Hello, as a Spirit owner and formerly the Company’s Public Relations Manager in the 1970s, I thank you for the excellent piece. We always advised people use the armrests and guide the car rather than steer it with ‘ ten to two’ hands.
This car is sheer class... No corners were cut to produce this car... I have had the pleasure of being in one of these... The first thing you notice is how quiet they are... No road noise ..No noise from the tires. This is the ultimate in luxury.
This is a car that still rocks today. Class never goes out of fashion. When you bought one of these you'd never need another car. If I owned one of these I'd invite visitors to the car instead of my home.
I’m 23 and have owned my 1981 Spirit for over a year now - cost me about £800 ex fuel etc for the year - some of which deferred maintenance from the previous owner. To me if you have a car like this, you enjoy putting fuel in it! Smiles per miles, if you are bothered by the fuel gauge not the car for you…
I’ve owned two, an 86 Spirit for three years and for the last eight years a 1990 Spur 2. It is possible to run a Rolls-Royce on a budget. Some guys buy season tickets to football teams. I drive my Royce.
Brilliant day and lighting to showcase the leather trimmed interior in best light . These things are old. But imposing. Quite a thing. Almost more than a car???
I truly hope you would give ur boi a proper ride when my thumbs out & luck down, Ohh the conversations on the way to redemption, thanks mate ur the best 👌
The Silver Spirit Rolls_Royce to go for,if you can find one. Is the last of line very rare mark IV version. The absolute very best of the best. Produced between 1996 - 1997. Only 146 were made !..
Hooper & Co Coachbuilder took a 1989 Silver Spur and spent 2 years transforming it to the sold 40 inch longer 4 inch higher Hopper Rolls-Royce Emperor State Landaulette - limousine / convertible. I was the chauffeur of a year in Australia in 1993 when it did a tour of the Motor Shows and charity events. Total of 5,380 road mile plus shipment by container to Brisbane, Melbourne & Perth motor shows... awesome machine.
@@RetroRatchet The Landaulette was based on their Emperor closed limousine of which approximately 8 were built. The Landaulette was UKst 325,000 pounds without VAT - including the 'donor' Spur at st79,000. I did the RR/Bentley Chauffeur's Course in 1990 at the RR School of Instruction at Crewe. My transport to Crewe was my new Paris delivery RHD Citroen 2CV6 Charleston which matched the Landaulette colours of black & burgundy. The 2CV also came to Australia. The Landaulette second home was the Island of Guernsey before new ownership in the USA as part of the Calumet collection in California.
Nice one Chris 👍 Most of us have wondered about a car like this. Should I buy it? 😅 No! The attention to detail is astounding which is expected of this car at the time of its launch. One of my questions is, ‘Who actually owned these magnificent machines? ‘ Imagine the elites that are looking for their car that they bought when they were young’ 👍
Eight carefully matched hides. Citroën hydropneumatic suspension on the rear only. A BX had the same all round! That A/C compressor is bigger than the engine on my first car!!! 😂
Ex father in law had one, it almost ruined him until he eventually sold it. Everytime he went near it a pipe burst or a bit of trim fell off (it wasnt a banger, he paid top dollar for a good one) The specialist he used in Edinburgh often served him up bills in the thousands lol. I drove it once, i didnt like it, windscreen was to narrow for my tastes, kinda felt awkward to drive.
Cigarette lighter? No no no, young man. A Rolls has a cigar lighter. Lovely car but I've always hated the digital clock. Tacky. I want a real clock. Also, take care of that grille. Looks like someone polished it with a knife and fork.

I have always loved these cars. The Silver Spirit was always understated and classy.
can't beat them in terms of luxury

All the corners are definitely on it. But it’s a real Rolls!

Terrific report.

I'll never know how them Brits did it, but they made Rollsies so understated, that they were ACTUALLY orgasmically overstated.
Yes. Agreed. My only old Roller bought and sold in the motor trade remember the skinny skinny wheel. I too thought odd. Must be a Roller thing !!!!
The best rolls royce!
I truly hope you would give ur boi a proper ride when my thumbs out & luck down, Ohh the conversations on the way to redemption, thanks mate ur the best 👌

Very smart. A Spirit is a great first Rolls Royce.

Nice colour. I would buy it to park it in my drive and impress the neighbours.

No ridiculous huge computer screen, thumbs up.
I know, I dislike them also

wow that's a lot of leather
I’m surprised there is no logo or decoration in the middle of the steering wheel. Maybe it was meant to be that understated.
yeah really thought it was out of place
Jaguar: "Were we a joke to you?!"
Rest of the world: "Yes."
😆
Think the standard radio may have been a blaupunkt Toronto.
I think they would refer to the bhp as “adequate”
ah yeah ive heard that phrase too

Did you get it off my mate Vince
haha not mine
So yeah yeah yeah.x I'm thinking rattle can it
Looks like it was sold by Abbey Cars in Dunfermline. Sadly not in business anymore. Beautiful Rolls though. 😊
maybe lived in Fife all its life, only had 2 keepers this one.
@@RetroRatchet Maybe it was owned by the owner of Abbey Cars? They always had a high end car sitting outside the garage?
She is a beauty.....hides: 7 for swb and 11 for lwb ... i think
wow that many!
Stereo is correct
PD130 swap lifelong sunday cruiser

yeah id agree on the clock!
On the subject of the interior hide. It's not widely know but to save money RR started to use horse hide rather than cow hide
ah, that's interesting, was that on this model or alter ones?
Just remember, there is no such thing as a cheap Rolls_Royce. The most expensive car 🚙 you can ever buy is a so-called cheap Rolls_Royce !.....
haha exactly.
the tatts look very low rent
thanks
