    I'm a WestJetter and I'm so happy to see this. It's not always about competing with each other - way to step up AC and create a little magic of your own. I love it!

    So Proud my Partner was part of the Team with Air Canada Crew that was able to fly over and do this for everyone in that Maple Leaf Pub. Was an Amazing experience for him and all the rest of them to participate.

    I believe AC was actually the first Canadian air carrier to do this "Christmas miracle" type thing a few years back when they gave everyone on a flight Apple electronics. Of course no one will remember that just because it wasn't WestJet's promotion. AC will most likely always be the superior of the two in my books - more destinations, more flight options, etc. I also believe that giving someone a chance to go home for the holidays to spend with family and friends is much more personal than giving people (who clearly have some disposable income, for they can afford to fly) materialistic items. Good job Air Canada!

      Signed: a loyal Air Canada employee...

    • @LostCannuckSailor

      Indeed signed a Loyal AC employee. Or someone who has never flown on AC. AC shits the bed on a astoundingly regular basis. Whether it is lost luggage, late flights, broken planes, and now lately crashing planes with propellers and just yesterday screw flying through the window. Customer Service motto is we are not happy until our unionized employees are certain you are unhappy. Favourite past time of AC flight attendant is ramming the cart into peoples legs and arms, yet this has never happened to me on West Jet, Luftansa, Alaska, or Delta where they take care not to injure their customers. I love reading AC magazine, where they vote themselves the best Airline in North America, not sure if that is worth bragging rights, nor do I believe it. In closing, West Jet did not give materialistic things to people with disposable income this year, they gave a town in the Dominican Republic gifts, including snow, and a playground for the children. West Jet 3 AC 0

      Laughing hysterically at your criticism of WestJet giving to people "who clearly have some disposable income, for they can afford to fly". Did you notice the folks in this AC video are all Canadians living abroad in London, England (not a cheap city). I would take people living abroad in London, England as more of an indication of wealth than people who can afford to fly. Also you should compare apples to apples. You're comparing WestJet's video from LAST year with AC's from THIS year. This year WestJet has a video where they gave to impoverished families in the Dominican Republic.

    • @missmegancarlene
      @missmegancarlene 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bri Hwood All of what you have just stated is essentially incorrect. Here's the absolute truth, based on North American aviation statistics: WestJet and its express carrier have approximately a 70% to 75% on time performance, and that's within a 15 minute buffer zone they give themselves after the estimated time of depature. Air Canada and its express carriers is at about 85% to 90%, without that cushy buffer zone. Approximately 2.3 for every 1000 AC passengers arrive at their destination without their luggage. They will usually expedite the luggage to you within a day or two. That's not such a bad statistic, hey? So, whoever is telling you "AC has lost my luggage 5 times" is either a) not telling the whole truth or b) one unlucky SOB. There have been no "crashes" in recent history on AC. Incidents, however, do happen, and they happen quite often. They even happen on WJ :O. Shocking, I know. These highly intricate machines are not perfect, and just like vehicles, they sometimes malfunction. It's not the airline's fault, it's just the nature of existence. AC is definitely not the best airline in the world, it just can't compete with the top Asian carriers. However, as stated previous, it has been named #1 in North America, which is pretty damn good. WJ is for sure not a bad airline, but if you're a business traveller who needs more flight options or a world traveller, I'd say AC is the better choice. For less experienced travellers who rarely use air travel, fill your boots with WJ. P.S. Maybe keep your legs out of the aisle next time. This also may help to avoid the tripping of other passengers.

    Awww.... how nice of Air Canada to do that for expats in London, England. Too bad they couldn't see it in their heart to treat Canadians in Northern Canada the same way.... it actually costs more for a flight from work in Northern BC to home in Toronto than it costs one of those Canadians in London to fly back to Toronto. But hey! Kudos to an awesome commercial for expats....

      @loosewheels1000 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jean Philippe, sure I got a warm welcome in Quebec, it was different, the buildings were different to anything I had seen in Canada, in the French style, narrow roads in Quebec town, it certainly was not meant to be a criticism of your province , I do go to France a lot, and had many happy times over there, from Nice in the south to Calais in the North, and it always exciting to drive on the 'other' side of the road.

    People like to talk trash about Air Canada, but my father worked there for nearly 30 years, he loved it. He was a unionized employee and he make a 6 figure income and provided for our family very well. He is now retired with a pension, and I am now 20 years old and work at Canadian National Railway, and the same thing, people love to talk trash about the company, but I make over 100K per year at the age of 20 with no education, so I really have nothing bad to say. Some people will complain about everything.

    • @mikesmith-ne4ip
      @mikesmith-ne4ip 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's why people talk trash - While I don't fault you for taking that opportunity and good on you for having it, the end result is the money comes from somewhere to pay those salaries and since it is unionized and hard to fire people, the service really sucks most times. I have flown 3 times with AC in the last 5 years, each experience was a never again. Now I purposely avoid them if i can when i book travel.

    • @justinborque9169
      @justinborque9169 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have flown AC and West Jet and many other international air lines whose names I cant recall, and I would choose Air Canada for service any day. Not that the service was horrible on any other air line, but I did prefer the service on Air Canada. Although I dont appreciate having to pay about 20 bucks for a sandwich and fruit. Gone are the days where they would serve a full meal, which was included in the price of the ticket.

Whats not to say that there are patrons in that bar that was worse off then the ones Westjet may have filmed but didn't want to share their story with the world... There is always someone less fortunate than the stories we hear. Either way, its all publicity, true acts of kindness do not seek rewards.

    • @Towndrunk26er

      Why Christmas? Christ was not born on the 25th. So why call it something it is not. Do your research. Take the Christians out of the Holidays and leave all the fun stuff for the rest of us.
      I am Canadian and I want nothing to do with Christ.

    • @raineparker7722
      @raineparker7722 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      And why call January 1st New Year when there's no reason to have a new year start in the dead of winter? Why count our years from 2,014 years ago? Because that's the way the western world does things. We call it Christmas because that's the name of the NATIONAL holiday we're celebrating.

      Raine Parker The Gregorian calendar started in 1582 because that is when the Church decided they would start it. There are many other calendars that are much older.
      We call it Christmas because the Church decided that. Canada was not a nation until 1867 and it took 3 years to make Christmas a national holiday.

    Although they are late to the party (Social Media and Viral Media) its nice to see stuffy Air Canada step up. WestJet has blown a lot of people away with their Christmas videos for two years now. One of the things that WestJet really captured with its 2013 Christmas Video was "Salt of the Earth" people ... Hamilton to Calgary is not the blue bloods of Canadian society ... hard working folks who like the CFL. Canadians in London are paid in Pounds which is about 2x the Canadian Dollar ... so I find it hard to have true sympathy for someone missing home that is making 2x what someone in Canada makes an hour. Fact is you cant be living in London and not be paid well for doing it. It's a nice video ... but you would get more impact if you actually went to a Fort Mac and gave tickets to kids working at the gas stations or the Timmies drive through round trip tickets ... rather some banker in London.

      AC has been doing things like this for 25 years. WJ just went the most viral with their very good Christmas vid last year. I was in the pub last week, and most of the people there were far from wealthy elite bankers. The Maple Leaf is a bit of a dive bar in that neighbourhood. Most people go there to see hockey and other NA sports and to drink some Moosehead. They aren't the rich

      Emily Ormerod Perception is reality though ... When you make 2X what someone makes back home an hour its hard to feel sympathy ... and to say Air Canada has been doing these things since before the Internet is a bit of a stretch. Yet it is a good ad and does present well ... though the impact to me is lost going to one of the most expensive cities in the World and giving people there free flights ... Moosehead ... who drinks Moosehead? :) Point taken though eh!

      Hugh Burnham Then you have no idea how expensive it is to live in London. It is a least 2-3x times the cost of living in Canada. So yeah it is pretty easy to feel sympathy for them if you're educated about foreign countries/cultures. Unfortunately most Canadian are not. That's why Canada is an incredibly racist, egotistical country.
      The only thing Canada has going for it is oil which they stupidly sold the rights for to American companies. Now that the price of oil is tanking Canada is headed BACK into a recession. At least every other country in the world has built their economy not to rely so heavily on a single commodity. Except for Saudi Arabia, who have openly stated they refuse to cut oil production because it will drive North America out of the market.
      And yet another ignorant statement made by what I assume to be a Canadian:
      " you would get more impact if you actually went to a Fort Mac and gave tickets to kids working at the gas stations or the Timmies drive through round trip tickets"
      I live in Alberta and it is a well know fact that even low end jobs like a gas station get paid a ridiculous amount more in Fort Mac than anywhere else in canada. Sometimes up to 2-3 times more than the national average depending on the company. That is why they choose to live there for the money! And you are going to criticize Canadians in London? They probably get paid less than the guy at Timmies at Fort Mac. Especially if you factor in the cost of living.
      And you're making generalizations about an advert as if you are an expert and don't even understand what is going on in your own country. Great job! You are a model Canadian!

      Sobhy Hajji Diatribe much Sobhy? what you need is decaf ... it is a good marketing ad - where it would have got more impact for me is if it looked at Canadians in Crap Holes like Fort Mac trying to get home (which costs as much or more than flying to and from London) You know so much about everything and everyone :) Truly you are an Albertan.
