    Great comparison...I would pick the Delica hands down.

  • @krazykat64

    I have to say I agree with your personal opinion at the end of the video. I own more than one example of both and have carried both and at the end of the day what keeps the Delica in my pocket more often than not is one thing - confidence. The way the Bugout feels in my hand just does not give me a sense of reliability the same way holding a Delica does. There are many who would say the Delica is ugly but it was designed to be practical rather than pretty, and that the design is “outdated “ but I prefer to think of it as tested and proven over MANY years of CQI tweaks. The reason it’s still in Spyderco’s catalog 30 years later is that it has shown it’s worth and they continue to sell by the bucketload to this day.

    Without watching, I will always go with a Spyderco. Simple, efficient, never fails. The iconic hole is perfect for flicking. It doesn't get much easier than that. I love me some benchmade. I have the bugout and adamas auto as well as spyderco para 2 and shaman. Always come back to the Para 2, now leaning more toward the Shaman in m4. It's simply perfection.

    I totally agree with you. the bugout won but I'd pick the delica too because I'm a Spyderco fan. I hate lockbacks but the spydie hole is easier to open for me and doesn't get in the way when sharpening

      Yeah, the stud on the Bugout gets in the way when you are "burying" the full length of the blade when slicing. It's also in the way when you want to quickly wipe the blade. The Axis mechanism on the scale is collection point for dirt and whatever you are slicing.

    This is one of the best, most thorough comparisons of two similar knives on TH-cam. There’s a lot of value for someone that finds carrying a knife beneficial but wants something better for their particular usage. Videos like this help those guys wade through all the statistics to end up with a few possible choices for their upgrade.
    You admit at the end that your “bias” is weighting durability over aesthetics given similar materials and blade performance. Ergonomics on your winner is also better for you.
    My suggestion if you’re open for it is to break down functional into a couple of categories like blade performance, durability and ergonomics. Maybe add in fit and finish. There’d be some thought because some design choices affect multiple categories. At the end show the big categories and explain your choice of knife as you did in this one.
    Your weighting should make the viewer start considering how they weight the different categories. Single knife reviews then have more value since each discussion point has a relative weight to it.

  • @Magnum5160
    @Magnum5160 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If I may, I think the race was narrower than the tally indicated and the individual categories should be weighted. If each category was given a score, maybe out of five or ten, then the blade with the higher total could actually have won fewer categories just by being much better in a few key ways, like value, ergos, and durability. Great content and thorough information on your channel. Thanks for all the help.

    I don't want to be "that guy" but the Bugout coating isn't DLC. It's a chromium nitride PVD coating. Not that it matters but I figured I'd let you know lol. Love your vids!

  • @jseden
    @jseden 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’ve carried a decent assortment of knives over the past 20+ years and I’ll admit that it largely comes to aesthetics for me.. I definitely prefer a hollow grind or a thinner blade with a full flat but beyond that, whatever knife I’ve been carrying has managed to cut whatever I need to.
    The delica is awesome and while I’ve bought a couple as gifts, I’ve never really carried one.. the dragonfly was alway a little more appealing to me and I’ve owned three.
    I’ve pretty much settle on a small crk these days but the mini bug out is pretty tempting.. I wouldn’t really consider myself a collector but I love a good knife.. however I’m generally pretty picky and only really buy things when they really catch my eye. Maybe one purchase per year when averaged out.. not counting gifts.. I’ve given at least 20 spyderco bugs and a couple delicas away over the past couple years.

    Bought my 3rd Delica recently and have never regretted any of them, I also own 2 Benchmade folders...a 940 and an AFO II, but when I leave the house, it's almost always the Delica that goes in my pocket. Personal preference is a big player in anyone's choice of EDC

    I just got the Aluminum handle bugout with the M390 blade today. Its pretty sweet. I might have got a delica but bass pro didn't carry those at my location and my gift card was from there. To me the one I got is almost a perfect knife. If I had the money myself I might have ordered a M390 delica and got titanium aftermarket scales. The aluminum handle is nice on my Benchmade but for $250 I would want titanium.

    I'm going with Bugout in this match-up. The only place it comes up short against the Delica is durability. But in an edc role, that doesn't really even factor in -- it's plenty rugged for that type of light/medium use. (yes, I do own one, I've put it through some harder use and it stood up to it)

  • @randyf.9188

    Axis vs lock back. No comparison as I hate two hand opening or closing operation. I also prefer the frn handles on the Bugout over the Delica. Delica is almost half the cost and I love knives with full flat grinds. This maybe a harder decision then I thought. Great TH-cam channel. Glad I found you. Keep up the good work

      No f way, the lw para 3 feel like a knife that wasnt finnished from design point of view. Having only one washer and half way liners on only one side?! WTF, it's impossible to get it to have no bladeplay. I can't believe Spyderco sent it out that way. I'm gonna sell mine.

    I've had the axis lock springs fail on me, and replaced them with my own. Despite now having my own more durable memory wire springs in it I just don't trust it anymore. I'll go delica 10 out of 10 times... The locjk is just to finicky.

      Same… had them fail on my bugout and 940 both after just 2 weeks. Then here recently once again on my 940. I don’t trust them anymore whatsoever. However if the axis lock was actually reliable I’d go with benchmade. But since I know I can’t trust it I don’t carry them anymore.

    I appreciate how you did this video. The bugout may have won more categories, you're not crazy. Different people value different categories differently. I personally would prefer the bugout, because I value carryability (weight, profile), ease of opening (axis lock ftw) and looks over value and durability. The thinness of the bugout doesn't concern me, and if I wanted a cheap knife I would get a Kershaw or CRKT over a spyderco. You're right, it does depend a lot on personal preference.

    Delica hands down

  • @vybtom1
    @vybtom1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I came to a point when I was deciding between these two knives and I was persuading myself to go for the Delica because it's less expensive. Before watching this it was like 60% for Delica and 40% for Bugout. After watching... Shit, the Bugout is back in game baby!! For me the important things are concealment, look and also this fidget thing.
    I don't like the clip of Spyderco - they're not deep carry and they're too long. For the look - Bugout was actually the first Benchmade knife that really caught my attention, I absolutely love the design. And as a fidget - BM wins all the way.
    Now when the Delica is out of the way, the last obstacle is the price itself of the Bugout. Once I'll get over it, I'll order it immediately.

    Delica is easier to take apart, but once they are both apart the Bugout is easier to put back together, getting that backlock together is ridiculous Nick Shabazz took down his Delica disassembly video because how crazy it is.

Locally I got a blue bugout 115 after tax the delica would’ve been 107. Bugout simply brings more and of your worried about the scales being weak upgrade to carbon fiber and forget all your troubles with a knife that’ll still weigh half an ounce lighter then the delica

      You can’t thumb flick it like an endura. You can’t cut an apple in half cause the blade is so short. The finger choil isn’t like a PM2. I like to fidget with my knives. I also bought a mini grip about the same time and don’t like it. I think I just prefer longer blades. I have a large grip and a 940 but I like how thin the bugout blade is.
