Silly question but do you think buying decorative sand from the dollar store would be easier to use on a lighter paint? Also, with the vase you used the grout on, have you found that it has set, or do you get some grit falling off when you touch it? Thank you so much for sharing this video!
@@marnilane6124 Hi Marni! I think sand would work! I have also seen variations on Pinterest where people used regular dirt on white or light colors. Also, the grout vase has held up great. The acrylic paint and matte clear spray paint sealed it all in.
@@ActuallyAlli, thank you so much! I’ll have to check out Pinterest 😁 Do you ever create with air dry clay? I bought some the other day from Amazon and I’m not quite sure what to build 😂
FUN TIP*** Primitive crafters use fine ground coffee grinds, (used grinds). Mix in the amount u like with your paint. The grinds will give a hint of a stained effect. It gives a great stoneware pottery effect
I appreciate that you used primer and a top coat! Drives me crazy when DIYers paint right over glass, plastic, or an existing glaze without sanding or priming. Whenever I go thrift shopping, I always find a few "DIY fail" vases that weren't properly prepped and primed--the paint job is cracking and flaking off and looks terrible. Prep is key to a successful project. So thank you for demonstrating the correct way!
Alli I'm loving the vases, my favorite is the mud vase, but the texture on all of them is stunning. I'm going to try these techniques for sure. They would make adorable textured snowmen too TFS, xoxo
The last one (dirt) is my favorite, but would use any of these. Great idea to dress up the clear ones we all seem to have around! Thanks for the inspiration!
Wow what a great job all the bases have different techniques and yes I am going to try the one with the dirt I’ve seen that being done I have to say you made them look not so challenging LOL it looked beautiful at the end I guess that would be my favorite and the one with the baking soda I would like to try so thank you so much have a blessed day
Thank you so much for this! I’ve seen these different types of vases done. But your side-by-side explanation was excellent and very helpful! Also gave me confidence to give it a go!
You know what i like. You container and spoon for dirt is real.. Thats how real people do it not showcase stuff. 👍 people are tired of fake showcase stuff
I am loving all these techniques! If someone isnt fond of the dirt, try coffee grounds👍 I am considering adding sand to paint, I believe that would be an interesting textural/ visual effect.
A coat of dark wax would look nice on the taller vase you weren’t sure joint compound would stick to. Dark wax would give it more dimension. Just a thought.
Primer is a base coat that gives the colored spray paint something to stick to, especially on smooth surfaces like glass. It's not completely necessary, and many spray paints have primer in them already!
Which vase was your favorite? Do you think you'd try the mud vase?

I'm definitely happy I didn't skip the primer! All the finishes have held up really well even a year later!
You know you're from the country when you laugh at someone for being grossed out by dirt... LOL You are so cute. All your vases turned out great Alli!
I really liked the 2 Terra Cotta colored ones the best. They look so good!

The last one (dirt) is my favorite, but would use any of these. Great idea to dress up the clear ones we all seem to have around! Thanks for the inspiration!

The black one is beautiful, thank you. Greetings from Germany

I love the middle one!! ❤️
The one l loved the most is the round one with the faux cement technic.
I loved both the concrete effect and the mud ones!
cornmeal would be a great texture also and the vase you used caulking on I would put white wax on after you were finished.
I agree....I like the dirt one the best and then the cement look.....=]
Thank you! Those are my favorites too

Here too! We have 6 inches of snow on the ground. Someone in the comments suggested trying sand from the craft store/dollar store or potting soil!
I’m a newbie, Hi 👋🏼 from Brisbane Australia Only just found your channel. Love the dirt one best

I am loving all these techniques! If someone isnt fond of the dirt, try coffee grounds👍
I am considering adding sand to paint, I believe that would be an interesting textural/ visual effect.

Great video!!
Can you tell me whats the name of the colors you used in the first vase ?
Great video!!! What brand grout product did you use? Btw, at 7:31-gorgeous!!!
Hi Ashley, thanks for watching! I don't remember the brand, but I got it at Lowe's if that helps any
nice technique loved it
You can also try coffee and cinnamon to rub into the vases! Love this!!!!
You're right! That's a great idea!
@@ActuallyAlli I tried the coffee yesterday it works great for an added warmth to the vase works better on lighter colors!
Love ❤️ it
Great job
A coat of dark wax would look nice on the taller vase you weren’t sure joint compound would stick to. Dark wax would give it more dimension. Just a thought.
next time try to use all-purpose joint compound or plaster, it will give you better texture and coverage than grout.
Thanks for that tip! I actually have a thrift flip video coming up soon where I try that!
Do u think these would work on plastic vases
I definitely think it would work on plastic! Just make sure to use primer or lightly sand the vases first!
You can add corn meal to paint for a different texture.
Can you use this on plastic containers
You can! Just like working with glass, I'd suggest priming the surface or lightly sanding it first so the paint will stick
Great job⚱️
Try Used wine bottles for Stem Vases.
What's primer? Is it necessary?
Primer is a base coat that gives the colored spray paint something to stick to, especially on smooth surfaces like glass. It's not completely necessary, and many spray paints have primer in them already!
Hi, just wondering if anyone has done a layer of paint+ over the textured spray paint. Might be a super textured surface.
I think I saw someone on Instagram do that and it turned out really nice
Damn! u r the Best
A D O R E I obrigada 🇧🇷
What is primer?
Are all your faux ceramics actually ceramics to begin with?
Don't need to go to Michaels to
get the dirt , do ya,' Molly Brown?

Tip from someone who does tile floors. Please wear gloves when working with grout. It has strong chemicals and will dry your hands very badly.
Vase not vAse lol
