Pipeline Moe & Sam Snead both had 240 yards to water 275 yard carry. Sammy hit it 230, Moe hit it 250 off the bridge, one bounce & came to rest total of 325 yards with a persimmon wood driver. Moe would play you for your house, cars, wife, bank account, 9 holes in the dark 1 ball. He'd be in your bed before the sun came up & you would still be looking for your first tee shot. He would hit a flagstick 150 yards away 20 to 30 times in a row & let you choose the club. Moe once hit 1,500+ balls in a 7 hour time span, all of them landing inside a 20 yard radius. Greatest ball striker of all time.
@@Blaze44_22 anyone in the game very long has heard of Moe...considering he never pissed a drop in the U.S. along with having watched him in '88 and '90 and seeing very questionable dynamics and distance control, yes, he was incredibly overrated by reputation
Pipeline Moe! 55 career wins on the Canadian tour including two Canadian PGA Championships, 25 cuts made out of 27 PGA starts, 1 top ten and 7 top 25 finishes, 17 holes in one and 33 course records. He had a habit of barely lining his putts up and played extremely fast, if he had took his time in the short game, there is no telling how good he could have been.
Not a good record if you are supposedly the greatest ball striker. Meanwhile Ben Hogan was winning a lot of tournaments and was known as a lousy putter. Something doesn't add up.
@davejohnstonpga the difference between Ben Hogan and the other great golfer's, was moe was dealt with a mental illness and was not accepted by fellow PGA players, fans and society, plus his parents. So what moe had accomplished in his career was truly amazing, living a life of being laughed at and ridiculed. I'm not hating on Ben Hogan or the other great golfer's who have played this beautiful game and helped get it into what we have today, but what if they were dealt the same hand as moe, would Jack Nicklaus have won 18 majors ?, would we have seen Arnie army ?, or would Ben Hogan be know as the man with the greatest swing but was an odd ball because he was different and not accepted?.
The Iconic 'Pipeline' Moe Norman. Feeling of Greatness. The Master Move. Vertical Drop, with the Horizontal Tug. Cinderella Story.... tears in his eyes. Love this Norman story... Pipeline Moe was known for his unconventional behavior on the course. It is said that on one hole his caddie told him he could get to the green with a driver and a 9-iron. Naturally, he hit a 9-iron off the tee, and then hit the green with his driver. RIP Legend.
Look at all the critics. I saw Moe on three occasions, and he is the only man I know that`ll tell you where the ball is going before he hits it, with the same club no less.
That's right brother Mike! I gotta get out and play more golf. Maybe I have too many hobbies. Pilot, wood carving, learning guitar, golf. I had to get into the wood carving and guitar. The others were getting too expensive.
Ever heard of Joe Korman? Iceland's greatest golfer. Won 55 "Icee" championships and made the cut 25 times on the PGA tour. He was considered one of Europe's best ball strikers by swinging the club between his legs to keep the ball low. He had to wear a cup to protect his own balls, but his big back swing and limited follow thru gave his worm burners a real punch. Reminds me a lot of Moe.
His swing is non-rotational. No turning of his forearms or concious rotation of his hands . It's like skipping a stone across a pond. His left hand and back of the forearm just go straight through .Again no rotation . It's his grip and set up that change everything. The future of golf ...or back to the future is right here . Thanks Mo your awesome .Todd Graves knows how it all works and is doing an amazing job of explaining how it works, why it works and how you can make it work. Much simpler method of hitting a spherical object on the ground with a stick. We have all been hoodwinked by traditional teaching methods .
Some top comments here are saying that Moe doesn't actually do what he's describing. He's not describing his movements watching them, he's describing how he feels them. Big difference. Many swing thoughts/routines are far more extreme than the actual outcome. Have you seen Justin Rose's pre-shot routine?
When it was his time in the hospital, the doctors asked Moe if he knew where he was. Moe said he was on the 8th hole. They found out later the hospital was built over a golf course and Moe was right.
I used exactly the same drill with placing tees in front and try to clip it off ground..i figured it out too and practices it..God knows it works and improves my Driver till now
The man was a flippin genius.....But, I personally wouldn't copy his Swing.... Yes Moe, your swing was a perfect work of art developed by you, for you...Bless.
arriving here to here explained, he is so right, a lot of teachers don't even mentioned that! it's so critical to do so...a lot of golfers swing at the ball instead of thru it. by the way his hips ARE moving.
Here , Moe Norman is on the range at Flagler Palms , in Flagler beach , just north of ormond bch , fl ,,,,i have been there several times,,,,it re-opened just last summer , a nice little 9 hole course.....Moe was a good friend of the owner of that course.
I think this sort of misses the point of what he's saying. You can drop your right elbow but get the club too vertical and lose all timing, lag and accuracy (of the ball on the right spot on the club face). I know it because i've lived it - shooting many, many, many soul destroying, club breaking rounds. The important thing for me is left forearm/wrist rotation. Keep them rotated clockwise during the drop - don't unwind them. This keeps the club behind you (as Moe mentions) and makes it very difficult to miss the ball with the middle of the club face. I have shot low rounds before but never really knew why. Then had terrible rounds shortly after. I shot 108 at a reasonably tough course 1 week. The following week I had worked out the above and shot 73. I was 1 under par with 1 to play but choked on the last (par 72) 😂 Hope this helps the dedicated golfers that have discovered Moe Norman.
You never pull the handle to the BALL. This is a death move that will make the club vertical. You throw the handle to your TARGET down the line. This will flatten your downswing club plane automatically and maintain the clubs position behind the hands. Throwing anything at the ball, even the clubhead, is a disaster.
Does anyone know about what year this was made? I watched one last night where he talked about Eddie Merrins and Ernest Jones. He said Eddie was the best coach ever. It made me think it was after this time period in this video. Anyone?
Saw Moe at an exhibition once. Someone from the crowd said, Moe hit a draw. Moe's response....why would I hit a draw when I can hit it straight every time. And he did.
Watching Moe has intrigued me. When watching the videos reminded me of a similarity with playing a straight ball in cricket. Most good cricket players are quite good golfers. A cricket bat has a 'square' face and for a player to hit a straight drive directly down the wicket is similar to golf. Part of the cricket players technique is to deliberately hook or slice balls and this requires controlled skilled wrist movement when needed.. Hockey players also tend to be good golfers. Again a square faced stick. Given a baseball bat is not 'square' do players take to golf as readily?
🤔 Ben Hogan suggests hip and say no to shoulder, but Moe says shoulder instead...as a beginner , Im so confused...I guess talented golfers have their own styles...
I agree his swing looks effortless and he is an awesome ball striker. Wish I had his shot. However, there is a disconnect between what he says is working and what I see. His demonstration of the vertical drop looks nothing like his actual swing. He says he no or very little hip movement, however I see a good bit of hip movement considering the smoothness of his swing.
maybe this is what he feels but thats not what his body does. his thoughts somehow lead him to swinging it decent, but his thoughts are something that most people would not be able to replicate by his explanation.
@@user-if1de8pt2j Both Moe and Mr Hogan said it was an economy of motion. They both understood bio mechanics. 4 million balls will do that to you. Where nothing is doing nothing with nothing left undone. Remember Moe had a little robot (Dao) that eventually took Over!

You would have to be blind not to see Moe's hips turning back and around in his swing, Moe saying NO HIP MOVEMENT, Moe had NO IDEA HOW HE DID WHAT HE DID....HE JUST DID IT>
Yes dead right - he clearly hit the ball beautifully consistently - though whether he hit it far enough even for high standard amateur golf is a whole other question. But what actually he said about the swing was nonsense.
@@ysgol3 I am sure with his "Actual Swing" Moe hit it far enough to play at the highest level in the 60" 70's early 80's But I am also sure when he started doing the "Natural Golf Company" Demo that swing was much shorter but Moe could hit it dead straight with that swing...
@Whammer79 I don't actually, any more than you do. I was just commenting on what Moe SAID. He was clearly a master player, but the facts, VISIBLE here, contradict his words that's all. PS When you've got an afternoon spare, pop into my house and I'll take you on a tour of my trophies. LOL.
@Whammer79 I originally made the point that Moe's description of his swing didn't describe what that marvellous swing actually did - with a relevant question about the length it generated. No more please, I find your tautologous efforts tedious. BTW to say his hips 'follow' his shoulders on the downswing is ridiculous - no good player can swing like that, let alone a great one. Watch the film again !
@Whammer79 Not a shelf a house......I wasn't attacking the great Moe at all, just trying respectfully to point out that what he said and actually did were different, and, as research would tell YOU,( like it did me), his 59s, brilliant of course, were not done on long courses.
Don't get me wrong I like and respect Moe a lot, but when he says he doesn't believe in hip turn, and there is no hip movement in his swing he's blowin more smoke than a diesel train......just watch his lower body.....just sayin.
The hip turn happens automatically because his hands are dropping in front of him in downswing. The mind will automatically clear hips to create space for the hands to come through.
Moe said many things that weren't necessarily physically accurate, but in his mind it was true. Instead of taking it literally try to understand what he means. In this case he is saying that he puts no concious effort into moving his hips, and that in order simplify the swing just focus on the shoulder turn.
He's TRYING not to move his hips. Of course they move, or he will break something. Where some amatures go wrong is they TRY to move their hips and thus making it impossible for the club to stay in plane without going over the top or extreme inside out.
Moe was 65 years old in this video so he lost a lot of flexibility and was overweight at this time. When he was younger and fitter he had also a much longer swing. He did hit it 300 yards at 70 years old though, but said he did not like trying to hit it far. He preferred accuracy. On to ur he was average length. Back then you had to hit the middle of the club face or it was an awful shot. Just a different game today. I think in todays game Moe would have been one of the longer hitters.
with ball striking and pure contact like that it doesn't matter how long he was. He was laser straight and again, with that kind of contact time after time his distance control was amazing. His statement at 1:55 says it all about how you should play golf... "the big thing, no effort.. no effort at all". If you can get to that point, you've arrived...
Tighter coil, and maximum lag through the hitting zone. He loaded up very efficiently. At the age of 65, Moe had a club speed with his driver of 107 mph.....estimated distance: 293 yards.
if he dont have hip turn, why does his right pocket disappear when he takes the club back, if he does in fact hit it straight every time, it cant go very far with a 3/4 back swing
off course they want commercial interest theres always a few that want to attach themselves ,,but palm grip hits it straight ,,and if a young person comes along adopts this and does well what can be more positive
Total madness , he says he doesn’t believe in hip turn and doesn’t move his hips , then sets up and turns his hips in his backswing !!!!!!!!!! Total eccentric moe is but let him believe ⛳️⛳️👍👍

@@tombystander ...so much of the game is in between our heads. The negativity, thinking about how that club went last time etc...Mo didnt have any of that and thats something we should really take away from him.
I rarely take a practice swing, like Mo,and sometimes i even talk to my buddies while im teeing off cause if i dont believe im gonna hit a good shot how the hell can i?
Practice and not over thinking
Pipeline Moe & Sam Snead both had 240 yards to water 275 yard carry. Sammy hit it
230, Moe hit it 250 off the bridge, one bounce & came to rest total of 325 yards with a persimmon wood driver. Greatest ball striker of all time.
the epitome of Canadian bullshit about the most overrated player ever
The man nearly out-pizza-ed the Hut.
@@Blaze44_22 anyone in the game very long has heard of Moe...considering he never pissed a drop in the U.S. along with having watched him in '88 and '90 and seeing very questionable dynamics and distance control, yes, he was incredibly overrated by reputation
Everybody has there own way to play golf. Great Swing!
But we can inspire by moe. #swinglikemoe
Greatest Canadian golfer of all time.
the sound of his impact is addicting
Pure and straight. Our dream. Moe's life.
I’ve literally had Moe say in my mind “the feeling of greatness” on my backswing.... many many times
9 Double Eagles.
@@davejohnsonpga4205Moe was autistic and did things differently, therefore never achieved his potential by most people's standards.
Canada was not very good competition. Mostly drunks and Mounties.
RIP Legend.
Made birdie too!
His Asperger’s contributed to his awkwardness but his skills rose above that.
Look at all the critics. I saw Moe on three occasions, and he is the only man I know that`ll tell you where the ball is going before he hits it, with the same club no less.
No matter what u think of his swing, one indisputable fact! He loved the game! That's all that matters, really.
That's right brother Mike! I gotta get out and play more golf. Maybe I have too many hobbies. Pilot, wood carving, learning guitar, golf. I had to get into the wood carving and guitar. The others were getting too expensive.
Prove that swing doesn’t determine ur handicap.
Errr…are you sure. I thought both feet have to be on one side of the ball.
You need to understand elbow plane and bio mechanics. He who talks does not know he who knows doesnt talk!
He may have no idea what he’s talking about, but ya’ gotta love Moe.
The way he centers his mass on his feet is so good. His footwork/foundation is great.
They found out later the hospital was built over a golf course and Moe was right.

where is the coin positioned in the takeaway/back swing?
I love the set up..Bless him..

arriving here to here explained, he is so right, a lot of teachers don't even mentioned that! it's so critical to do so...a lot of golfers swing at the ball instead of thru it. by the way his hips ARE moving.
What is your swing thought? #swinglikemoe
It's amazing how short and effortless Moe's swing is.
A Pendulum!
Here , Moe Norman is on the range at Flagler Palms , in Flagler beach , just north of ormond bch , fl ,,,,i have been there several times,,,,it re-opened just last summer , a nice little 9 hole course.....Moe was a good friend of the owner of that course.
Vertical drop = right elbow dropping down to the right hip
Horizontal tug = pulling the butt end of the club AT and THROUGH the ball to a high finish.
I was 1 under par with 1 to play but choked on the last (par 72) 😂
Hope this helps the dedicated golfers that have discovered Moe Norman.
Show us your swing video. #swinglikemoe
@@davidstevens3934 .
You never pull the handle to the BALL. This is a death move that will make the club vertical. You throw the handle to your TARGET down the line. This will flatten your downswing club plane automatically and maintain the clubs position behind the hands. Throwing anything at the ball, even the clubhead, is a disaster.
I’ve seen the videos where he groups all of his hits, but just how far is he hitting them?
Moe Norman must be Bubbles (from trailer park boys) grandfather!😂...joking aside, the guy was a natural! 😜👍🏽👍🏽

Interesting point about not moving the hips only the shoulders. I should try that. Thank you.

“ Feeling of greatness……”
Does anyone know about what year this was made? I watched one last night where he talked about Eddie Merrins and Ernest Jones. He said Eddie was the best coach ever. It made me think it was after this time period in this video. Anyone?

Moe had a head injury as a kid.
I've thought that too. Cricketer's instinctively know how to square the bat, and do it in golf without really even trying.
He had what all golfers chase after (sometimes in vain): a simple, repeatable swing that stood up under pressure.
or as Moe said, " The feeling of greatness" 💯🔥
anyone know what type of shaft he used? Stiff, Reg, Senior?
I think it was very stiff, and steel. Not sure when he was older though.
🤔 Ben Hogan suggests hip and say no to shoulder, but Moe says shoulder instead...as a beginner , Im so confused...I guess talented golfers have their own styles...
I just love the way that Moe talks. It cracks me up
Raise your hand if you stumbled here because of Curb Your Enthusiasm 🙋♂️
I agree his swing looks effortless and he is an awesome ball striker. Wish I had his shot. However, there is a disconnect between what he says is working and what I see. His demonstration of the vertical drop looks nothing like his actual swing. He says he no or very little hip movement, however I see a good bit of hip movement considering the smoothness of his swing.
maybe this is what he feels but thats not what his body does. his thoughts somehow lead him to swinging it decent, but his thoughts are something that most people would not be able to replicate by his explanation.
Could not agree more. #swinglikemoe

Even accounting for camera angle, it appears that Norman played the ball in the middle of his stance with a wood. Thoughts?
He did not. The ball was more forward as you can see in many videos with a good camera angle.

Moe is killing me…😂Best in history of golf….

+talltree601 so many great pros say one thing and do another... That's why there's a difference between playing great, and teaching great.
Where some amatures go wrong is they TRY to move their hips and thus making it impossible for the club to stay in plane without going over the top or extreme inside out.
exactlty right he is a crazy old coot

with a swing so short and lack of turn how far did mo hit the ball?
Moe was 65 years old in this video so he lost a lot of flexibility and was overweight at this time. When he was younger and fitter he had also a much longer swing. He did hit it 300 yards at 70 years old though, but said he did not like trying to hit it far. He preferred accuracy. On to
ur he was average length. Back then you had to hit the middle of the club face or it was an awful shot. Just a different game today. I think in todays game Moe would have been one of the longer hitters.
It's more how tight you wind the spring, not how far you wind it.
with ball striking and pure contact like that it doesn't matter how long he was. He was laser straight and again, with that kind of contact time after time his distance control was amazing. His statement at 1:55 says it all about how you should play golf... "the big thing, no effort.. no effort at all". If you can get to that point, you've arrived...
