    Even now China doesn't have had any recent history of any female supreme leader and it's 2021! The very fact that Wu Zetian became an emperor in an age where women were literally ruled by men completely.... Is astounding. She must had been a powerhouse and increadibly clever, politically savvy and courageous. She must have had blew the patriarchs mind off. Respect for that woman🙌

    Her personal life was pretty messy as it paints her as a malicious woman with low moral values but she was a excellent administrator. She was very capable, she handled the country with ease and knew how to get rid of her political enemy. She led Tang Dynasty to its glorious period and her achievements aren’t less than any of her male contemporaries. However, how could the traditional historians accept that a woman could be so ambitious and successful? No wonder all of her achievements are not written in her tomb.

      I think she was a notorious lady emperor that her bad deeds surpassed her good deeds. That was why, I think, even her own son,couldn't extol her and had not written any words on her tomb. I think she would be on equal footing with emperor qinshihuang,although both had done great achievements to the country, were so despotics to be likeable

      @@Mrs.miriam I don’t think she can be soft and all too good or she might not have had those stands she had in her ambitions. She couldn’t have been all that bad. Some of her decisions might have been necessary to have a stand in a society that was ready to eat her up at any given chance. Tho I can see why her son hated her tho. She took his birth right from him. It’s all just messed up. But anyways I admire her. She is a strong woman. Ambitious, cruel or not. She made history. Even till date.

    In defense of Wu Zetian sacrifing her children it's a choice she must to because in ancient times most sons or prince would kill their parents to achieve the throne. One example Yuan Dynasty emperor husband to Empress Ki. His son and his wife planned something to get him out of power.
    Plus her sacrifice is worth it. Many woman in that era was given equality. They were able to do things only male could do. She appointed a female minister. The only dirt you can put to her is that she was a evil mother but in that era where your son would want to kill you just to get your thrones i might as well kill them first

    Here is a list of Chinese dynasties before I recommend some dramas based on different dynasties: Xia, Shang (Oracle Bones Scripts), Zhou (Western and Eastern Zhou), Spring-Autumn Period (where the Hundred Schools of Thoughts appeared, and Confucius and Lao Tzu, who founded Confucianism and Daoism, lived), Warring State Period (where seven kingdoms Qi, Chu, Han, Yan, Zhao, Wei, Qin fought for supremacy after the collapse of Zhou Dynasty), Qin (reunification and building of the Great Wall), Han (first golden age where Han Chinese character Hanzi and Han Chinese, the largest ethnic group in the world, got their name; opening of the Silk Road), Three Kingdoms (Northern Wei, Western Shu, Eastern Wu), Tang (where Japanese sent the most envoys to copy the Tang culture wholesale; second golden age), Song, Yuan (Mongol-ruled), Ming (Korean culture based a lot on this dynasty), Qing (Manchu-ruled).
    “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”, one of the four Chinese classics with the setting in the Three Kingdoms Period after Han Dynasty.
    “Virtuous Queen of Han” on the life of Wei Zifu, the Queen consort of Han Wudi, or Martial Emperor of Han Dynasty who opened the Silk Road and traded with the Roman Empire.
    “Legend of Chinese Empress” on the life of the only empress of China, Wu Zetian, in the Tang Dynasty.
    “Judge of Song Dynasty” on the life and work of Song Ci 宋慈, who wrote the world’s first forensic science book called Washing Away of Wrongs 洗冤录。
    Also check out a documentary called “Daming Palace and Tang Dynasty”. They briefly mentioned about the Japanese envoys kentoushi 遣唐使。
    History Channel did a series called Ancient Discoveries. Six episodes were devoted exclusively to Chinese inventions, which make up a long list.
    CCTV-6 China movie channel features a lot of Chinese historical dramas and documentaries.
    All of them on TH-cam. Enjoy. ❤

    • @lalalitalavista
      @lalalitalavista 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it may be due to the fact that there is a difference between how much power an emperor has compared to an empress dowager. One is ruling on their own right, whilst the other is a de facto ruler.

    • @Hamburger-vg7vt
      @Hamburger-vg7vt 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    • @lalalitalavista

      @@Hamburger-vg7vt Wu Zetian would technically have more power. Emperor's are recognised as the sovereign ruler of an empire, whilst dowagers were either placeholders until the emperor was old enough or to persuade behind the scenes.
      A really simple explanation would be that Emperor's usually have a more direct political influence, whilst Dowager Empress/Empress had a more 'discreet' approach
