Your videos are a pure pleasure to watch. Thank you for bring us along on the project. We have very few woods here in the US that are suitable for chasing. As such, frankly, I didn't know that walnut could be reliably used for hand chasing. Great info...thanks for that too.

Ronald, I have watched several thread chasing videos. Yours is the most complete, and sometimes funny. Like, "if your chaser hits the bottom of your work, you might screw up"!? Your technique is excellent. Your TH-cam presentational the tine is The Best! Your photographer, is also quite professional, and funny too. If you need to get out of the Netherlands for a holiday in California, let me and my wife know. You are a great TH-cam friend!!

Truly fantastic video. I am a new (2 weeks) Robust owner, but must apologize for not purchasing their Dutch Beauty! LOL... I only got the American Beauty model. OK.... off to find a bit of steel to make that box scraper and the back-cut tool. Thank you, again.

My biggest worry with hand chasing the threads is thinking that I may cut the threads uneven/unparallel. That would make for a lid that didn't fit right. Have to try it some time. An acorn is what the Baxter threading jig set up uses as an example of how to machine cut threads. No help for lining up the grain.... I do keep an electric toothbrush head, with magnets, on the lathe when cutting threads. A couple of drops on it and it lubricates and cleans out the swarf from the threads. We think alike that way....
Completely enjoying your videos. I appreciate your skill, your style, and your choice of projects. And wow, what high production values! Excellent for instruction and for entertainment. Thread chasing is always fun, especially when it goes well, but that very challenging first scratch gets me sometimes. Hate to admit how many times my box had to get a bit smaller! Great suggestion to find your speed and stick with it.

Lies probably would do a good job, but me holding the camera would make it a disaster...😅

Hiya, what oil did you use on the threads? It looked like sewing machine oil.
Could i use a fine wax? Like Renaisance wax?

Hi Deb, it can basicly can be any kind of oil. It has to penetrate the wood, so a wax will not work.. Grtz Ronald
