    I really love the blade shape of the Benchmade but can’t justify replacing the delica with it as the delica does everything better. From the Spydie hole to the jimping, to the rigidity of the frame to the sure textured grip. And all for nearly half the cost!

    I'm a Spyderco fan for sure. I've owned more of them than any other brand. Just simple and very well done. I've never had a problem with edge retention, but I've been sharpening my own knives since I was 11 years old.

    the only thing witch drives me towards to the delica is the omega spring . i saw too many feedback regarding broken springs on the benchmade . i own several spyderco and benchmade folders also carry them regularly no probs here but if i have to chose 1 folder for life that wouldn't be a n axis lock for sure

    This is ironically still a difficult comparison. I think for EDC the benchmade is the best due to the pocket clip, weight and steel. However the Delica is a sweet user, though I would get any steel other than the VG-10 since they have so many variants. The Delica is my favorite. I have a M4, hap40/sus410 and a 20CV version the last being a wharncliffe.

    Bugout is a nice looking knife but I love my BBS Delica M390. Had it Rockwell tested a while back and it hit for 61.4 and 61.8. Not that Benchmade misses the mark with HT but it just seems that Spyderco pretty much always gets it right. Love Spyderco for all the different steel options. I own knives from them in LC200N, CPM-M4, CPM-20CV, S30V, S35VN, AEB-L, M390, RWL-34, VG-10, 8CR13MOV and all of them perform very well.

    For years I hated only but a few Spyderco's and was a BenchMade guy. Somehow this past year I purchased the Yojimbo and loved it, then I purchased another Yojimbo. Now I have close to a dozen in my collection of over 75 knives. I also own 6 or 7 buyouts including the Gold Class version. Long story short, I know love both brands of knives but the Spyderco are always sharp and with BenchMade you never know how sharp the knife will be.

    I would choose the delica but that bugout is crispy with those handles! Personally for the price I would get the para 3 lightweight with bd1 steel! I’m in love with that little dude! Bd1 is awesome steel and very underrated. It’s better than vg-10 and at the same price point. Plus you get a deep carry wire clip that the original para 3 doesn’t have. They moved the lanyard hole over some to be able to carry deep which I respect. They all smart, great choices!

    Well, considering the way Benchmade runs its company and has zero respect for the majority of their core customer base, it's going to be Spyderco. Sal is a Patriot. Thank you. Also, I recalled something that happened many years back when Benchmade decided to discontinue all of their Made in China models and keep production solely in America. Many assume that patriotism and dedication to quality were the reasons. However, President of Benchmade, Les DeAsis publically told the Knife community that no, Patriotism had NOTHING at all to do with his decision.
      Went out of his way to make that statement. For some bizarre reason *THAT* was important to him. Honestly, why would you do that? Everyone who is part of your core customer base is assuming Patriotism. That right there is excellent publicity. Why would you destroy that assumption instead of simply letting it lead to increased sales over your competition?
      Nope! Even back during the 1990s, it was important to the executives in charge of Benchmade that the Public know the company doesn't give two hoots about America, about patriotism, or their core customer base.

    I have both. I have carried a delica for almost 17 years but I would say the bugout is better. That axis lock beats a lockback any day of the week. All my lockbacks have vertical play because repeated opening over the years grinds down the connections. That loss of steel create play in the lock up.

  • @bonesjones1658
    @bonesjones1658 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Both are a good build.
    I appreciate the Delica's rigidity and the quality feel it has.
    I appreciate the Bugout's lock design allowing it to be more minimalistic and light.
    With that being about equal, the Bugout would win because I like it's shape and ergos better. That's hugely important.
    However, they're not competing with Spyderco's variety of steel. They've made many flavors of the Bugout but none are what people want - a standard run with G10/CF/Etc and improved steel. They's done colors of FRN, they've done a Gold Class, and they did that super short run of 20cv that's now totally overpriced.

    • @forgethought8174
      @forgethought8174 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, well said.
      Spyderco's steel selection and heat treat are just hard to beat. Best you can do for a user bugout I'd say is probably m4. 20cv is great until you chip it or have to sharpen it. I'd love to see a Bugout with Magnacut, 3V, S90V, Rex45, there are so many possibilities.
      So many cool steels out there. Sometimes it feels like manufacturers get lost in a sea of S30V and m390/20cv.

    I have both the Red Battlewash Bug Out and the Delica. I own the M390 Delica which was about the same price as the Battlewash Bug Out. I carry the Delica more. Why? The Delica is quite a bit more secure in hand. I have XL hands and opening, closing and manipulation of the knife is easier with the Delica. The Red Battlewash takes the ribbon for looks, however. It may be the best looking knife in my collection.

  • @Pmike404

    Both are good knives but I prefer the bugout more. For those complaining about plastic I swapped the scales on both.
    Ended up getting aluminum scales for my delica and it feel incredibly strong with the back lock. Personally I’m just not a huge fan of two handed opening knives.
    Put some marbled carbon fiber scales on my bugout and gold titanium screws and it looks really good and is very solid to boot.
    Realistically I just prefer blade shape, blade thickness, and blade steel of the bugout over the delicas

    • @TheGamerGuy1981

      Problem is those are all heavier than the bugout, require an aftermarket clip as the delica is terrible clip wise and are sprint run limited editions so are long sold out for the average buyer. Delica is also much wider in the pocket, and has a boring lockback locking system and a warranty that can't compare.

    Carried a delica for >10 years (mixed in with a couple other blades). Very robust for the weight (used it to baton wood in a pinch once to get a fire started in the rain) and holds and edge very well for mid-tier steel. One downside is I do prefer a deeper carry option as I wear a knife when working out/swimming. Price is right you won’t be too precious with it so it gets ton of use and abuse and keeps coming back for more.

    Your brand bias is showing. 'Bugout thumb flicks open more easily'? BS. I have both and can thumb flick OR Spydie flick (middle finger) the Delica as fast or faster than the Bugout. Bugout feels cheap. I refused to even carry it until I put titanium scales on it. Now its a good knife. I carried the Delica (and Endura) for decades and they served me very, very well.

    What about the Honey Badger? Great knife for the price point. The action is smoother, the knife is superb. Despite the lower quality steel, the knife is consistently my EDC over more expensive options. It's so light weight and it's so deep pocket it's often my go to option.

  • @robertlopez6276

    After putting G-10 scales on the Bug out, the choice becomes relatively clear… own both! But the Bugout, overall is a clear winner, it’s featherweight, higher quality steel, and it’s flippy as hell… the action on the Bugout is amazing, and still surprises me just how smooth it can be… the Delica is a hardy, robust knife for its size but it’s very slow moving… dare I say outdated with the back lock? But still, the Delica wins big in almost every way… I take the Delica camping and fishing more than the Bugout but that’s just because I’d be more sad if I dropped the Bugout in the drink 😂

      I wouldn't just look at price alone. The bugout is a great knife and comes with a better warranty and lifesharp and s30v and an axis lock vs back lock. Not saying that should sway you, just that only looking at materials and price isn't everything. I like my delica more than my bugout, but $75 (or whatever) for a delica is asking a lot. • @nebulamask81
      @nebulamask81 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Better" steel depends on what you're looking for. VG10 is easier to maintain and doesn't need specialized equipment vs s30v where you want diamonds to help cut through those very hard carbides. I find that Spyderco's VG10 is really good at stropping back to life over and over, vs s30v that lasts longer, but doesn't strop back as well, esp. with just a standard green strop. I find myself needing to actually sharpen s30v and VG10 about as often as each other even with diamond strop compounds being used on s30v... but s30v takes more work when it comes time for sharpening. VG10 is also more rust resistant than s30v. At the same time if you want to just have longer period of time in between any edge maintenance, then s30v is the way to go.

      While I agree VG10 is easier to sharpen than S30V, I respectfully disagree S30V is difficult to sharpen and requires diamond stones. We're not talking S90V or S110v. I can easily sharpen my S30V blades using regular stones. But, I do realize if you factor sharpening skill into the equation, a softer steel will always be easier to sharpen than those with better edge retention.

    • @tonym5093
      @tonym5093 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DontBotherNone s30v definitely doesn’t need diamond stones to sharpen. Anything that will sharpen VG10 will also sharpen S30v just fine.

    • @nebulamask81
      @nebulamask81 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Either you two and I disagree on what "sharp" is or you're extremely good at sharpening. It's difficult to cleanly cut through those hard carbides with softer stones. The results I've always seen without using diamonds are on par with "meh" factory edges with less edge retention than if you used diamonds. At that point you're not getting what you're paying for out of s30v and putting in more work, so it's not worth it and you may as well be using a different less expensive steel that's going to take less work and give better overall results.

    The Axis Lock unfortunately makes the Bugout a gravity knife, so it would be illegal to carry in many places.

    • @newhuskytwenty
      @newhuskytwenty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you European? Even in the doomed Spain any gravity and spring-assisted pocket knives are legal as long as their blades are not longer than eleven centimeters, only are forbidden the automatic models whichever the lenght of their blades.
      In the near U.K. and France any locking folding blade is illegal so it is indifferent an automatic, gravity, spring-assisted or just locking blade knife, both the Bugout and the Delica are forbidden to be carried outdoors.

      You abuse your knives? Can you sharpen? Benchmade has a killer warranty + lifesharp. Spyderco has a standard warranty. That can make it an easy choice for some people, but not others. Just depends on what you value and how much you value it.

    • @ponchowizard5182
      @ponchowizard5182 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nebulamask81 I don't abuse them and I enjoy sharpening them. Craftsman has a lifetime warranty on their tools and I don't have to pay 100+ for one of their wrench sets. Plenty of other companies offer a free lifetime warranty also, without overinflating the price.
