Bone broths take an extremely long time to make but it's worth the effort

I often make bone broth, add cream cheese and butter. Keep in the fridge and add a spoon full to scrambled eggs. Very rich and filling.

    All this and anti-ageing too.

yeah, bone broth is powerful stuff. its only drawback is that it may contain a lot of oxalate, so it is not really recommended for people with kidney stones and similar issues

It also uses parts of the animal that usually gets thrown away. The best parts for bone broth are the feet. I have a local butcher that saves cow feet for me when I need it. He cuts off the hoof and runs it through the saw a couple of times. This is a part he usually discards and was surprised when I ask him about it! Adding a couple of ham hocks to the brew adds great flavor. I have a 7 gallon kettle I used to make beer in and produces about 4 gallons of broth after 4 days of simmering. I pressure can it then cook with it and just drink like coffee or tea. It always turns out better than anything you can buy!

I believe bone broth has healing properties, but in the same respect from what I understand is the glycine can convert to oxalates and be a problem…also high histamine so those with sensitivities should be aware. Most do good with meat broth that is not cooked for many hours

The Paleo Valley brand makes bone broth powder that I really like. it's not just a collagen supplement. It's actual broth that has been dehydrated. I do make my own sometimes but most of the bones around my house get chomped up by my dog first. The powdered broth is way easier and not horribly expensive. I put it in my tea in the morning.

Question : If it's been dehydrated does that mean it's heated first ? We make bone broth with low heat but I wonder what temperature is used to create the dehydration ?

@@adelarsen9776 Hmm. Not sure but I know that it is possible to dehydrate meat without it technically being "cooked". I don't think the heat has to be super high to dehydrate. It's more about the air flow.

@@adelarsen9776 Yes, with regular bone broth, I have all good intentions of using it regularly but, with the powder, I actually do it.
