I am such a visual person with it comes to learning, so I decided I would incorporate more 'tools' in my teachings, and believe me I have some interesting teaching tools in some of my upcoming videos! LOL! And thank you for the hair compliment -- I have figured out how to keep this hair moisturized (the gray is so dry!) and still maintain fabulous hair!

    I clicked on this video for tips on how to properly moisturize my hair, and you explained everything very well. Growing up with porosity hair, I was always told by the people who were putting my hair in braids that it was always super dry and brittle. I'm still having trouble looking for specific products that can keep my hair moisturized while my hair is both in and out of braids. Do you have any recommendations for hair products that are more liquid based?

    • @KarenofCurlHouse
      @KarenofCurlHouse  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jada! So so sorry for the late reply! I don't know how I missed this message. So yes, it is extremely important that you keep your hair hydrated while in braids. And make sure you deep condition your hair before and after you come out of braids as well. You can try the Curl House Hair Nourishing Leave in Conditioner -- its a light spray, excellent for the hair and scalp --> curlhouse.com/products/hair-nourishing-leave-in-conditioner. Use promo code YT15 at checkout for 15% off. Unfortunately, I don't another recommendation for spray leave in; as the other leave in conditioners I use are thicker and not suitable while in braids. Another recommendation is the use the Jinsa Light Spray Oil -- so you can alternate between water based and oil. Here's the link for this as its also one of my favorites --> amzn.to/3Txnflw. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

    I take care of my baby cousin’s hair a lot and she has low porosity 4c hair. I’m on an extreme budget, are there budget friendly products that you could recommend for her hair.
    How often should we wash her hair?

      Hi Jaimegrace North! Thank you for reaching out to me. I totally understand. Shave it off? Oh my! Let me ask a few questions so I can make the best recommendations. How do you keep her hair -- or how to do you stye it? Twists, fro, braids? And do you need recommendations for shampoos, conditioners, or moisturizers, and stylers or everything?

      @@KarenofCurlHouse yes unfortunately last time they had her they buzzed it to be about an inch long(it's a bad situation unfortunately) :( it's grown quite a bit since though! We usually do sections with twists or braids. I'm not the best at doing smaller braids but I have done braids as well as just leaving her curls. And I'd be grateful for any recommendations that can help! I am concerned that the sectioned styles are pulling too much because she has some slight hair loss near her forehead.

      @KarenofCurlHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there! Yes. You can use sprays and/or creams daily if you hair needs it. Do you know your moisturize cycle? Meaning, how long your hair can go before it need more moisture? You can check out this video --> th-cam.com/video/g8nAxafl11Q/w-d-xo.html
      No. You don't have to do it in the shower. You can even consider doing it at night before bed as well. Not right before bed, but sometimes when you hydrate at night or while in the house you don't have to go outside and your hair has to face all of the environmental elements.

    Karen, you look beautiful with longer grey curls! Thank you for the video. Question, I heard that “yellow products” stain grey hair, such as jojoba oil. Would the grape seed oil be better in this case. I’m not a fan of heavy oils, so I appreciate your suggestions. 😘

    • @KarenofCurlHouse
      @KarenofCurlHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeanine! Thank you so much! This grey hair is now part of me!!!! Thanks again!! So yes, some yellow products/ingredients may stain the hair. So grape seed and almond oils are great suggestions. They tend to be more clear or very very pale yellow. Even refined jojoba oil is colorless (and a little more expensive). I always recommend -- if it ain't broke don't fix it. So if what you are doing now works for you (using limited oil) then keep on doing what you're doing. 🤗

    • @KarenofCurlHouse
      @KarenofCurlHouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jean! General rule of thumb: Warm water opens the cuticle, so should be used at the beginning of wash day so rinse hair, then apply shampoo and rinse with warm water; warm water also helps to remove dirt and buildup on the hair. Cold/cool water should be used when rinsing out conditioner because it helps to close the cuticle. Hope this helps 🤗

      Yay? Fabulous! You can seal on wet or dry hair. Typically your hair will be either wet or damp because you will add the oil/butter over the moisturizer which is water based. Hope that makes sense 🤗

    Will Custer oil help to seal low porosity hair?

    What do you do if your hair hates oil 😂that’s my biggest problem now is having a oil to seal in that moisture.would u recommend a water based gel?they say gel helps seal in moisture

    • @KarenofCurlHouse
      @KarenofCurlHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Aye! I am going to post a video in a few hours all about hair oils for sealing. So stay tuned for it! So does your hair hate all oil? I tend to put styling products in the 'style' category. Some gels are very hydrating like Uncle Funkys Daughter Curly Magic is very hydrating because of the humectants like glycerin. So you can try that if you want something that will keep our hair hydrating.

      @@AyeJordan7 Ok... hold tight...video scheduled for one hour! You may need thicker oils or butters like shea butter, cocoa butter, or even hair grease (very heavy, depending on porosity and thickness)

      @@KarenofCurlHouse I have low porosity and I used shea butter.I jus don’t think oils and heavy butters is for me,I probably need a water based gel to hold in something light

    With the porosity test does it matter the water temperature and does porosity change as your hair turns grey?

    • @KarenofCurlHouse
      @KarenofCurlHouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Doretha! I typically suggest room temperature water as warm water opens the cuticle and cold water closes it. Now you will get the best results if your hair strand is CLEAN. Keep in mind the water strand test is NOT scientific -- it should be used as a general guide to determine porosity. Also, porosity can change as hair turns grey because grey hair is typically more porous. (But some people don't notice a difference in their hair's porosity after going grey -- gray hair is in the 'gray' area! LOL! In addition to that, the sebaceous glands don't secrete the same amount of sebum (natural oil) so the hair is more dry. I will be producing some videos coming soon solely dedicated to gray hair.

    Is it possible to have a mixture? High porosity or low porosity? I honestly use to wonder why my hair seems so dry. I started doing just that water or peppermint water and oils. The best decision I made for my hair. I will be re-locking my hair again my hair grew tremendously just by locking and leaving it alone. Thank you so much for your videos🙏😊

    I love your hair, is it low porosity? If so, what products do you use?

    • @KarenofCurlHouse
      @KarenofCurlHouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you so much Jacquelyn!!! Yes! My hair is ABSOLUTELY low porosity -- and add the grey on top on that which makes it super dry! LOL! I use several brands for maintenance and moisture -- starting with my own -- Curl House Hair Restoration Collection, which includes a light spray leave-in conditioner; I work with clients with slow growing hair and scalp issues so the entire line to geared toward scalp care and growth. I also like Uncle Funky's Daughter liquid spray and cream moisturizers. I also use their styling gel Curly Magic for my curl definition. Design Essential Daily Moisturizing Lotion is good as well -- packed full of glycerin and great for moisture. I typically order my oils from Essential Wholesale -- I really trust the quality of their oils. I think I will do a whole video on products soon too, because I use alot! 😛
