Both Shin of the Hi Shin Army and Mouten of the Gaku Ka Army was sent to conquer Chu capital, with only 200K men against the advice of senior General Ousen, who propose 600K. After Shin failure, Ousen was sent with another senior general, Moubu, father of Mouten. They completed the conquest of Chu.

After watching this and the TV drama. The real hero was Buwei.
I'll show yall the TV show link after my short review.
Buwei is so wise. He want to spare those that lost the war and use them for farming and farming means no starvation. And now he just captured 5 cities from Zhao without waging war. I wish he work together with the young king (15 years old) instead of doing everything by himself.
Li si seem desperate to be relevant and he'll do anything to undermine Buwei long term strategy to unified the other states without large scale slaughters.
I remember watching Li si on King War. He picked the stupid crown prince and left the kinder prince to commit suicide at the boarder by using a fake edict because he only care about himself.
Li si death wasn't pleasant either after he got outplayed by an eunuch.
I forgot how Qin fall, but I remembered it was due to heavy taxes and the king was out of touch with it people.
Li Si didn't think long term like Buwei, such as looking out for the people.
I remember watching Kings War and the guy who plays BuWei also played Han Xin.
Han Xin advisor gave him a pretty good advice and that's to be the people person.
BuWei is now the people person, but Li si will help king changed that lol.
      Review on Ep 19
I hate how the show make those two women so dumb on this episode.
The empress had casually sex with anyone she wanted and the maid who served tea.
None of them bother giving credit for the Prime Minister Buwei brilliant plot to get prince Yi from Zhao to become a hostage to Qin on his own.
Not to mention tricking Zhao Prime Minister to return the once hostage Qin prince back to his native home with a simple rumor.
The show is trying to tell me how the Qin Dynasty didn't last long because of all the dumb people surrounding the king.
The empress and the maid can get their revenge once Zhao empire crumble due to infighting, but they want revenge now.
The other thing I didn't about how BuWei is the mind behind Qin being so strong. He is a master strategist that care for the people. He have long term strategies that require patience.
I feel like those 2 women and the King will ruined BuWei plan, a plan that will prevented mass scale slaughters from unification of China and how the people will be treated after the unification.
After watching King Wars, where the warlords raise up to rebel again Qin rule, I can't help by blame those impulsive and stupid who surrounded the king.
      Review on Ep 22
Rip Gan Luo, the boy genius who convinced the Zhou state to give up 5 cities without using a single soldiers.
The king killing him was unjust since they're both the same age, 15 years old. I sense jealousy and stupidity.
Li si on this episode feel like a traitor who sow discord between the prime Minister BuWei and the king.
Qin may accomplished a lot of things, but now I know it was mainly due to BuWei and his smart officials.
      Review on Ep 24
I feel like they just put any girl out there to be the king friend.
Just dress up a maid and you have a fair lady.
Update: the king mother is not very bright. She send her son gf back to Chu without realizing he's into her.
And she wonder why her son won't greet her return at the palace gate.
She and her son act rashly and easily falls into enemy trap.
      Review on ep 25
It feel so awkward to see the king fall in love with the lady from chu, where her father purposely throw her out to be trample by the king mount...
The king mother is worst, she should knowwho's behind that girl and she keep falling for the old lady trap.
Why can't they all get along? The lady from chu seem ok, but she's a victim being use by his evil father and grandmother to be their spy.

And the building of Linqu canal too, which is located in Xing'an County, near Guilin, in the northwestern corner of Guangxi, China. It connects the Xiang River (which flows north into the Yangtze) with the Li River (which flows south into the Gui River and Xijiang), and thus is part of a historical waterway between the Yangtze and the Pearl River Delta.
In 214 BC, Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of the Qin dynasty (221-206 BC), ordered the construction of a canal connecting the Xiang and the Li rivers, in order to attack the Baiyue tribes in the south. The architect who designed the canal was Shi Lu (Chinese: 史祿). It is the oldest contour canal in the world,[1] receiving its water from the Xiang. Its length reaches 36.4 km and it was fitted with thirty-seven flash locks by 825 AD and there is a clear description of pound locks in the twelfth century, which were probably installed in the tenth or eleventh century.[2] Its design also served water conservation by diverting up to a third of the flow of the Xiang to the Li.
It was built to supply foods and other goods for his troops in conquering the southern part of China and today's northern Vietnam.

Lu Buwei was one of the Qin loyalists who helped the establishment of the Qin empire. (But many of his methods were dishonorable and many of Ying's royal families disliked him)
Here is the catch, the main reason for his suicide might cause by Qin Shihuang want to centralize power on himself while Lu Buwei disagreed with this centralized plan and chose benevolence for the future citizens of the empire. (Qin's state tormented other states' citizens and used them as disposable slaves rather than upright citizens)
...Combine with Qin Shihuang's paranoid, Soon about-to-be emperor would want to dispose of this influential prime minister.
So the Qin emperor banished Lu Buwei to a faraway fief and forced him to commit suicide, so he could protect his family. (The popular method to dispose of political opponents and claimed the latter was sick or suicide out of shame)

Legalism was adopted by Qin far before the First Emperor took the throne. The video mentioned the Emperor used the power built up from past 6 generations. The reason Qin was able to build up her power is due to Shang Yang's Reformations, a significant event in Chinese civilization, in essence China today still is based on that Reformation. The First Emperor's ancestor Lord Xiao of Qin, in the year 356 BC (more than 100 years before the First Emperor) invited Shang Yang to Qin and Shang Yang put his Legalistic school of thought into full effect. In one generation, Shang Yang reformed Qin state from a backward feudal fiefdom into a centralized government and changed its culture from serfdom into a military powerhouse. You cannot understand modern China without studying Shang Yang Reformation in detail (the english wiki page is thoroughly inadequate).

    • @ReSV1
      @ReSV1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

And Li Si just took the Shang Yang reforms and "improved" it.
Though, it was too rushed. Qin's reforms after the unification was thought to be too rushed, as the rest of the 6 states (even though the rest of the 6 states had reforms similar to Shang Yang) that is why Qin was fragmented after he died relatively quickly.
Han Dynasty adopted and "fixed" Qin mistakes by mashing Legalism and fiefdom together. Hence it was able to endure 400 years

@@tsaqifqinurarif9325 Even the Manga creator claimed he wanted the manga to end at the beginning of the golden age of the Han Dynasty. It kinda fitting since the first Emperor of Han Dynasty, Gaozu or know as Liu Bang was literally a Shonen protagonist, originally he was a lazy scoundrel to a very poor farmer in the state of Chu, an unnoticed prison guard, but he had more powerful friends and great allies than Naruto and Goku with their friendnemies, he even tricked a noble to married himself a sexy wife, he do make a-lot of mistakes but win even more through sharp political mind and a very friendly charismatic Shonen like attitude, and had more plot armor and more intelligence than Ri Shin. But unfortunately he also an anti Shonen at the same time as he grownup he killed most of his allies to maintain power and refused to start a family until he was in his 40s or older but his wife the Empress are even more ruthless than he is, she ordered on his behalf to assassinated his most closest friend just to maintained their throne in China. Augustus maybe the greatest emperor of the Roman Empire because he already born into an aristocratic family, but it was Liu Bang define what it was to be a literal Shonen protagonist went from a unnoticeable friendly, care free dirt poor likable lazy ass with plenty of plot armor to the most powerful and important figure in the history of China. Hell even to this day the Chinese called themselves the Han Chinese in honor the former dynasty. This guy was both a Shonen at young age and Anti Shonen as well as he become older, why there is no manga or comic book about him it kinda ludicrous, Liu Bang could also make a great anime character since his personality are so likable.

Fun fact, the book by Han Fei, the Han Fei Zi, also makes mentions of comparing a monarch to a dragon; no matter how tight you are in relation to them, "inverting its special scale" (pissing them off) will earn devestating wrath. This is known as Nilin (Gekirin), and applies to a lot of East Asian mythological creatures with docile dispositions.
This is also where the names of Jam Kuradoberi's 214K move, Fei Long's Ultra Combo 2, Zhao Yun's Level 11 weapon in Japanese, the Pokemon move Outrage in Japanese and one of the techniques of C90's Kaku comes from.

Everyone here is mentioning a manga named Kingdom, I'm thinking of an old PC RPG named Prince of Qin where you play the role of Fu Su who decides upon receiving the fake edict ordering to commit suicide to go see his father to confirm the order. He finds out his father his dead, meets Liu Bang and gets pretty worried about fate of the Qin dynasty and... why did I stop playing that? Ah, yes, gameplay was unfortunately somewhat subpar, but I very much wants to go back and play it now.
Also want to go play some Romance of the Three Kingdoms as well...

    • @freycomm35
      @freycomm35 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

This video didn't fully explain Legalism. Legalism at the root is about having clear regulations for everything, and punishments for breaking the detailed laws. In essence, it is what modern legal system is all about. Comprehensive laws for every aspect of life, so people can have something solid to rely on when someone is not doing their job. It is about listing out the responsibilities for each positions and situations so when something goes wrong people know who to fault (starting to sound familiar now isn't it?) The Chinese thinks this kind of detailed laws are oppressive, because before China adopted Legalism (and after Qin dynasty). China used more of a constitutional approach to law with offenses be interpreted individually. For example, broad laws such as "do not kill, do not steal, do not do scams". But Legalism requires every little type of killing listed and each type's punishment set forth. Does it sound familiar now? China today, even though adopted the western style of laws, still don't really apply them to minor crimes (like brawling on the street, petty theft, domestic squabbles etc), because as aforementioned, Chinese culture thinks that kind of implementation is tyrannical. The ruler can control the nation, but not little aspects of people's lives.

One thing not mentioned was how proactive Qin was in promoting the family's welfare. Ying Zhen knew such a grand undertaking would take many years and as a result of the countless wars his population would be greatly diminished. Without being able to replenish his levies and future leaders capable of commanding those levies his reign would easily collapse under the weight of itself. So he greatly advanced technology, agriculture, culture, and also implemented policies that allowed talent to come up regardless of status.

Both of them were very skilled and had a very keen sight in both warfare and state politic.
The main reason Wang Jian chose to retire first was that he knew Ying Zheng's personality and if he was too honest and loyal he would be executed like BaiQi.
So before he marched the army to war. he will ask for the reward first [Qin's reward rule was the general could take the land he conquered in the name of Qin, But YingZheng and LiSi tried to abolish this rule for complete totality divine rule ].
