Watching this back, I feel like I was a little Harsh on the Shadow and Spirit. They’re still lovely cars that I enjoy seeing out and about! Early Shadow’s certainly have something about them!
I agree with you. I'm normally more of a Bentley man. And I think the new Rolls' are, indeed, a bit new money. But there's something about the Seraph that's just...right. I think I actually prefer it over the Arnage, too.
Great video and a very comprehensive overview of the interesting history behind these two brands… I knew bits of the story but not all the detail that you’ve provided. Thank you for sharing! :))
😊 Although I myself are lucky enough to own this vehicle, a 1999 example. And a lovely car to drive. I still prefer the previous model, the Silver Spirit. Mine being a last of line mark IV example, with that old-school wonderful V.8 engine......
Thanks for the in depth review. Really interested me because 14 years ago I traded my ex Terry Wogan Turbo R for a Seraph. You’re right the Turbo R is a bit of a boy racer, a thug in a DJ. Great fun but verging on the crude, after all the basic V8 block has been around since 1948 if I remember. The Seraph engine is totally different, a smooth quiet sewing machine iron fist in a velvet glove. In D it wafts along. But it’s sport setting is “4” lock it in that and you leave any boy racer standing. Economy? Not as bad as you think. 18-27mpg, typically 21mpg. You can’t help but feel fabulous driving a fabulous car with the Silver Lady sitting in front of you at the end of the long bonnet. Sadly I’ve decided to let my Seraph go so I can concentrate on my Morris 1800S, 3500 P6 & Austin 7 box saloon. Currently on Barons Auction site with a very low reserve to get bidding going.
Excellent review and history summary. I can't agree on the looks though - I just think there is something so wrong about the front side lights and also the rear lights. I do completely agree the Turbo RT is the one to have though. I would be interested on your view of the ride quality of the Seraph compared to the Shadow and Spirit/Spur. Given a Royce is for wafting along, that matters more than road holding or handling. Especially given the quality of our British roads.
Thanks for the kind words! I’ll see if I can pull some strings and get a few more Crewe cars on soon. I think the seraph appeals to me as from a driving standpoint it somewhat bridges the Bentley/ Rolls Royce gap. I’d like to spend some time with a DHC of some description though, I think I’d be more partial to the Rolls Royce experience with the wind blowing through my hair!
@@carsandcustard I can understand that. More modern cars are going to be better driving cars than those from older generations (though not really modern cars, which I now think are going backwards in terms of driver enjoyment). Whether they can waft like a Royce or Bentley of old is another matter.
Very thorough review as usual 🙂 I always thought the Silver Spirit/Turbo R was a difficult act to follow and even though this has a more modern Rover P4-esque look with better ergonomics, it's still very Alan Sugar which puts me off a little 😅
well i have alwasy loved the rolls royce but could never afford one. till i was in my 60's i own a 1959 and a 1974 and my 1999, the 59 and the 74 are both running small block chevys. the 59 is at 450 hp the 74 has a 505 hp. the 99 is pure stock, i love that car. long road trips are nice i bought it 2 years ago with 30000 miles on her for30 grand u.s. i am afraid to look at the gas gauge lol mileage is non existent i think it might get10 on a good day, but it is a road car. not a go to the grocery store car, i have other cars as well modern fords , but for a great road car it can not be beat, i will not sell her. i spend a lot of time in my garage waxing her. it is the silver. for once i am not hopping it up or putting on custom wheels, looks fine the way it is, my german shepard always want grey pupon lolmy gf thinks im nuts. which maybe i am., i have not had any problems with it, oil changes are every 6 months no matter if i drive it or not.the v12 is really sluggish. but i am and have always been a hotrodder, that wont change.i take it to bmw for oil changes since the nearest rr dealer is over 6 hours away. i put on studded tires for winter driving. like i said i drive this car
Sorry, purist here…and as a custodian on my tenth Bentley Turbo R - nothing replaces the six and three quarter V8. BMW and Volkswagen intervention…no thank you…..
You lost me when you said this V12 is a better engine than the Rolls V8.....by no measure is this a better engine, the V8 was in production for over 40 years...for a reason!......

Great review - enjoyable history lesson too! Still a Bentley man though…
Thanks for an absolutely captivating review. You certainly have your own style. Great work. Cheers (from a Canadian).

Last of Line Silver Spirit/ Spur and Early Shadow’s escape my criticism! Thanks for watching 👍
Very interesting and thorough review. Keep up the good work 👌
Great review Mr Custard ! Spot on !
Last proper Rolls-Royce with a BMW engine? The last proper Rolls-Royce is the new Silver Spur of 1997
I’ve owned 15 Rolls-Royce’s including a Silver Seraph. These are great driving cars and they are seriously underrated by the pundits.
Here from Boaty's stream. A lot if classy high end cars. Nice!
@@thatguyfromcetialphaV pleasure to have you! I need to get back on that TH-cam hamster wheel again haha.
@@carsandcustard I'm a crummy Brit living in the States. A lot of luxury cars over here as well.

Yes it is a little bit Alan Sugar!
I disagree with the driver the shadow 2 is a far superior drive than what he is driving at the moment 😢
Last real Rolls Royce in my opinion
Still waiting for more W211 Brabus videos!
No mention of the Arnage/Seraph with the 6750 engine, for me, the last real Bentley/Rolls Royce

What’s happened to your instagram Harry?
Having some issues with the two step verification! Should be back on within 3-4 days.
No traditional chrome airvents.......Hmmm....RR?......not so

The least attractive real Rolls in my view. Still better than those gaudy BMW models we have now
@@oliverlondon5246 I wouldn’t disagree with that.
The history lesson is boring!
Yeah, no more history lessons going forward!
@@carsandcustard Some are easily "bored". I was aware of the history but still enjoyed your rendition.
