Please note peel and stick tiles WILL peel off the wall paint and drywall when removing… even w a hairdryer …. These days I use plain white contact paper as the first layer on the wall, then apply tile over that. Much less of a disaster to remove.
I would go with white tiles. Just not fan of green, but then it's your kitchen. Contact paper is very hard to work with. I wish you luck on that! The black cabinet pulls would look great.
I definitely prefer the green tile, even when placed against the very dark counter top. It's gorgeous imho. And yes, I think black pulls would work best with the current cabinets and appliances. The contrast with the wood and tie in to the appliances would work well. If you go with the white marble peel and stick for the countertop, try to find one that has a touch of green in it to tie in with the green tiles. If you can't find that, than I suggest trying to find a tan/marble tile back splash that most closely matches the white contact counter top you want to use. Maybe a brown, but I wouldn't go tan as you could wind up clashing with the cabinets... Definitely think you need to change out that boob light! That alone will effect the kitchen a lot, and may have an impact on what type/color of pulls you want to use. You can add a lot of lighting just by adding peel and stick under counter strip lighting and maybe even a tiny lamp which is quite trendy in kitchens right now. I strongly suggest this especially if you want to go with the green tile. -- jmho! I'm glad I stumbled on your vid today and look forward to watching your journey!
I second your enthusiasm about the wooden details underneath the countertop because it adds colour without being super bright and it sets the "snack area" apart from the entryway. Atm they look like one area since they're both white. But I'm sure after all these ideas and your successful transformations in the past you will truly make this your own.
Hi Alli I have seen DIY’s where they put a piece of cardboard on the cabinet doors and then contact paper them which seems less difficult than contact papering a raised panel cabinet door….
I "vote" for the black pulls, the green tiles, and the wooden detailing for the snack area. Will be looking forward to your choices and the reveal. I had never thought of redoing a rented kitchen before. Maybe I'll get some ideas also. Tho my kitchen is a lot narrower than yours, I would NOT want to co-cook in there.
Like yours, my kitchen has no natural light. I covered my appliances with contact paper. Surprisingly it brought a lot of light into my kitchen. Websites have more choices of contact paper, then stores.
If you’re looking for a nice thick marble contact paper I used one from Amazon that was by the brand very berry the white matte version in my bathroom and it looks really nice! Especially once I added white caulk on the seams it looks great. As far as the cabinets if you do want to do contact paper I’ve used a hack of putting poster board over the indents then papering over for it to be a little easier. My renter kitchen looks almost identical so I’m excited to see the outcome!
I like the green if you go with a white countertop. The white tiles look better if you keep the dark counters, and will help brighten the space. Excited to see what you do here! You have the most innovative renter-friendly ideas!
I’m personally not a fan of the tiles you picked. The green might be best but only if you change countertops. Definitely like black cabinet handles. I did prefer the green inspired kitchen design😊. All your designs are always great, so I’m sure you will make it beautiful, whatever you choose. Can’t wait to see your final design reveal!😊♥️
I'm still going back and forth on the tiles too. I definitely want to change the counters and then I think it'll be easier to decide where to go from there!
My kitchen is similar to yours now. I have dark countertops, black appliances and natural cherry cabinets. The main difference is that we have a giant wall of windows. We just did a back splash in horizontal glass tiles that are a mix of green, brown and silver that are different sizes. We painted the kitchen the same color green as in the tiles. You might consider mixing the tiles instead of one color.
I like the green tile but it makes the space look smaller and only adds to the darkness of the space, which you are trying to get away from. With white cabinets,it would look awesome! I love the mood board. Just do all that. lol 😂
Great ideas! I'd leave the cabinets as is but add your black hardware. The marble patterned contact paper is a great idea for your counter tops. The white p/s tiles I really like! Can't wait to see your redo for the little breakfast bar area!
I think you should go with a light countertop and the green tiles. Then a wrap around texture of the "snack bar" area as you pointed out at the end, with a pendant light. Also, lighten up the rug you have in the space, and some warm strip lighting above the cabinets and under cabinet lighting. This will add some dimension and brightness in a warm way to the kitchen so it doesn't feel so cave like. Also change out the boob light. lol Great ideas, I can't wait to see it come together!
Thanks for the feedback! I've very excited for the snack bar area. That rug (it's from my last apartment and is too small) and that light definitely have to go. I feel like that alone will make a big difference!
Definitely try the marble contact paper. Either tile would be good. I love the black hardware and the idea of pendent lights. Can't wait to see the end result.
green tile, black hardware, cover counters with a heavy contact ( I have done that twice and will be doing it again. It holds up well. ( buy a bit extra in case you ruin a cutting.) Love the slats to upgrade the front of the seating counter, but be careful not to conflict with the accent wall you aready did. I was watching Joshua Alexander and he cut out a large wooden Pig to accent a bar area in a restaurant. So a large plywood cut out of some design could be effective there. I didn't get any idea you would paint the cabinets, but you could make wooden overlay designs and give them some personality. Another thing you could do , if you have somewhere to store some of the upper doors, remove the ones you see the most.-see from living room?? Add color ( contact paper, cut painted foam board-whatever to the back side of the cupboard and display some of your prettier dishes. It will open up the kitchen. I did this where I just moved from and did it on the cheap with loctite poster stickers and CHEAP dollar tree vinyl table cloths to line the shelf and back of the cabinet. Made for easy wipe down! If you do that suggestion, extension curtains rods can be used near the back of the cabinets to hold plates upright.( pretty) and creates space.
I'm definitely thinking I'd do something pretty simple, maybe add a pop of color instead of wood tone like in the rendering. Opening up cabinets is such a good idea!
Yeah... the issue is they tried to scam us right before move in. We signed on for this apartment, but then suddenly we were told we couldn't have it because they were going to renovate it. But we fought back because we didn't want the rent increase. So I think the complex ended up not fixing it up for us because their plans are to tear everything out once we move out
I like the green tile it’s pretty. The black pulls love them I’m thinking about getting some. Our kitchen is the same way it’s so outdated can’t wait to see what you do. Thank you for sharing have a nice weekend ❤
What an interesting idea….question: which video shows how to make the shelf rail in your bedroom?? I love the green for the backsplash sorry I keep editing!!! You know that beautiful green would look great on the design under the snack bar. It would look good from the living area and add color to the kitchen. Trying to match the cabinets would be more difficult
What if you made box frames to fit over the cabinet doors the handles and command strips to help them stay on! Or you might be able to find used cabinet doors to fit them at a habitat for humanity store! The cabinets could be two tone or cover somehow with removable wall paper!
I don’t get it…..it’s an apartment! It’s owned by someone else. The money sunk into this apartment could pay for a nicer apartment…..or maybe your own place.

Have to say again, I love what you did with your bedroom. Absolutely beautiful.
Please note peel and stick tiles WILL peel off the wall paint and drywall when removing… even w a hairdryer …. These days I use plain white contact paper as the first layer on the wall, then apply tile over that. Much less of a disaster to remove.
That's exactly my plan! I've seen too many disasters on TH-cam of people using them and they don't come off!
To avoid the burned area problem in the future, you could put real tiles in that area to put the hot pans onto.
I've seen a fridge wrapped in wallpaper and it was gorgeous!
I've seen that too and it looks so fun!
I would go with white tiles. Just not fan of green, but then it's your kitchen. Contact paper is very hard to work with. I wish you luck on that! The black cabinet pulls would look great.
What a fun project! I love the green tile. I can’t wait to see the finished project. 🥰😆

That ceiling light definitely HAS to go! Thanks for the input on the tiles/counters/hardware. That's all very help and things I need to consider!! 💜

Websites have more choices THAN (not THEN) stores.😊
If you decide to keep the countertops the way they are take some acrilic paint and you can faux paint the area that has a burn mark
That's so smart!!

Thank you!! I definitely needed a recommendation! There are so many to choose from on Amazon!
Love the green! It brings a bit of an outdoor feeling to the indoor space! You can always get a different shade of green if you want.
Oh yes!! I didn't even think of it that way! I love that especially since there is no window!
Love the green tiles and the contrast they provide with the wood tone of the cabinets.
Love the green tiles!!!! Really looking forward to this makeover.

That's definitely my fear with the green! I think it's pretty, but it might be too dark for this space.

Use wood pole wrap for the wrap around wood effect. I’ve seen other TH-cam diyers use small Brad nails to attach it to a floor cabinet .
Definitely try the marble contact paper. Either tile would be good. I love the black hardware and the idea of pendent lights. Can't wait to see the end result.

Definitely go with the black pulls.
Forget the bar stools. Add shelves there for decorative items and fancy glassware.
Also I never would have considered using fiver for interior design help. That’s genius!
shouldn't management/building owner replace the countertop that is damaged?
Most won't until you move, and even then some won't. I'm fact it may have already damaged when they moved in.

OMG! Tina Le on TH-cam did a renter friendly wrap for her kitchen island! That might help you when it comes to your breakfast bar/bar stools area!!
When I saw her do it I was like awww she beat me to it 😂 But no, I love everything Tina does!

Why don't you ask if you can paint the cabinets? Paint them white!! Then the green would go great since you love it.💜💜💜
They do have remote controled lightin now that doesn't need to be hard wired and they are rechargeable
Yes!! I would love to add some lights under the cabinets (and in a few other places too)
Do you have more content on your kitchen apartment updo?
Did you check with the landlord? There might be some ideas, materials, &/or cash [or a store account] that could be shared with you.
You're such a cutie patootie! Smart & beautiful design taste 😊
👍🏻
I don’t get it…..it’s an apartment! It’s owned by someone else. The money sunk into this apartment could pay for a nicer apartment…..or maybe your own place.
Everyone wants their home to feel comfortable and reflect their style. Whether it’s an apartment or house. I say go for it.
I think for some it could be a long time before you can get your own place so why not make it a place you love while you’re there.
