    YES!
    I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE FINALLY SAID SOMETHING ABOUT NOT RINSING WITH COLD WATER.
    With my low porous hair, rinsing with cold water makes it feel HARD and like I didn't put any conditioner or anything in it! When I use warm water, my hair is so soft, defined, etc.

      Yvonne Im with you with the coconut oil. 🤥

    • @aseeker2269
      @aseeker2269 6 ปีที่แล้ว +127

      I'm replying suuuuper late but if your is low porosity, you have to use coconut oil when it's warm and when your hair is warm. Once they get cold your cuticles will close and the coconut oil will harden and just sit on your hair. Check out Green Beauty's channel, she goes to great lengths explaining this. BTW, coconut oil doesn't have protein it, which lots of people have been lead to believe, including myself. Once I started using steam, hot towels, and warming my oils, the results have been waaay better

    I love the fact that you said to rinse with warm water!!!! So many recommend rinsing with cold water but I would always think to myself "why close my cuticles now if I am going to moisturizer next"!!!!! Makes perfect sense to me to leave them open on my low porosity hair and close after moisturizing. I also love your suggestion to close the cuticle with cool air using the tension method GENIUS!!!!!!

    • @icycici
      @icycici 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Timetrae Honey, the ph of water opens up the cuticles. You have to close them back to keep the moisture in (low porosity hair only takes what it needs & seals up). Products are meant to seal on top of the cuticles, the key is to not use too much product on the hair.

      @barelyaverage2051 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Jalah Young-Thomas Super late but Cantu products have alcohol in it which is very drying for the hair. Also, I think you might have finer hair since Cantu is typically more for people that have thick type 4 hair. And light Shea Moisture products are more for people that have finer hair or people that have type 2 to type 3 hair.

    This video its so important for the natural hair community, not knowing the porosity off your hair could make a big difference in how you decide to treat/ style your hair you might think that nothings working for you and be upset like me then opt for other methods that just get you by superficially but don't provide you with the real nutrition and care you need to produce the result you need and want it's such a simple test! I almost gave up but this makes so much sense thank you

      tasha the janitor girl, you just read my whole life! I don't know what to do with lay low porous hair & to get by im using Pantene Conditioner. It makes my hair curlier than anything else while its wet & while its wet it just sits on my hair but still makes it look good, but since it never absorbs into my hair shafts (low porous) when it dries up, its horrible! I use oils and everything help me lol! what do you use?

  • @monielove78
    @monielove78 8 ปีที่แล้ว +113

    A neat trick is to heat up the thick conditioners and thin them up a bit to apply to your hair. - stick the conditioner in a bowl of hot water to heat up and loosen the product then apply to hair. Apply your steam cap or plastic cap (steam cap works well) to further open your hair cuticles. Then wash out! Voila use up that product and not waste your money then purchase the right product or continue use depending on your results. Hope this helps some ladies out ..Cheers :)

    Back in 2010 or 2011, I remember telling my hairdresser that my natural hair was "water resistant" and I asked her why? But she did not know. When I washed or spritz water on my hair, it would not penetrate and would remain on top the strand... I was so frustrated. My hair remained dry and was breaking. No one could tell me why. Then I started to Google and came across a wealth of information on how to care for natural hair and "boom" I came across the whole porosity concept. I was so enlightened. Now I know that the "water resistant" hair was low porosity... And now I am aware of how to care for this low porosity hair of mine. Thanks!

    My hair drinks everything I put in it. I have bought every product and made people millionaires. Watching your video. I get it now, I needed heat,which open up my pores. So last night I threw my go to product Mane Choice in my hair. But before that sprayed a leave in. Layed in my bed, got under the steamer I bought years ago. You can find it on ebay/Amazon. Got up this Morning, warm my product and put in more into my hair. Now its kicking with Curls. Thank you for this video. Keep up the good work.

    I have very low porosity hair, it never dries and product builds up very easy. I had alot of struggles with my hair before I realized this and made adjustments (ex. cowashing absolutely is a bad idea unless I am doing a midweek wash and go between full washes). Everything you said was right on for me except the Aunt Helen's Cholesterol. I mix it with every conditioner that I use, water it down a little and it provides the softness, slip and curl definition to conditioners that only add moisture and strength. For example, I love the banana and bamboo deep conditioner from Dark and Lovely but I need that Aunt Helens for slip.

    Can I use Apple Cider Vinegar to cleanse my hair? I know it has a tendency to close the cuticle, but if I mix it with warm to hot water, will that counteract the effects of the ACV? Also can I use a sulfate-free shampoo to clean my hair every week? I really like the Shea Moisture moisture retention shampoo.

    OMG! I have to share this video with a friend. I was experiencing a lot of breakage until a friend gave me a homemade product to put in my hair. It worked beautifully. So I asked her what the main ingredients were besides shea butter. The key ingredient that worked for me was grapeseed oil. I have tried every oil but nothing worked as grapeseed oil. I totally agree on the regimen you proposed. Thanks for the info.

      Aloe is one of the best things you can use for both your hair and skin. Hawaiians have been using it for decades here in Hawaii. It helps with cell rejuvenation so you can use it on any skin problem imaginable. It's extremely hydrating if incorporated into diet and will help cleanse and repair from the inside out. You can even use the fresh aloe (from the plant) and mix it with honey to make an amazing face mask.

    It took me a while to figure out that my hair is low po. What solidified my assumption was when I finally did a strand test in water. I used to use coconut oil, blow dry with heat, and rinse with cold water. After a few months I noticed how dry and tangled my hair always was. First I replaced the coconut oil with almond and olive oil, then I started blow drying with cool air when I was in a rush but typically I let it air dry, and now I do warm water rinses and my hair is doing so much better. I wish I had of seen your video when I first went natural it woulda saved me from big chopping so many times to get it right lol but i still appreciate you sharing the knowledge sis. It's so important to understand your hair's needs to nurture it properly. I'm definitely going to look for products with those proteins to strengthen my coils even more

    This explains a lot to me. For the longest I thought I had high porosity hair so I was using heavy products especially castor oil and last night I slathered my hair in coconut oil and another oil that was lighter. I finally did a porosity test (before last night) and I'm actually low porosity. I'm going to have to rethink my hair regicide again! But this seriously explains so much, I got really matted hair last year and had to cut so much off.

    This is such a great video! Very informative and it couldn't have come at a better time!
