I would agree. 50% sticker retention is a lot; look at a 10 year old Bentley Continental for example, which can run 40-70k, and that is far lower than 50% of the new price at $200k
the $70k he mentioned are really low, though.
I had a 2008 A4 (not S4 or RS4, just a 2.0 TDI) which was 67K when it was new.
At least here in Germany an RS4 can easily reach over 100k.

This was my old car I sold last Summer 2016. It lived in Portland OR, and now in San Francisco. I've done all the modifications since buying it bone stock. I miss it dearly, but was nice to see it on TH-cam. Thank you for the awesome review!

I've got the 2010 S5, 4.2 V8, 6-speed manual. Had it for a few years so far with ZERO intention of selling it. That 4.2 is the last of a dying breed. They've been replaced by the 3.0 V6 Supercharged.
That VW/Audi 4.2 V8 will be in the all-time motor "hall of fame." It is just outstanding.

One of my all-time favorites, but it's for a very niche market, which is why the price is only $20-30k in the US. You have to be absolutely in love with Audi, specifically the B7 platform, with the sound, and with naturally aspirated engines to buy one. You can get much newer turbo/supercharged cars for that money that are 500+ lbs lighter and produce just as much power. You also need to take into account the thousands it costs to put new brakes and tires on an RS4 or clean the carbon buildup, etc. BUT if you are a real Audi enthusiast, you MUST own one of these at some point. V8s and manuals are not coming back.

I do really love this car, it's fantastic with its V8 power, 4 wheel drive grip etc. But I'd rather follow my heart and buy a pre face lifted C63 AMG instead.

Oscar Rivas If you're roll racing the two, the s4 will take it from lower speeds (20-40mph) but anything higher than that the rs4 takes it. My buddies were racing... 2010 s4 (auto) vs 2007 rs4

frank1971ification hardly Stone Age. Maybe with the new DCT in the S4 vs. this manual tranny is really the only thing Stone Age about the car. This has 420 HP while that 2.0T barely has 300.
Fell in love with the RS4 a few months ago and almost pulled the trigger... but then I found the B8/8.5 S4 that does everything the RS4 does better. Sure, it doesn't have a V8, but the supercharged V6 is quicker and has more torque. With my 2014 S4, I got the power, looks, and practicality/daily drive-ability of the RS4 with less mileage, less wear & tear, more tune-ability in the future, better reliability, a lower possibility of catastrophic failure (timing belt), plus brand new tech goodies (like bluetooth streaming & sirius xm radio). And I still got a 6 speed manual transmission :)

Brent Garner RS4 doesn't have a timing belt or timing chain issues. Wrong model.
iParatroop you're correct, the RS4's engine had a different design than that of the B7 S4, and did not suffer from the same timing chain tensioner problem. The RS4 still has things to look out for, but if properly maintained, you probably don't have to worry about your engine grenading.
I've owned 3 diff model s4 loved them all dearly but You deff must drive a b7 rs4 and just hear and feel that car it has a r in front for a reason and it's so dam rare ! Love my b7 rs4 summer sunny days only will keep forever ! rs3 soon will be my daily that's my dream combo

I have a 2008 RS 4 cabriolet that I purchased new in May 2008. It has been fun. I replaced the soft top after 5 years, but have not had suspension problems. I did have a valet parking attendant burn out the clutch, but it did well in the snow in Cleveland and I now enjoy it in south FL. The Quattro all wheel drive gives one confidence in FL downpours.

My grandma almost got an 07 RS4 but ended up going with a 12 S5 because of the space saving parts that Audi used in the timing chain to make the 4.2 fit in RS4 that are known to go out at any point in time.

I think this car that you reviewed in specific is absolutely amazing just from the looks of it, you could tell that it would knock anyone's socks off. But I wouldn't say that you'd get the same thing with just 35k and a stock B7 RS4...

It's the other way around. The 4.2 was the RS4's, borrowed by the V8 R8.
Anyone who’s worried about timing chain failure in the B7 RS4, no need to worry. It’s rock solid.
The S4 on the other hand has plastic guides, can likely fail at some point and sometimes without warning. Bummer because you can get them for $10k with low miles.

I deff just picked up an all black rims as well 2007 rs4 with 90000 miles Iam in heaven omg what a machine!! Well maintained new mich sport tired new rotors pads, short shifter chains guides filters oil chestnut cleaning next major service 10000 miles summer car only ! rs4 is deff the best sedan ever so dope

While it's not a V8 , the B8 S4 can be had w/ less issues, and a pretty proven motor and DSG transmission for the same price. W/ a Tune from APR or other companies similar to them you can get around 450-460 BHP. Not to mention it's a much newer car. I looked at them pretty hard before I decided on the C7 A6 3.0T w/ an APR 93 octane tune.

the 5.0 is a derival of the gen 1 Gallardo and used in the C6 RS6 with biturbos.
the 5.2 is an audi N/A engine used in the C6 S6, D3 S8 and R8/ Gallardo gen 2 / Huracan.

RS4 B7 DOES NOT suffer from Timing Chain issue (Ask any Audi mechanic). Nickscarblog outlines the issues spot on. Brakes are expensive, check if suspension was repaired by dealer and it will need carbon cleaning. S4 has timing chain issues

Bmw E60 M5 V10 is my favorite Sports Sedan.
I had 1991 Audi V8 Quattro with a factory 5 speed manual transmission mated to a DOHC 3.6 V8 engine, it was a blast to drive and it was so much quicker than the 3.6 with the 4 speed automatic. I wish the 5 speed manual was available with 4.2 V8 engine for that time period. It was awesome to drive a sedan with a V8 engine and a manual transmission and AWD. These cars are a dying breed. Save the manuals.

Parker it is interesting that you say the seats are too high, this put me off buying one, I had the same model non rs4 variant with manually adjusted seats as opposed to fully automatic and the seats went much lower

If I had to go sport sedans under $50k, I'd go 2004 S4 and bring up the power a tad (it's even cheaper than the RS4, of course). However, if this goes up to full-sized sedans, it would be a 2007 CLS 63 AMG for me. Well, technically it's a four-door coupe, but it still has sedan function and also goes for between $30k and $40k. My father owns one, and hopefully I will be able to inherit it when he decides to get something else.

My brother had a 2005 S4, he got his for $10K @ 110,000 miles. Drove nearly flawlessly, when I drove it, goddamn I wanted to floor it.
Battlecraft Gaming I got mine for $7500 2005 s4 2.0T 6speed, timing chain broke quoted me 3700 to fix it it wasn't worth it no more sure gonna miss it.

Surprisingly there quite plenty full in the mainland U.K. Tons of s4's for under 10 k pounds and rs4's 14-17k gets you a great example with under 70k miles

4:04 my dad's 2016 A6 Allroad Wagon makes popping sounds when I do that on the rear seats. It only happens when I push hard enough though.

That v10 is pricey to maintain but it sounds awesome.
If I wasn't concerned about the reliability/costs to fix, this would be in my garage. It is an everything car for someone living in the northeast or anywhere that has snow and rain 4-5 months per year. I run a two car setup instead / wrangler in winter and 370z in summer
E90 M3, e60 m5, w204 c63, CTSV, just a few things I'd take in a second over the Audi
