Thank you so much! This was an extremely helpful video! We have a small 24 acre farm & want to raise some broilers but the processing has been a big hang up. With your video I think you have filled in all the missing pieces.
You are doing a great job of showing people who don't know how to do this how to do it. I think it is a good thing by you teaching people how to do this.
My Mamaw used to make homemade fried chicken from scratch. I’d kill to have a chance to taste it since she died when I was little. She’d kill them a little differently tho she’d get the chicken by the head and twirl it around like a towel and that break their neck
People buying chicken at the store or at KFC have no business finding fault with anything in this video. They think the chicken they ate was coddled at the end like a family pet! This is real life. No chicken for the dinner table without killing birds. No guilt applies! My Husky snaps drumstick bones like I'd snap a twig.
Can't tell if Cynthia is having a good time or not 😃looks like she's ready to throw it out the tent 😅 Wish my grandmother had this equipment. She had 9 sons, you can imagine the chickens she had to defeather! Good video very helpful 🙂
I used a pair of heat resistant gloves and hold the chicken under the water then when it goes threw the plucker it takes all the skin off of the feet great video
Having worked in a processing plant and running the evisceration department, I would like to point out a couple things that I think could help. First, you will get a better bleed if cut the arteries in the neck without severing the spine. 2. if the skin tears in the picker your water is too hot or you scalded too long. Lower temperature for a longer time is better.
We get chicken gizzards and boil them in salt water. It makes them a little less tough. Tasty. Thanks for the video. They have some great equipment. We have been using a feed sack with a hole in the corner instead of a cone. I really like the plucking machine.
Good morning Micah. What a great educational/ training video Micah. You managed to show the whole process and did it respectfully. Thanks for sharing. Stay happy, healthy, hydrated and safe. May God continue to bless you, your family and your adventures.
Growing up gizzards were so tough when mom cooked them they were hardly eatable. Then she learned to cook them in a crockpot for 3-4 hours. They come out tender and full of flavor. Now the are one of my favorite cuts of chicken. You can still fry them after the crockpot cooking but I don’t bother. Try them slow cooked I think you will change your mind.
You did an awesome job on the video ! Those chicken pluckers make it nice . I can't say I have ever butchered any of the chickens we had . Thanks for sharing and have a great day !

I still remember the first time that I saw chickens being processed. My daddy took me with him to a friend and co-worker of his, Mr Burkhalter, who was butchering some of his chickens. He had a pot of water over a small open fire somewhat next to a stump. He'd grab a chicken and hold it on the stump and chop off the head with an ax. When the bird settled down he'd dunk it in the water and process from there. I still remember one chicken got loose and flopped around and got under an out building close to where the processing was being done. Mr Burkhalter got a straightened out wire clothes hanger and bent a hook on one end and got on his hands and knees (and looked like his shoulders too! 😂) and "hooked" the chicken and pulled it out. To a kid that was surprising and funny and the first time I remember hearing "flopping around like a chicken with his head chopped off!". I was probably only about 4 or 5 years old. That has stuck with me all these years. I'm going on 69 now. I've processed a few chickens of my own since then. Even though I no longer have chickens I still want me one of those pluckers! 😆. Also, I love dinner fried chicken hearts, livers and gizzards! Hearts and gizzards are very good stewed as well! Thanks for this video!
