To someone like me that doesn’t have much money, $4000 is a fortune. I live in the UK and I paid £1400 for a year 2000 FZS600 and that was all I could afford. £2000 upwards is an unattainable dream. I think you need to reassess what constitutes “dirt cheap”. To me, dirt cheap is £500. 🤷🏻♂️
That's an expensive hoe!! Joke aside, for 500 u need to know how to fix stuff! Which will cost money, so just keep saving and get a cheap old good one!
I had a 2006 GSXR 1000 I bought new with suspension, -1 +1 520 chain, 190/60/17 rear tire, Akro Evo 2 system, Vortex rear sets, GPR steering stabilizer, HH pads and GP brakes lines that made 167.8 hp at the tire and got the weight down to 414lbs in 2007. I've ridden newer bikes since and it was my favorite bike I've ever ridden. Had I kept it I would have done BST CF wheels, ported and polished head, cams, Brembo MC and gotten more serious about removing weight. God I loved that bike
I have an ‘03 CBR954RR that I picked up for $3k. ‘Dated looks’ maybe to people who keep up with bikes. To Normies on the street, they think my bike is new (she looks almost new) The bike rips and runs silky smooth. The handling is something I still can’t quite believe. It’s soooo Damn Good

Yes, a 20 year old liter bike that was known in its day as the "widowmaker" due to its unpredictable handling and instability at high speeds, a great recommendation especially for someone watching this looking for their first big bike, what could go wrong lol
@@BigUriel I think you should read up on the bike. The widowmaker was the tl1000s which used a rotary damper not on the TL1000R. The tl1000s also has a different frame then the tl1000r. The unpredictable of the TL1000S came from its rotary damper and the rear shock. When you cook the rear shock and the rear wheel won’t have much traction, which can easily put you on your ass when you overpower the tire with the abundant torque of the V-twin. You can do this on most liter bikes. If you're getting into a liter bike and don't understand the amount of torque you have on your hands, then maybe stick to a 600cc or lower.
@@kasper79Actually the R had the rotary dampener as well as the S. The S got branded the widow maker because of their propensity to go full tank slap at a moments notice, which is why Suzuki immediately installed the steering damper after numerous test riders were killed.

6:35 "across the pond" refers to across the Atlantic. If you cross the Atlantic you still have to cross the Amerias and then cross the Pacific as well.
In 1999 we were told there was be big numbers on the 600 so I rushed down to my news stand there was a shootout for all the 600 from Japan I don't remember which one it was but very tall thick numbers on the front of the magazine was 197 mile per hour top end and the slowest bike was about 193
1998-2004 Honda vtr1000f super hawk. Now have 2 in the stable. Both in mint condition, both picked up for $3500, and both with less than 15k miles. Top speed 160, and v twin noises. Love them super chickens.
Used VFRs are generally pretty cheap, and built to last. The old CBR600F kind of fits the definition of "sports touring" by modern standards, even though it was supposed to be a sports bike back in that day. The Yamaha YZF-600R can also be had for next to nothing.
Wim Benschop I came here to post it. Glad you already did. 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. I think there’s only one bike in the list in this video that is faster.

@@racerguy3972 its geometry definitely makes it very wheelie prone and a without a stabilizer headshakey. Its very easy to unload the front suspension at very high speeds. That being said it was still a lovely bike.
@@tractorboyracer9165 Why ?, I have a gixxer 1000 K6 and Bandit 600 2004 and I always really liked this first generation of kawasaki and all the media around it
@@racerguy3972 because it wheelies out of just about every corner it takes. Wheelies on the power even at high speeds and shakes its head at every opportunity. Nothing like a tank slapper at 130mph. Also pushed my contacts around my eyeballs even with the visor down lol. I think kawasaki just wanted to be fastest at that point and blow the user friendly side. It was fun but you have to admit it was bloody mental, certainly wasn't a bike for amateurs imho.
Just seems like yesterday that I was drooling at these bikes, but I didn't have the money. Now they are considered dated? I still love the rounded look of the older bikes. I'm retro and the styling and performance of the GSX R1000 is more than enough bike for the fastest of the so called modern day squid riders. Even today I would contest that the old liter bikes are way too much power for the streets. They really were designed to be track weapons. I first learned how to ride on a 75 Honda CB 350 back in 79. I then bought a Honda Hawk 450T new in 82 and rode that bike for over 10 years without one problem. I had a lot of fun and good memories on this motorcycle. Was it under powered? Yeah. Was it too small for my 6' 2" frame? Okay. Was it difficult to hang with a GPz 550 Kawasaki in the long straights? Indeed. Could I work on it and keep it tuned with standard household tools? Yes! Did it have outstanding gas mileage? Yep-54 city/62 Hwy. Did I really need a Honda 750 Interceptor? No. Did I want one? Yes. You get the idea by now right? Cheers fellow motorcyclists...keep the rubber on the road!
None the less, the year/value of the bike also plays a great deal with insurance quotes such as comprehensive. Comprehensive would've costed an extra $100/month on my 2014 Yamaha R1 since it's "the" bike people steal. And full coverage, my insurance agent said and I quote "You don't want to know" and said to call back in a couple of months when I turn 25 to get dramatically better rates. The very words "sport" or "supsport" are trigger words for insurance companies. I had liability, medical and comprehensive on my R6 for 3 years, but for now I'm just going with liability and medical on the R1. Don't park your bike in stupid places, and if you want a fast bike, get a fast non-sportbike such as a cheap FZ1, GSX-S1000.
@@nuckenfutz9983I have no idea what insurance rates are like there. I live in Canada. Ontario, specifically. We get hosed out the nose. I'm 42, been riding since 2006, and my insurance for a 2014 Yamaha Bolt was $945/yr. That's with my 10% discount through my employer!! That's still considered a good deal!!!! My buddy had a CBR1000RR and his rate was around 2 grand. It's fucking bullshit here.
@@shahfacekillah Yea insurance rates here sound just as bad. I was quoted for a 2007 GSXR-1000 back in the day, and they wanted $345/month for full coverage. Given, I was more inexperienced back then, yet I have a perfect driving record. Still $345. My friend has full coverage on his 16 GSX-S1000F, and he pays about $150/month. 25 yrs old, been riding for 1 year, no tickets, etc. His being considered a "standard" bike helps alot. Power is equal to my 05 R6 at medium-high speeds. And low speeds, the GSX-S1000 is slightly quicker. I was the type who wanted the 1000 sport, but couldn't afford to buy outright nor the full coverage insurance. So I substituted by getting a relatively modern 600 sport which surprisingly subdued my desire for the R1 (the 05 R6 Raven) for a steal of a price. Paid $2700 for a $4000 bike in near perfect condition with extras. Fast forward to the present I finally bought my dream bike outright just to realize I'm really going to miss the R6 because of how good it was to me, and just how different the R6 and R1 are.
Tip. Never use a black or brown wallet. Bright colors are easier to find. Weather just in the bottom of a gym bag or in a field at night. You're welcome.
I just got an R6 for a grand. 25,ooo miles. It needed brakes and valve adjustment. I'm selling my 98 zx9r for $2,500. 18,ooo miles. Runs good. New battery. Barely broken in tires. Brand new body kit and windscreen. New billet rear sets. Mint all titanium exhaust and a few other goodies. Deals are out there, but you have to get to them before someone else does.

Dont see too many around anymore but don't think I'll part with it. Bit older and heavier by todays standard and no electronic aids but im still always at the front of the pack.
My first sports bike was brand new 1993 yamaha fzr600 when I was 23years old. I got busted when my dad found out I bought the bike. I parked it in my friends house and when I went home my dad held the little license plate..😄
Just bought a 2001 Speed Triple for 2200. A fine bike, and I agree, nothing better than a triple cylinder!
05 ninja zx10r famously known as the widow maker 2500-4500, that probably deserves the number 1 spot
Hell yeah
Top speed
Got my ZX9R 99 model for $4190 AUD from a dealership a year ago with 32,000 k's on the clock, Inc warranty etc. It's great, and is a fantastic second bike 😍
The good old V-MAX I used to have a poster when it first came out it was eating the pavement at 140 hp in the 80’s
My Bandit 1200S. Tourqey and comfy. $1500 and came with new Michelins, custom seat, and fabulously sounding Yoshi exhaust.
Suzuki Bandit 1200. I got mine for $1800
Haha poooorrrr
Exo Exo stoney broke. 🤷🏻♂️
That's an expensive hoe!! Joke aside, for 500 u need to know how to fix stuff! Which will cost money, so just keep saving and get a cheap old good one!
4000 dollars 😂 come to India and get super bikes for 2000 dollars 😂
Honda 954 was a MONSTER!
There is only ONE aprilia id ever buy and that’s the rs250… the rest can all bl0w it underwater till it gets dry.
I remember when the liter bike wars started because I was actually just a kid but holy crap was that decade faster than hell Newbee
I have an ‘03 CBR954RR that I picked up for $3k.
‘Dated looks’ maybe to people who keep up with bikes. To Normies on the street, they think my bike is new (she looks almost new)
The bike rips and runs silky smooth.
The handling is something I still can’t quite believe.
It’s soooo

Endless comments on my 94 zx-9r.... 173mph still scoots people think it's anew motorcycle they never seen before lol ..

Last year I got myself a Gsxr 1000 k5. But it just has 180hp and not 200hp. It is still a BEAST if you consider it just weights 166kg 😍
Bet you paid more than 2500$
You left out the beast!!!...this bike is under most riders radar(including all bike reviewers)... the 2004-2008 BMW K1200S(1200cc)...167HP and 95ft/lbs torque!!! 176mph top speed...can be found for $2500-4000...i got mine with all the bells n whistles for $3800 and only 12,000 miles on her...its a BEAST!! 3500-11,000 RPM Pulling like a freight train beast!!
Suzuki tl1000r. 996 cc, 4-stroke, V-twin, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8-valve, 135 hp at 9500 rpm, 78 ft·lbs at 7500 rpm, 165 mph top speed.....got my 2000 TL1000r for $1500
Yes, a 20 year old liter bike that was known in its day as the "widowmaker" due to its unpredictable handling and instability at high speeds, a great recommendation especially for someone watching this looking for their first big bike, what could go wrong lol
Tl1000r now your talking!!!! I'd luv to park that next to my 87 gsxr 1100!
@@kasper79Actually the R had the rotary dampener as well as the S. The S got branded the widow maker because of their propensity to go full tank slap at a moments notice, which is why Suzuki immediately installed the steering damper after numerous test riders were killed.
Hey Yammie's editor, could you please add metric value's next time too?. It would really be helpful for us EU guys.
This channel only uses freedom measurement systems
@@tempestandacomputer6951 "freedom" hahaha lol good one
Honestly i’m suprised the US still manages to operate with the ‘it’s about this much’ Imperial system. Join the superior metric system already.
Best all around cheap bike, and best value is: Honda Superhawk.
I used to day dream in high school about the new 05 blue/white gixxer 1000.
I could never call it old-school!
954rr = legendary, after having had an S1krr, Gixxer 750, 636, and many other bikes I can say a 954 is still one of my favorite motorcycles and always puts a smile on my face!
1:04 I had that exact beast. Same paint and all. Thing was unreal. I can’t imagine today’s bikes.
My o1 gsxr1k More then any human needs.
Awesome list,
I would have liked to have seen the Blackbird, TL1, and RC51 make it up there. I owned all three of them for right around the 3k mark and all three were insanely rowdy
Love my tl1000r
How you could NOT have a kawa zx12r of early 2000's is beyond me. Still a killa!
I have a 05 gixxer 1000 purchased new. 199 hp from factory I dont believe so. I dynoed 165 to the rear wheel with filter and slip on. Dont think it makes 199. Please correct me if I am wrong
I had new 98 zx9r and new 02 954.
The 954 was by far the better bike. Though it was a pain to work on and the cams wore very early.
ZX12R. You can find them pretty cheap in the right condition.
I'll never get rid of mine.
Yes! I have 2 of them before the restrictions 2000 & 2001 very fun and fast as hell 💨
Mine was £2000 and 17k miles
zx12, zx14, First gen busa. More modern r1. 954 and 929 and pretty much any 1000 cc bike from the the big top 4 under 2006 can be had for under 4k.
Dont think you will find a 996 for under 4k unless it hit something at it's top speed

What'd you get?
Yeah what'd you get boi?
Congrats
Answer us, what'd you get??
I love my 2003 fireblade. Just went down at 45mph riding it when I had to avoid getting t-boned by an F-250 and the old Honda bounced back like nothing happened. Also needed on the list are the Suzuki TL1000R and the early 2000s FZ1
6:35 "across the pond" refers to across the Atlantic. If you cross the Atlantic you still have to cross the Amerias and then cross the Pacific as well.

Picked up my Super Blackbird a year ago for £3000 and will comfortably do 180mph plus and is super reliable and a great alrounder
Loved the video, could you do a 600cc version?
Gayyyyy
In 1999 we were told there was be big numbers on the 600 so I rushed down to my news stand there was a shootout for all the 600 from Japan I don't remember which one it was but very tall thick numbers on the front of the magazine was 197 mile per hour top end and the slowest bike was about 193
1998-2004 Honda vtr1000f super hawk. Now have 2 in the stable. Both in mint condition, both picked up for $3500, and both with less than 15k miles. Top speed 160, and v twin noises. Love them super chickens.
You found one of the unicorns…
I'd love to see an episode on Sport Touring bikes.
Used VFRs are generally pretty cheap, and built to last. The old CBR600F kind of fits the definition of "sports touring" by modern standards, even though it was supposed to be a sports bike back in that day.
The Yamaha YZF-600R can also be had for next to nothing.
VERY THOROUGH with top speed, acceleration and everything. Nice work, man.
I'm getting a Twin Turbo Busa....OKAY!
Supercharge it! Keep the turbo! Lose ur license in 1.6 seconds!
I know someone who got a 2004 fireblade for 2k
Only 6k miles
Needed new tires and stuff here and there but super nice deal
Honda CBR 1100 Blackbird... dirty cheap and insanely fast
I found a CBX 1050 (yeah the one that sounds amazing) for sale here for like 6000 euro
Wim Benschop I came here to post it. Glad you already did. 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. I think there’s only one bike in the list in this video that is faster.
Pretty sure that was the fastest production motorcycle in the world before the Busa, right?
Yes

The 2005 Gixxer was all-new. You made it sound like it was an improved 2003.
@Dio Black So true. I used to own one.
Yeah, and the price is a bit steeper on the 05/06 models. They know what they got.

1st gen zx10r, it's not called the widowmaker for nothing
2004? Why is called the widowmaker ? the bike looks well balanced
@@racerguy3972 its geometry definitely makes it very wheelie prone and a without a stabilizer headshakey. Its very easy to unload the front suspension at very high speeds. That being said it was still a lovely bike.
One of the mentalist bikes I have ever ridden.
Unfortunately, to insurance companies, a liter bike is a liter bike, regardless of age.
@@nuckenfutz9983 just curious, what country are you in?
@@shahfacekillah Good 'ol US of A
@@nuckenfutz9983I have no idea what insurance rates are like there.
