  • I am often asked what are the best ways to moisturize low porosity hair. I provide several steps for a typical wash day. This may be used as a quick reference, I will upload a more comprehensive demonstration later this week.

      +Younique2011 Just warm up your moisturizer if it is too heavy/thick and is not absorbing into your hair. The Shea Moisture leave in conditioner I used to use was pretty thick. Now that I am using the Butter Than Love Pudding by Wonder Curl, I am able to get good absorption. What leave in are you using?

    Today is actually the first day that I've learned my hair is low porosity. I just washed my hair like this and noticed the difference immediately. Before following your method, I would wash my hair and deep condition, etc but nothing seemed to work. No matter what my hair was dry, brittle, and would fall out even with me just finger detangling it. I After following you method my hair stopped breaking and shedding immediately! My hair is sooooo soft and moisturized! Good to know that my hair is just low porosity and I've been using all the wrong methods for it, hence why it was so dry and brittle. I was starting to worry that it might be something more serious or medical; I'm telling you literally NOTHING was working for my hair before I watched this video. Thank you soooooooo much!!! Can't wait to see how much length and hair I retain using this wash regimen.

    WOW she just opened my eyes. Literally by the first thing she said I realized I'm taking care of my hair completely wrong and backwards. I am so grateful for this video. As a young girl no one took the time to tell me about my natural hair other than that I should "just relax it and get it over with". From my only tip being water is a black women's kryptonite to water is the KEY to my curls health, you've definitely done MORE than helped me! Thank you !

    • @Apixi
      @Apixi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "water...the black woman's dynamite" lmao I couldn't live w/o water. Can't wash, condition, moisturize, comb or doing anything to or for my curls w/o water. Turns out I was just using too much of it. I had to learn where my hairs "healthy balance" falls

    Why does everyone on TH-cam hair hangs down long and stretched out when wet?? When my hair is wet it's shrunken into a small Afro even though its shoulder length- actually past my shoulders. I'm 4 years natural & under the assumption I have 4c hair.

    • @DistressedAndImpressed
      @DistressedAndImpressed 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      F. Jones You just have shrinkage, that's all.

    • @sw33tnycandy
      @sw33tnycandy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not all. Some of the kinkier type 4 hair has some epic shrinkage. Her hair looks type 3 to me which has less shrinkage than type 4.

    • @Apixi
      @Apixi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      F. jones Everyone's hair is different and has different amounts of shrinkage, depending on a number of things. How far into the wash and go we are, products that weigh down the hair, too much water and not enough curl defining product, etc. Trial and error, trial and error...best wishes

    • @mslady1521
      @mslady1521 8 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      +cwhite13 When your hair is low porosity it needs to be cleansed or else it won't have good definition. All of the deep conditioner that was going to be absorbed will be and the shampoo will simply rinse off any deep conditioner that is just sitting on top of the strand and on the scalp.

      Sorry I don't get that either. Water will just rinse off any deep conditioner that is just sitting on the hair. If you use a clarifying shampoo then you would be stripping it back down to where it would need conditioner again.

    Thanks for your reply. I use a combination of oils, but I have not found any gel that gives me a good tight hold without shrinkage. I use a steamer every week and deep condition. I wear my hair in a tappered cut and 2 strand twist and twist out most of the time. I like my own hair and do not wear wigs or weaves. I have been natural for 15 months. I always sleep with my hair protected and feel like it is in great condition, I am afraid to try the wash and go because I do not want a TWA. I also stay away from heat and use banding for stretching when needed.

    May I just say THAAANK YOOOU for this informative video. I had no idea. I have been natural for almost two years, and recently I've been noticing that my hair is always dry. No matter what I did it would become dry. Literally yesterday I discovered what porosity was. And had no idea about warming up my leave in conditioners. I'm at a learning stage where I'm able to retain the curl definition with gel, but I overdo it so my curls look defined but like gluey clumps (new word). I never have the natural, flowing look that you do here unless I go to a salon.

    Yes, I am so grateful you posted this video. I deep conditioned using natural heat (I put on a shower cap and then a towel for an hour) and my hair is great. Then I was and condition and by the time I use my leave in my hair feels lifeless and dusty and the products just sit on top. Next wash day I will try warming the leave in. I have thick hair so I use Amla Olive and Heavy Cream for leave in. I plan to try Camille rose and Ouidad leave in products soon. Kinky Curly Knot Today isn't thick enough so I use it as a detangler/refresher mixed with water. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    I just want to say thank you so much for this post. I wet my hair today and squeezed as you suggested, and not only did my hair really did look different, all of the product that was sitting on the hair was still there from a week ago. I wash my hair once a week, but as yours, that middle section always looked as if I didn't even like it.. :) but because I've found your channel, I think there is hope. I have a blood disorder where i don't absorb iron, but I'm taking iron, biotin and vitamin C, and now with your help,,,,, squeezing......
    I'm three years natural as of December, but my iron deficiency don't help. I'm going to watch more of your video's and see what else I can learn about my texture of hair.

    Thank you so much, Since I've been natural I have struggled with caring for my hair. I noticed that water and product never really penetrates my hair for years. I 've never knew the solution is that I need to warm products and used warm water not hot water to clean my hair. This was so helpful. My hair grows so fast, but it also breaks just as quickly due to dryness. Thank you so much!

    Hi Abena, thank you so much for this overview of moisturizing low porosity hair. Your hair is absolutely beautiful!!!
    I must give you a brief update. I ordered the Wondercurl products on 7/22 and they arrived on 7/25. How's that for excellent customer service! I've been sick so I haven't had the opportunity to do a thorough wash and deep condition. However, I did use the products and what can I say. You were absolutely right! My low porosity sections absorbed the Get Slick Smoothie and Get Set Gel and left me with a beautiful set of curls with very little to almost no frizz. I'm so elated!!! I'm also glad that I ordered the larger size. These are now my HG products!!! I'm anxious to incorporate your suggestions regarding squeezing the products into the hair as I will probably get an even better result. I can't thank you enough for all of your help. I finally have results that I'm really happy with. I'm looking forward to your comprehensive video and as before I will keep you posted on my progress. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

    So you should shampoo before and after deep conditioning? Do you use a clarifying shampoo?

    Hello there! How R U ! I just want to know if you use baking soda and apple cider vinegar rinse? If not why? I saw other women using conditioner and baking soda then follow with vinegar n water rinse. This helped thier low porosity hair absorb moisture. Is it really harsh on hair? Thanks n God Bless!

    I like that you said to heat up the deep conditioner. I have mask and deep conditioners but never heated them up!!

    What is your thoughts on steam rollers and steam Straighteners? Do they cause heat damage? Do they work better for low porosity hair? Can I steam my hair with hot head microwavable towel cap and how long should I leave it on over the shower cap? How often should I do it following the l.c.o method? Do you have videos for flat irons and Hairstyles that requires indirect heat? Thank you in advance, if you decide to answer my questions.

    Omg I have learned so much in this one video. You are amazing. I'm having trouble with dry natural hair. The back of my hair is so curly when wet and easy to moisturizer. The front of my hair has no definition. It's frizzy and reminds me of 4c hair whereas the back is pretty 3c ringlets. It is so frustrating because I wAnt to wear my hair in a wash in go like yours but half my hair will not coroperate..ugh. Do you have any suggestions? I big chopped last year after transitioning for a year. My hair is about shoulder length

    Wish I live close by I would come to your shop. I have low prosity hair really long but cannot seem to find the product to soften, good slip when washing, or to shine when moisture is seal in. Hair always look dull. Can’t seem to make my natural curls pop like yours soft and free flowing. I do cut ends as needed. What do you recommend?

    Thank you sooooooo much! First of all, you're beautiful! And second, all I really need to do is heat my conditioner lol I've never done that and have never thought about it. Makes sense why product would sit on top and why my hair would still feel rough. THANK YOU!!

      Lupe Brooks Thank you!!! Heating up the conditioner will help to liquify it so it can absorb better. I would love to hear your results after trying this. Blessings!! :-)
