    I'm Italian, and I studied foreign languages (English, German and French) at the university. Also, I spent several years abroad.
    I can really tell that you have German roots (which I already assumed from your surname), your German in fact is just perfect. Also your French is quite accurate. Your Italian is not that bad, but still clearly spoken by a foreigner. The g in Ermenegildo was wrong. And Moschino was really totally mispronounced. 😋 Still, I think you are overall really skilled even in languages. Way above the average.

      In my opinion, so long as you say it close to the source language's pronunciation, you're doing better than most. Even though I likely still butcher the pronunciation of foreign words, at least attempting to say them properly is better than shoehorning them into an already messy language's rules.

      Alpha Fort I think it’s appropriate to say brand names in your accent when it makes sense. Some people in their naïveté pronoun American brands such as Ralph Lauren - Ralph Luh - Rahn as if it’s French. Granted his last name really was Lifshitz. Unless the pronunciation is so butchered it’s unrecognizable I’d stick with my Americanized regional way. If I’m corrected by someone who knows better I’ll accept. Or if I’m mispronouncing the name of someone personally. Of course out of respect I will try. Other than that I think there are other linguistic details in common everyday usage I’d rather focus on. Honestly, I watch the first two minutes out of curiosity and then I realize life is too short to focus on pronouncing name brands correctly. I’d rather expand my vocabulary by being well read. Learn better Spanish (I live in California) and relax… Rather than worry about whether people think I’m pronouncing brand names correctly. Signing off, still a peasant and proud!

    The T is pronounced in Moet as it is a Dutch last name rather than French, and I have personally received training from LVMH where they have explicitly stated they expect it to be pronounced with the T.

    • @TonyBuffone
      @TonyBuffone 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's pronounced because of the liaison on account of the "et." If, for example, the word following Moet was a word that started with a consonant, the the "T" would be silent. but because the word "et" starts with a vowel, then you need to "link or liaison" the two words by pronouncing the t in MOET

      @@TonyBuffone unfortunately wrong. The name "Moet" is Dutch and that's why the "t" is pronounced anyways

      Sir you are wrong ! It is not MOET but MOËT with the umlaut on the E like the French word NOËL !

      The founder was Claude MOËT in 1743 ! Nothing to do with the Dutch !

    Great video, I really liked it, but:
    12:52 Ermenegildo Zegna (Italian first name -gildo not sheeldo but hard -jildo: Ermenejildo Zegna)
    13:46 Moschino (Italian family name with ch pronounced in English as a k not Mos-cheeno but: Moskino)
    I'm surprised you did not explain Jaeger LeCoultre, which many connoisseurs actually mispronounce "yægerlecoultre" due to the German origin of the name however, the company explains that, given to its origin in the French-Swiss area, the name is to be pronounced "jejelecultre"

    • @noobfl
      @noobfl 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      but.. even inside jaeger le coultre, some people pronounce jaeger in a german way and som in the french way.. so probably both is correct (but jejerlecu(l)tre sounds much better

    A great book on the Volkswagen story is called Small Wonder. If you’re an enthusiast for VW and vintage automobiles it’s a great read. Ralph Lauren is also an avid car collector and has some of the most valuable cars in the world. I’ve visited the restoration shop that exclusively does his Ferrari’s

      Don't tell me... you landed in the UK? They Anglicize everything that can be Anglicized - and even that which cannot be Anglicized :P In the United States, a well-educated native speaker of English will always make a good-faith attempt at the original pronunciation.
