Finally a natural hair vlogger of the highest professionalism. The quality of your videos is unparalleled. Your voice is also so soothing, I could listen to you read the ingredients off of a paint canister and I would enjoy it. Thank you!
Omg have been treating my low prosity hair wrong. I see how product sit on my hair. Never new I needed to squeeze my hair doing washing or applying water and twisting it with product on. I didn't know I needed to heat up my products. Thanks girl
+Younique2011 Just warm up your moisturizer if it is too heavy/thick and is not absorbing into your hair. The Shea Moisture leave in conditioner I used to use was pretty thick. Now that I am using the Butter Than Love Pudding by Wonder Curl, I am able to get good absorption. What leave in are you using?
Today is actually the first day that I've learned my hair is low porosity. I just washed my hair like this and noticed the difference immediately. Before following your method, I would wash my hair and deep condition, etc but nothing seemed to work. No matter what my hair was dry, brittle, and would fall out even with me just finger detangling it. I After following you method my hair stopped breaking and shedding immediately! My hair is sooooo soft and moisturized! Good to know that my hair is just low porosity and I've been using all the wrong methods for it, hence why it was so dry and brittle. I was starting to worry that it might be something more serious or medical; I'm telling you literally NOTHING was working for my hair before I watched this video. Thank you soooooooo much!!! Can't wait to see how much length and hair I retain using this wash regimen.
***** Love it!!! It really helps to identify the cause of the problem in order to resolve it. I am so happy to hear you were able to achieve more moisture. And thrilled that this video was helpful to you. I share more in depth in my latest video. When you get a chance, check out the extended version th-cam.com/video/4aBaJqRHzFE/w-d-xo.html Blessings!! :-)
Excellent‼️ Finally a brief video that stays on topic, doesn’t spend endless time talking unnecessarily about none essential information and provides useful information that works! Thank you
WOW she just opened my eyes. Literally by the first thing she said I realized I'm taking care of my hair completely wrong and backwards. I am so grateful for this video. As a young girl no one took the time to tell me about my natural hair other than that I should "just relax it and get it over with". From my only tip being water is a black women's kryptonite to water is the KEY to my curls health, you've definitely done MORE than helped me! Thank you !
"water...the black woman's dynamite" lmao I couldn't live w/o water. Can't wash, condition, moisturize, comb or doing anything to or for my curls w/o water. Turns out I was just using too much of it. I had to learn where my hairs "healthy balance" falls
+cwhite13 When your hair is low porosity it needs to be cleansed or else it won't have good definition. All of the deep conditioner that was going to be absorbed will be and the shampoo will simply rinse off any deep conditioner that is just sitting on top of the strand and on the scalp.
Sorry I don't get that either. Water will just rinse off any deep conditioner that is just sitting on the hair. If you use a clarifying shampoo then you would be stripping it back down to where it would need conditioner again.
I want your voice someday. This sounds weird but I've never heard a voice so gentle and soothing, yet confident and authoritative. I got some great tips from this video because you know exactly what you're doing, and articulated it well. You are life goals.
your video's are honestly so amazing! I've been trying for years to retain length and manage my hair I now realized I was never successful because I never understood the porosity level of my hair( which I now know is quite low). Your video's have enabled me to understand the importance of product penetration. I'm well on my way to beautiful curls thank you so much!
Why does everyone on TH-cam hair hangs down long and stretched out when wet?? When my hair is wet it's shrunken into a small Afro even though its shoulder length- actually past my shoulders. I'm 4 years natural & under the assumption I have 4c hair.
F. jones Everyone's hair is different and has different amounts of shrinkage, depending on a number of things. How far into the wash and go we are, products that weigh down the hair, too much water and not enough curl defining product, etc. Trial and error, trial and error...best wishes
Thank you so much, Since I've been natural I have struggled with caring for my hair. I noticed that water and product never really penetrates my hair for years. I 've never knew the solution is that I need to warm products and used warm water not hot water to clean my hair. This was so helpful. My hair grows so fast, but it also breaks just as quickly due to dryness. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the reminder to warm the products prior to application. I used to do that often w/my lopo hair...but not as of late. I shall revisit this process. Blessings sis!
Ms. Abena I tried your method for warming up the products before applying them. Thank you so much! It worked!!! I'm doing my happy dance because I really thought my curls were gone after dyeing my hair.
I only recently found your channel. Your presentations are so informative. I am amazed at how much information I have reviewed, that I now find can be damaging to my hair based on your videos!! A sincere THANK YOU!
you just reminded me of something I haven't done in a long time.. heat up my conditioners! I will definitely start doing it again, because I remember how much shinier and softer my hair was when I took the time to do this. Thanks for the reminder!
I just learned that my hair was low porosity this week. I've been going nuts over the exact section in the back of my hair as yours. I'm so glad I've found your videos. Thank you so much. I can't wait to do a wash and go with a warm leave in.
My hair is low porosity in the same areas as yours and it's my biggest challenge keeping it moisturized , thank you so much for this ... I'll start warming my conditioner up too .
Miss Abena, thank you so much!!! This is one of the few videos I've seen that get straight to the point with simple directions that can be modified per individual. Definitely following you ♡
Wow!!! Thank you so much. My hair is so try that I dream of a relaxer almost every month. I can't seem to achieve the moisture retention I once had 6 years ago in the beginning of my journey. I'm certainly going to try your method.
You have gorgeous curls! I just wanted to thank you for this video. I would never have thought of warming my conditioner. Will be giving that a try tomorrow on my wash day. Thanks again!!
Embrace Natural Beauty I just want to say thank you so much for this post. I wet my hair today and squeezed as you suggested, and not only did my hair really did look different, all of the product that was sitting on the hair was still there from a week ago. I wash my hair once a week, but as yours, that middle section always looked as if I didn't even like it.. :) but because I've found your channel, I think there is hope. I have a blood disorder where i don't absorb iron, but I'm taking iron, biotin and vitamin C, and now with your help,,,,, squeezing...... I'm three years natural as of December, but my iron deficiency don't help. I'm going to watch more of your video's and see what else I can learn about my texture of hair.
I just want to say how much I love your videos; they are so thorough and honest, and I appreciate the care and attention you take in explaining things. I have one portion of my hair that is low porosity and all you have shared in this and other videos is helping me ot work with it.
I have seen you on IG, and your hair always looks fabulous! My hair is a mixture of normal porosity and low porosity, mainly normal porosity. Great tips for me to use! About two weeks ago, I started dampening my hair with water and then pre-pooing with coconut oil, and my hair absorbed the oil better.
Thank you for these tips :) I have low porosity hair and products sometimes tend to just sit on the top of my hair without moisturizing properly. I squeezed my hair in the shower when getting wet, squeezed my conditioner in and twisted it, and warmed up my conditioner when styling. We shall see the results when I am done air drying ❤️
Thank you sooooooo much! First of all, you're beautiful! And second, all I really need to do is heat my conditioner lol I've never done that and have never thought about it. Makes sense why product would sit on top and why my hair would still feel rough. THANK YOU!!
Lupe Brooks Thank you!!! Heating up the conditioner will help to liquify it so it can absorb better. I would love to hear your results after trying this. Blessings!! :-)
Embrace Natural Beauty my results were perfect! Increased definition and for once after washing, my hair retained moisture lol I can't thank you enough
This is quite eye opening. I'm definitely going to start warming my conditioners before applying. And shampooing after completing the deep conditioner step? Very interesting. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
May I just say THAAANK YOOOU for this informative video. I had no idea. I have been natural for almost two years, and recently I've been noticing that my hair is always dry. No matter what I did it would become dry. Literally yesterday I discovered what porosity was. And had no idea about warming up my leave in conditioners. I actually stopped using them because it always left a film and caused build up. You are the best and glad to be a new subscriber. Looking foward to more videos. Thanks.
SUBSCRIBED!!!! You have such a calm soothing, spirit, and I really appreciate the direct to the point approach you take in your conversation. Thank you for this video, I never thought to warm up conditioner in advance!
yeeeeeeeeeeeeey! I loved loved this video. I´ve been natural for a couple years now, and I´m still struggling with the right steps and products on wash day for my fine, color treated, with low porosity, and I guess, normal density, type 3b-3c hair.. It´s naturally very very defined, and I like to use gel sometimes, for hold and the day-after... but it dries my hair so much!! I get build-up very easily, which is my main "problem" at the moment. And now that it´s color treated, it changed my porosity, and I have to deep condition way more often. Thank you for the tips!!
Kianna Vaz If you are getting a lot of product buildup, cleansing is very important! Also, be sure to use shampoos and conditioners for color treated hair, they should contain ingredients to better support the needs of your hair at this stage. Blessings!!
Thank you for this! I finally did the porosity test yesterday and discovered I have low porosity hair and this helped so much. I now understand why certain products and regimens were not working for me. Thanks again!
Hi Abena, thank you so much for this overview of moisturizing low porosity hair. Your hair is absolutely beautiful!!! I must give you a brief update. I ordered the Wondercurl products on 7/22 and they arrived on 7/25. How's that for excellent customer service! I've been sick so I haven't had the opportunity to do a thorough wash and deep condition. However, I did use the products and what can I say. You were absolutely right! My low porosity sections absorbed the Get Slick Smoothie and Get Set Gel and left me with a beautiful set of curls with very little to almost no frizz. I'm so elated!!! I'm also glad that I ordered the larger size. These are now my HG products!!! I'm anxious to incorporate your suggestions regarding squeezing the products into the hair as I will probably get an even better result. I can't thank you enough for all of your help. I finally have results that I'm really happy with. I'm looking forward to your comprehensive video and as before I will keep you posted on my progress. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
This was awesome. We have the same texture. I'm at a learning stage where I'm able to retain the curl definition with gel, but I overdo it so my curls look defined but like gluey clumps (new word). I never have the natural, flowing look that you do here unless I go to a salon.
Yes, I am so grateful you posted this video. I deep conditioned using natural heat (I put on a shower cap and then a towel for an hour) and my hair is great. Then I was and condition and by the time I use my leave in my hair feels lifeless and dusty and the products just sit on top. Next wash day I will try warming the leave in. I have thick hair so I use Amla Olive and Heavy Cream for leave in. I plan to try Camille rose and Ouidad leave in products soon. Kinky Curly Knot Today isn't thick enough so I use it as a detangler/refresher mixed with water. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
+msannslee Hey, if you get a chance check out my website www.embracenaturalbeauty.com There is a link to the video Best Moisturizers for Low Porosity Hair along with a list we compiled together during a live broadcast on Periscope.
Excellent explanation! Your tutorial makes sense. Other videos explain products used and aspect of the process, but not in such detail like yours. Thanks
Thanks for your reply. I use a combination of oils, but I have not found any gel that gives me a good tight hold without shrinkage. I use a steamer every week and deep condition. I wear my hair in a tappered cut and 2 strand twist and twist out most of the time. I like my own hair and do not wear wigs or weaves. I have been natural for 15 months. I always sleep with my hair protected and feel like it is in great condition, I am afraid to try the wash and go because I do not want a TWA. I also stay away from heat and use banding for stretching when needed.
I thought it was just me who uses lukewarm water for co washing & rinsing out my conditioner & deep conditioner, when I do this my leave in & oils soak right in, if I use cold water everything sits on top! Great video, glad I found your channel! & Im a new subbie!
I wish I seen this when I realized I had low porosity hair.. Now I know to warm that product.. It makes total sense to me and my dry LP HAIR.. Thanks for the info😚😚
Thanks so much for the videos. You make them simple and understandable. I will be trying your tips on wash day. I'm working on trying to get my hair to get to the point where I can wear a wash and go. I haven't been successful as of yet but I will keep trying. Thanks again!!
JustMyNaturalHair My first few washngos were not that pretty, lol. With practice you will get it. Just remember to work in small sections for better control of the hair. Wishing you the best!!!

Interesting. While not knowing any better I was doing some of those same techniques on my hair. I would squeeze the product into my hair just like you did there. I guess I was doing something right
Very informative video. And because our roots are warmed and conditioned with the natural sebum our scalp secretes, we don't need to apply conditioner to them. Optional I suppose
Thank you so much for this awesome info and vid. I was doing all that but warming my conditioner. So now I have another important step. By the way, girl.. your hair is gorgeous

i love your voice. it's so soothing. why do you shampoo after deep conditioning? im afraid that I'd be washing out the moisture I just applied

Liked the tip on warming your moisturizer

+Valerie Vancol Yay! Keep me posted on your progress!!
I just want to say THANK YOU!!! I tried your tip and applied more product to my second day hair and I love how my hair turned out.
That tip about warming up the conditioner is something I have not tried and will definately be trying. Great vid.
+Pretti Uneekhair Yes, it helps especially in cases of extremely low porosity. Let me know if you notice the difference.
+Embrace Natural Beauty my hair is extremely low porosity, definitely I'll try warming my conditioner, thanks so much, greetings from Spain 🙋🙋🙋
Excellent video. often products sit on top of my hair. I will follow these tips.
Your voice is so pleasant and soothing!
Great video this helped me understand my daughter's hair and how to care for it. I am now seeing great results since making changes.
Why does everyone on TH-cam hair hangs down long and stretched out when wet?? When my hair is wet it's shrunken into a small Afro even though its shoulder length- actually past my shoulders. I'm 4 years natural & under the assumption I have 4c hair.
F. Jones You just have shrinkage, that's all.
Not all. Some of the kinkier type 4 hair has some epic shrinkage. Her hair looks type 3 to me which has less shrinkage than type 4.
F. jones Everyone's hair is different and has different amounts of shrinkage, depending on a number of things. How far into the wash and go we are, products that weigh down the hair, too much water and not enough curl defining product, etc. Trial and error, trial and error...best wishes

Super helpful. That demonstration with the product just " sitting there".. was everything. Thank you

Now this is what a hair tutorial looks like!!
I wish more tutorials were as precise and helpful as this one.
Thank you so much for sharing!
This is the best hair tutorial I have seen yet for any porosity hair. And your hair is beautiful!
I only recently found your channel. Your presentations are so informative. I am amazed at how much information I have reviewed, that I now find can be damaging to my hair based on your videos!! A sincere THANK YOU!
Instant fan!!! Your hair is beautiful, and your voice is a pleasure to listen to.
Wow! I really didn't know how important heat was for low porosity naturals. Thank you for showing me.
you just reminded me of something I haven't done in a long time.. heat up my conditioners! I will definitely start doing it again, because I remember how much shinier and softer my hair was when I took the time to do this. Thanks for the reminder!

That steamer is AWSOME !
My hair is low porosity in the same areas as yours and it's my biggest challenge keeping it moisturized , thank you so much for this ... I'll start warming my conditioner up too .
I like that you said to heat up the deep conditioner. I have mask and deep conditioners but never heated them up!!
Thank you so much for not having lengthy videos. I love that you get straight to the topic of your video and it was very informative...learned a lot
One of the best videos giving advise on how to moisturize low porosity hair

Love your videos. I now understand why my hair doesn't curl properly in the front, i have to force the moisture in and I will do so tomorrow
