Zhen Huan as concubine/noble consort is fictionalized in C-drama Empresses in the Palace. As an empress-dowager we meet her in Ruyi's Royal Love and Story of Yanxi Palace. All three are fictionalized historical dramas.
Empresses in the palace/ the legend of zhen huan is my absolute favourite show and im always interested in the historical accuracy of these series. Great video!!!
Although Empresses in the Palace is a great series (I love it too btw) it is based on a novel set in the Song dynasty. Yeah, I was kinda disappointed too to know that the series had very little historical accuracy. But great performances - Ruyi's Royal love is also good. The actress playing Ruyi is phenomenal!
What’s interesting is in all three dramas (Xi Fèi, Ruyi, and Yanxi) Qianlong her son is alluded to being adopted. No official documents state so, but there’s no smoke without fire.
It was a common practice in the past to spread as if emperor to seem had questionable upbringing or heritage to weaken the legitimacy as an heir of throne, usually was done by opposite party.
Empress Ulanara- In both Ruyi and Zhen Huan She’s still alive and under house arrest when her husband the Emperor dies. In history she dies a full 4 years before this. She was much older than Consort Xi and Noble Consort Nian, that she could have been their mother lol. Noble Consort (Nian): aka Hua Fèi in Zhen Huan. In that drama she starts off as 4th ranked consort. In reality she was a 3rd ranked consort only behind the empress. She’s similar to Noble Consort Hui/Gao. Later promoted to imperial consort, dies a few days later. Consort Qi: Mother of the emperors oldest surviving son. History could have been very different if her son kept his mouth shut. But he didn’t and suffered the consequences. Was no longer considered for crown prince, it effected her standing in court too. After her son’s rebellion, she was never promoted higher. Between her and Consort Xi, Consort Qi would have been Considered the more senior Fèi. Consort Xi: In Zhen Huan she starts off very low in the harem, but as this video explains, she already has a high 4th ranked position, with Consort Qi. She bypasses Qi Fèi, and is promoted to Noble consort. The Empress dies a year later, and Xi Guifèi is put in charge of the inner court. Surprisingly, she is never promoted to Empress or even Imperial consort (which was common when the Empress died). Nonetheless because her son inherits the throne, she is honoured as Dowager Empress, which was a common practice, even if she was only a concubine. After her death she is recognised as an Empress.
the fact that so many dramas and books have been written about/around qianlong, especially modern ones, really goes to show how interesting his life was
I absolutely love your videos. I always had a interest in Chinese history and this was delightful to watch. It’s fascinating to realize that these are events that actually occurred before. Even with the uncertainty with some facts shown in the video it makes it more enjoyable in a sense. Sometimes I wish I can go back in time to see what really happened! I hope to see more videos
Consort Nian gave birth to Fu Hui before Kangxi died. She was pregnant with her third son, Fu Pei, when Kangxi died. Still an interesting video as there's not many about Chinese history in English. Love the legend bits about these characters but try not to read too much into them as legends are like the gossip magazines/ internet of nowadays.
You know what i want to know, what happens to the concubines and consorts, of emperor that dies. Do they leave the palace return home, or buy estates and resign there or become nuns?????
At 1:45 why does Emperor Yongzheng not have a traditional haircut like all other manchu males of fully shaved forehead? He looks like he has a modern 2021 haircut! LOOOOOL
I’m aware that the Haram cdrama’s I’ve watched have been fictitious. But I’m still quite shocked at how fictitious Empresses In The Palace is! It makes me wonder why the script writers changed Zhen Huans selection process. She was selected for the emperor in the series but historically she was selected when he was still crown prince. I think this makes a huge difference to the entire show because it’s as if Zhen Huan is freshly meeting the Empress whilst historically she’d already known the empress since she was a consort. I don’t understand why they changed this in the show. And also why the made Zhen Huan an adopted mother when historically she’s the biological mother
I read the Empress Dowager's life I'm confused if Hongli is her real son or not but according to history Qianlong Emperor was a biological son of Empress Dowager Chongqing.. Not sure
The legends about Hongli not being the son of Consort Xi or Emperor Yongzheng are just that... legends, none of it holds water. Like the legend of The Man in the Iron Mask or Anastasia Romanov... Even the stories are later proven groundless, people still enjoy talking about it, especially from entertainment standpoint.
History documents can be revised as Caesar will. The only way to know the exact and actual answer is by go back to the past, but that's impossible haha. By this video we knew that there's some differences from the history book in 2 reign dynasty (Yongzheng and Qianlong) about her Identity.
My favourite adaptation of her has to Empresses in the palace and yanxi palace shows her later years. They depict as a nice person but the schemes of palace had made her suspicious and raised the future emperor qianlong to be smart also
You just need to know that qianlong true love was empress Ula-Nara not consort wei she died as imperial noble consort never promoted to empress during qianlong reign

@@dirtyvibe3327 Are you talking about what you saw in the drama? This video is not about any drama, it’s about the real people that once lived. Dramas are loosely based on historical events but are largely still fictional works by web novel writers. 1) Ula Nara is not even her correct clan and Ruyi isn’t her real name. None of the consort’s personal names were even recorded. 2) Step Empress was not his true love childhood sweetheart like in the drama. She is 7 years younger than him. He got married at 16 years old in real life. 16 year old Hongli wanting to marry an 9 year old? That’s just weird and in any case she wouldn’t have been eligible for the selection process of a concubine at that time. 3) According to the historical records the closest he had to a true love was his first wife Empress Xiaoxianchun. He gave her total honor, respect and favor. Selected both her sons as his successors when they were only little kids, frequently wrote poems for her, promoted her entire family, was heartbroken after she passed on, disowned his eldest son for not respecting her burial, punished and executed officials who broke mourning protocol, kept her entire Changchun palace unchanged after her death as if she never left, wrote more poems for her even years after her passing and had her buried in his personal tomb right next to him. 4) Consort Ling couldn’t be an Empress, she was a Han Chinese with a lower social status. Empress positions during the Qing Dynasty was reserved for Manchu women and thereafter Mongol women too. The Manchus never viewed the Hans as their equals. She actually was elevated to Empress Xiaoyi by Qianlong in 1795 after announcing her son as his successor. She was the first and last Han woman to ever be granted the Empress title during the Qing dynasty.

Why not must Ula-Naraa became the empress Dowager 😅 .. the pure yellow banner and being an empress in the palace is the One of they glorry of Ula-Naraa Clan
In Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace Empress Ulanara outlived the emperor by a little while; however in history she actually predeceased him by several years. Emperor Yongzheng never promoted any of his consorts to be the next Empress
Ula-Nara became an Step Empress of Emperor Qianlong but, unfortunately, like her aunt the late empress she was disregard or overthrown by the Emperor because of jealousy (if I'm not mistaken?) She cut her hair infront of the Emperor which considered as a taboo of the Manchurian women. It's only allowed if there's is a national mourning.

That she lived to be 86 yrs old, and Qianlong to 88, implies that she could have passed on genes for very good health to her son.
DNA testing (for genetics) should be performed to clarify the background of the late Emperor QianLong.
Qianlong was not her real son, he was her adopted son. So there is no chance of passing genes!!
