinmide and other ingredients. It leaves channles open in the skin which can pull topicals down into the dermis.

I have a friend who had a dark brown spot on her face and said that she tried many expensive creams over the years, and nothing worked, and quite quickly with Castor oil it disintegrated and went way.
Blown away! Where are more doctors like this? The authenticy is incredible. I learned about microneedling, a few years before 2020, and was enjoying the results. Well, I ended up switching to a product that had replaceable heads, and wasn’t as consistent with use probably because I wasn’t seeing the same results, due to the needle not being long enough. In my effort to reduce waste, with replaceable heads, instead of needing a whole new roller, I lost money. I’ll be going back to the 1mm, and looking forward to regaining my youthful appearance again! Thank you Dr. Abs! 💕

@ has to be no oil no acids no retinol. Something basic as high molecular hyaluronic acid for example cos de baha. Then i follow with any available growth factor serum. Osmosis is great, reviv too. The thing is what works is the puncture itself. It stimulates new collagenogenesys

I've been microneedling at home for about 13 yrs ) It is 1 of the most effective things in my skin care arsenal ! I do my face 1-2 × per month, & never used more than .5 depth! I have read many protocols from experts & they all say similar as your video. I prefer to apply a generous amount af organic /natural moisturizer afterwards, I prefer to microneedle at nite. I'm in my early 50s & many people think I'm 10-15 yrs younger.
thank you for talking about this! theres so much fear mongering with microneedling and i am proof that microneedling works, and CAN be done from home. i had cystic acne for 5+ years and was left with all types of scarring: boxcar, rolling, iuce pick - you name it. i really like the Banisher from banish, its a stamper and has helped fill in my scars about 70% and has really given me a lot of my confidence back. awesome video btw!
Haha, I was gifted a derma roller YEARS ago.. (2015 I think) I was unsure of how to use it, so it's been in a drawer since!! I'll definitely haul it out, clean it and USE IT. Yay!!! Thank you for this demo and info, Dr Abs!
I just started for the first time yesterday! I bought a Korabeauticals pen. A bit nervous at first, but it was actually very easy. Will try again in a week or two Update: I actually waited a month to do my second round. Much easier and less scary this time. Does take about 3-4 days for the redness to go away. First day I look rough, next day is smooth skin but super red, each day after gets a bit better.
I like my Derminator from OwnDoc. Lifetime warranty and I can program the exact depth to use. No tearing from the rolling motion and no need to worry about sterilizing the device over and over because there as disposable needle tips.
I just got the dermantor2. I used and loved it. I also put exsomes all over my face and needle it in. Now I do t think I need to buy them they are expensive from Korea
Quick question, I received this as a gift from my neice when I was struggling with some scars and texture. Honestly never tried using it since I find it intimidating and worried about potentially operating it wrong and causing more damage. Can you guys being more experienced user share how quickly it was to learn how to use it and whether derminator is better than korabeauticals?
This was so amazingly informative. I have a derma roller but I have only been using it every 6 weeks to 2 months. I only have small needles as well cause was worried of going to deep and causing damage. Going to try your advice and see how it goes. Thanks so much!
A pen will never go just in and out because it's moving sideways. The needles therefore move diagonally, not vertically. If you keep the pen still then the needles will only move vertically. But if you do this then you penetrate this same puncture potentially thousands of times which I'm sure you can guess isn't a bright idea. A roller grips the skin and there is no ridiculous trauma level. Any tears people talk about are irrelevant because it doesn't matter what shape the puncture is, it matters what effect it makes. The roller still makes exactly the same type of healing without the excess trauma risk, hence why the paper showed almost 700% thickness increase. What else is there to gain more than this apart from increased risk?
After quite a bit of research I tried several things to better my skin. I had lot of acnes when I was younger. Microneedling by far was the most effective at smoothing out the scar and rough skin texture.

I have enlarged skin pores, which I’ve heard can be addressed by using 0.25 to 0.5mm needling depth. However, I also want to use needling to boost collagen which occurs best usually at 1mm depth. Is it true that 1mm needling has no or limited effect on pores? If so, what needling strategy would you suggest that helps me attain both goals: less prominent pores + more collagen under skin? Thank you in advance

I'm a microneedling veteran can you please do a deep dive regarding superiority of rollers vs devices as I own a few and types of rollers as there are ones with individual needles vs on a wheel. I'm sure your fans would be enraptured by such content 😅 wish you were in USA. Thank you so much!❤
Seconding - I’d also love to see a comparison of a popular device like the Dr Pen to a dermaroller, and also what qualities to look for in a dermaroller besides needle length!
in this video, which is terrific, Dr. Abs suggests you can use a Retina A product right after micro needling. I believe he even shows a Tretinoin 1% cream. I have heard some dermatologists say not to use a Retina A product for at least a couple of days before and after micro needling. Has anyone used a tretinoin with good results right after micro needling?
I really dont know what to believe here, because as reasonable as this advice sounds, another derm on youtube - Dr. Dray, is very critical of at-home microneedling. She talks about how it is hard to get the appropriate level of sanitation at home, some of the risks in applying products afterwards, and just the overall lack of enough research to show how great the benefits are. Just hard to know what to think, but i tend to air on the more cautious side
Dr Dray is a vegan with an eating disorder. I learnt a lot from her but I’d say she has blind spots in her ability to change her mind and take on new knowledge .
@@realitychick4502 I agree with you on this, I think we have to take all TH-cam creators with a grain of salt. Best to actually talk to a dermatologist in person in my opinion.

I have watched many skincare videos. Dr. Abs and Dr. Anil Rajani are my favorites because they both promote excellent home use and back up their videos with studies. That being said, Dr. Raj shows a paper and recommends .5mm because he says that's where the collagen is produced in the skin. Like Dr. Abs, he recommends .25mm under the eyes. Dr. Raj is a board certified dermatologist with 20 years of clinical practice. I have to wonder now which is more efficacious - 1mm or .5mm. I somewhat feel like splitting the difference at .75mm, but no one seems to carry that depth of roller. I would welcome a comment from Dr. Abs, re the discrepancy. Thanks for your many excellent videos.
Wow, this is awesome and priceless (ok somewhat priceless) and super appreciated. My loss of hormones kicked me in the butt overnight seems like. Sorry if this was already asked: does anyone need to worry at all about stretching the skin to microneedle it?
Yes agree the eyebrows respond quickly. Even bare ends!

How often do you do this? Just curious....

@4:35 For what I understood, 1mm depth is considered medical microneedling, which should be performed only once a month and not once a week as here mentioned, so to give time to the skin to heal

One of the primary reasons for using the derma Pen was the point that
The punctures are straight-up-and-down, reducing unnecessary Tears from diagonal puncturing that may result from rollers.
May i ask why you prefer not to use acids?
@@qaana in micro needling it causes intentional microscopic injuries which causes the inflammation. Putting an acid on top of open skin to create additional inflammation to me isn’t something I want to do. I use acids on normal skin with no other treatments so that the acid can work its magic by itself. Jmho.
What should use after microneddling?
@@hassanrashidul4941 I don’t use anything right away. I wait a few hours and use a Growth Factor type serum.

Quick question, I received this as a gift from my neice when I was struggling with some scars and texture.

I use a Dr Pen with disposable cartridges. I'm scared a derma roller will get rusty and give me an infection
Just disinfect with alcohol 🤷♂️
I'm afraid it will drag across my skin. A pen just goes straight in and out. Never tried it at all but would like to just gonna have to be a pen lol

Hello Dr. Abs. What about stamps vs rollers? Stamps seem to have a more perpendicular needle path that would cause less unnecessary trauma
They are also effective against hair loss.

Sorry if this was already asked: does anyone need to worry at all about stretching the skin to microneedle it? As in, will the stretching have a negative visible impact on skin or somehow damage the collagen/elastin matrix and make skin more saggy? Or is it not really something to be concerned with?
For a mid-aged person concerned with crepey skin on neck might one benefit from 1mm derma roller?
