    If your plastic shift / gear indicator adjuster is broken, a Ranger forum guy said he JB Welded his back together & it's still holding after 3 years.
    Another video shows fixing it with zip-ties, as another person mentions in their comment.
    As for replacing the bushings to correct a loose shifter that won't always go into Park (a separate issue) . . .
    You can always start it in Neutral if it won't crank in Park - No need to troubleshoot the battery, starter, anti-theft or ignition, etc. nor call a towtruck, as I learned the hard way & was ultimately educated thanks to TH-cam. Just remember to always set the parking brake when u turn it off because it will take off rolling. Mine is intermittent and getting worse.
    There's a video with a yellow box truck where a guy tightens two T30 Torx bolts / big screws in the same locstion as the bushings and that fixes it. No replacing the bushings and a lot less work.
    He shows how that part moves when u shift, and he shows it working correctly after tightening the 2 bolts, easily going into Park.
    He comments that he's relieved about that because if someone drove it and didn't know to set the Parking Brake, it could and would take off rolling - very dangerous.
    I have all 3 issues; indicator off 1/2 gear +, and the adjuster is broken. It will sometimes goes into Park, but less & less often, and I kinda don't think it can go into 1st gear (1) since Drive is past (2) on the indicator and the shifter can only be moved a fraction more to the right. That's as far as it will go.
    Wish me luck & easy fixes on the truck I love to hate:
    '99 Ford Ranger

      @@jagboy69 After binge watching all the videos, I fixed my broken adjuster with 1 zip-tie.
      Put the 2 pieces together & zip-tie. I used the roundest opening pliers I could find to hold it without crushing it whole pulling the zip-tie tight with needle-nose.

      UPDATE: One of the torx 30 bolts eventually appeared on the floor. The shifter was sloppy as h*ll, no P, R, or 1st gear.
      That bolt took a lot of struggling. Upside down & backward like a contortionist to get head & shoulders that far under the dash. Using a mirror, dropcord light, flashlight held with my teeth plus tools was difficult enuff.
      The thing would go in a little bit & turn, but never tighten - just fall out immediately. Turned out it wasn't aligned with the piece it was supposed to attach to.
      I could just barely see that from the front after sticking a skinny screwdriver all the way through. Had to move, push & pull the shift lever while being underneath the dash looking to get it aligned right. Then get hands, tools & the bolt up in there without bumping anything! Did it, YAY!
      Fixed broken indicator adjuster with 1 zip-tie, Thankx to a YT vid.
      Gear indicator is now lined up perfectly and all the slop is gone with the 2 torx bolts as tight as I could get them.
      Best of all, I have P, R & 1st Gear back without having to go any deeper.

      @@jagboy69 Truth? I hate that truck. I'll take my 91 Chevy S10 over the 99 Ranger ANY day. If only the S10 had kickass AC like the Ranger, power wibdiws, door locks, outside mirror adjustment & a clicker, I'd be happier than sh*t!

    Do you drive with the D or the D that has white around it ??

    • @captainorangesburner
      @captainorangesburner ปีที่แล้ว

      There is only one D on there. But D with white around it is typically Overdrive. Basically use it for everything, all terrain all conditions. Good all purpose, definitely the one you need for Interstate and Highway driving.

    You think ford would fix this problem that goes from the 80s all the way up to at least 2008.. At least they put a adjustment knob in line, starting somewhere thru the years.

    Just give the cable the old reach around

  • @asidasid2487
    @asidasid2487 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    All that does is adjust the marker! How do you remove 2 inch play in cable to transmission?

    • @BetterDays_Now
      @BetterDays_Now 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You might need a new transmission shift cable and bushings.
