Great lesson! I used to play exactly like this for years. 200 yards off the tee, in the short grass, make par or bogey at worse. Go home with a round in the 80s, usually beat everyone in the group.
Ive been practicing the single swing plane for a couple weeks. Finally took it to the course and shot a 39 for 9 holes with one birdie on a 315 yard par 4. I drove the ball pin high about 15 feet left of the cup on the green and 2 putted for a birdie. I've played that hole at least 10 times and never was within 50 yards of the green....I was shocked when I walked up to the green and saw the ball that close.....truly amazing.
I've been playing for 2 years now and have been stuck shooting scores 80-85 for the last 4 months. Started the single plane swing 3 weeks ago and have had new PRs week after week. Shot 78 2 weeks ago, then shot a 74 last week. This stuff works
❤❤❤Dear Todd , I am neurosurgeon who disheartened with the conventional golf swing for more than 15 years.Your Single plane swing blows up my head which make me fun with golf game again. I found your single plane swing is amazing easy, pure impact, reduce errors, less injuries golf technique than conventional. I should explain because this single plane swing is use "true part of dominant brain for right hand golfer" that is why work so well and very natural for human. It is the evolution of golf! Thank for yours sharing VDO!❤❤❤
I was blessed to learn from Jerry Foltz- Natural Golf spokesperson when I was 3 years old. 30 years later, I work with the person who had Moe's best intentions in mind. He has never tried to profit off of Moe. He was his friend. He is the number one scientific instructor. I sincerely hope i get to show that you can get plenty of distance with Moe's swing. I just got healthy from an injury not related to golf. I would love to catch lightning in a bottle and get through a Monday, so the best way to score can be shown to the people who don't know Moe's legacy.
Absolutely! Years before I even heard of Moe Norman I would go the range, grab my driver instead of a short iron, and choke down a lot on the driver, and swing the driver like I was chipping. My "chip shots" were going upwards to 180 yards. Amazing feedback...
Todd... I tried unsuccessfully the single plane swing last year (2022) and gave up because I seemed to top or skull my mid & long irons and I lost my driver completely... I was so frustrated because when I use this swing, I have no shoulder pains, but my inability to adapt forced me back to my normal "old" swing... this video has renewed my hope and I'm gonna try yet again this swing and hopefully be successful! Thanks sir!
@bigcountry4539 I had the same thing happen when I placed the club too far behind the ball when I first tried this. I went back to setting the club head an inch so behind the ball and the tops and skulls ended instantly.
Great stuff 🎉 It’s funny I can hit my driver pretty well now full speed but I don’t do well when I try to hit it easier. I’m excited to take this to the range. Thanks Todd and God bless you
Hi Todd: thanks for your teachings about Moe's swing. One thing I'm still missing is this: Moe was left-handed and played right-handed golf. Anyone analyzing Moe's swing has to keep that in mind! I'm right-handed, playing left-handed and I'm very right-sided dominant (I do everything right-handed that doesn't require 2 hands on a club or racket; also write right-handed). Leading with the dominant arm has never been an issue for me, but the power comes from the less dominant side. Since my dominant hand is leading I don't have any break-down of the lead wrist and my impact is very solid. However, all sorts of various issues can (and will) arise by that: like coming over the top, pulling so hard with the dominant side that the less dominant has no chance to catch up, etc ... Therefore when analyzing and teaching Moe's swing it is imho very important to understand and study the neurological part of ones swing like, which side is the dominant side, etc. Only then can you work on what the strength and weakness of one's swing is. Keep it in the fairway! Btw: Brian Harman, who just won The Open is a right-handed Leftie also ;-)
Greetings Todd, I have a question and you may have addressed it before but just a little clarity. The issue of loose arms and letting the momentum of the lower body carry you through the swing. I hear Moe always talk about swinging through the ball and not trying to hit it. Should there be any tension in the arms from the back swing forward. Is it just the weight of the club along with the lower shift to the lead knee and the upper body rotation be the force that is moving the arms and club? Should the Arms just be loose with no Tension? Thanks for giving a piece of valuable golf history with the footage on Moe. He is certainly a treasure of knowledge to the game!!!
I tend to somehow shorten my arms and shoulders, occasionally, during the down swing causing a slice. How can i stop shrinking that part of my body on the down swing. Thanks
Good question . Possibly to assist good footwork/weight shift Feel the subtlety. We know if we sway, wer’re dead. A real life example of the step into the shot drill.
Cool stuff, Todd. Quick question. There's a lot of controversy about pulling from the left vs pushing from the right and using the left hand and taking the thumb and forefinger of the right hand off the club to stop overuse of dominant side as a drill. There are also instructors (Marcus Edblad, for example) who believe in right hand pushing. Left side pulling example is Rotary Golf and Chuck Quinton. My understanding if I'm getting this correct is Moe was always pulling from the left and not using right hand as much. I know he made changes in his swing over the years but is this correct? He basically pulled from the lead side his entire career? I'm also confused because in one of his demos I believe he states he doesn't even use his hands?? Straighten me out here! Thanks.
Actually the push or pull question is a “where and when” question. In other words you pull in the initial downswing and then throw (push) about waist height in the downswing. This is easily seen in kinematic sequence graphs. The answer is that both occur it depends on where in the swing you are looking (measuring).
For some reason I try to swing slow driver I hit it all over the club face , full out goes around 270 slow doesn’t get off the ground, would love to learn this because my misses are two way and will be half my round, guess I'll try hitting 150 yard drives again ,
The challenge for me with your instruction is getting out of my conventional mindset. When I widen my stance and straighten my arms I hit it great with that alone. Yet, there's the thing in the back of my mind that says "wth are you doing?!" Same thing I thought when Shankland gave Moe's presentation at the summit. I couldn't believe what I was looking at. Now it's like "if I had started this 30 years ago .." 🙄
@@Dreweldeenknives Check your lead hand "position" because if it is slightly too weak, this will result in straight shots that leak off to the left for a lefty. Grip issues are usually associated with taking hand positions BEFORE your address stance is established. Set up at address (position 0) and then take your grip.
@latman1 What he means is he and Hogan never swayed the right hip or leg away from target. The hip turns and leg straightens (some more than others). Today most pros don’t. Bobby Jones explained this in a different way. Regardless if you looked at Moe face-on the angle of his trail leg didn’t become more vertical. Snead, Hogan, Jones were the same. Countless players on tour today as well.
Fly rod same same. People move the rod 10 to 2 and the line is going nowhere so they go faster and throw loops that go nowhere. Turn sideways and extend the rod full back and level and it puts an enormous bend in the rod and pulls the line forward. Short and cramped or long and flowing same same.
Todd, that’s a brilliant drill, though It’s a very simple. You can’t run until you first know how to walk. If you’re not walking properly, it’s going to be a mess when you speed up. 😂
I believe Norm knew the golf swing, he knew what he had to do to finally get the result he wanted so when he said he would practice the coin drill for hours and hours I believe him...One psychologist thought he was more of a savant than having autism. He was a golf genius.
During downswing, did u realise ur left knee still bending which mean u withhold the left knee bending position to create pressure n transfer the weight to the left knee at the point of impact...

This is exactly how I gradually worked up to hitting my driver consistently down the middle. Great video, Todd..and it works!
I’m hitting it straight flight but pushing it left 290-315 carry

Get the alignment trainer, it will probably fix everything for you. It helped me

Greatest swing in golf.
As “Kenny Bania” from Seinfeld might say “Gold Jerry! Gold!!” Seriously this is so personal to me since I struggle with over doing it. Thanks T!
Moe was amazing. Most all time wins. Most all time majors.
This has literally changed my golf game.
Great Drill, thanks. This . Moe Norman style works so well, it has changes my golf game. Still have to putt better but 1 step at a time.
Well done. Great video
That slight hip turn is the key to made him hit balls so straight 😊
Great stuff 🎉

Thanks Todd and God bless you
I managed to get the single plane swing right . The power at impact is so much cleaner or more pure .
Thanks for the great video.
Good point Todd! Can’t do it slow, then you can do it fast. Im Going to have to slow things down . I have to give this go.
ILL SECOND THAT COMMENT ABOUT TODD BEEN HITTING THE BALL FANTASTIC IRONS ETC GOD ITS GOOD TO BE A HAPPY GOLF BORE
It makes huge difference 😊
Love this!!!

Hi Todd, Is the iron set up the same as driver. Ball position etc
Thanks, Todd.
Very welcome
Awesome video!! Thank you
Glad you liked it!

Thanks Todd I believe moe and hogan was the best at ball striking single plane swing help me out

My natural shot is a draw is this going to make it into a hook ? I’ll try it out though
When is your New Facility in Oklahoma going to be open?
Hi Todd. What are your thoughts on the bent left elbow backswing technique of Jack Kuykendall who mentored Moe Norman and was his good friend?
I have incorporated this bent left elbow technique and it puts less strain on my back and body.
Moe did not have a bent left elbow like Jack. Copy Moe not Jack.
Looks and sounds great. My question is, why don't we see all the pro's , and indeed, everyone line up like this?
Thank you from down under 😊
Good question! Probably because it’s not taught.
will do it tomorrow! im playing in my 90s, in less than 1 year training
Been practicing my moe norman swing, not the longest but consistent and less side spin!
Is he using the ame tee untouched
Why did Moe address the ball with the clubhead at least a few inches behind the ball. Thanks Todd!
Good question . Possibly to assist good footwork/weight shift Feel the subtlety. We know if we sway, wer’re dead. A real life example of the step into the shot drill.
The easy smooth swing... The ball travel further and straighter and you stay in balance.

Thanks, Todd. I watch a lot of instruction and I've never heard it explained like that.
Just love it ❤😮🇩🇰🇩🇰

Can you cover the right palm up comment Moe made. He’s intending to drop his shoulder and right palm up drastically.
Shot 77,77 two days in a row . Still missing my target line left
I’m a lefty and specifically the driver

Nice
You have been talking about all other details, but forgot to talk about the most important thing in Moe's hip turn😅
I don't understand what he's saying about the hips never moving?🤔
His hips do move. Have another look. He also says that distance is controlled by turn and extension, not swinging slower.

During downswing, did u realise ur left knee still bending which mean u withhold the left knee bending position to create pressure n transfer the weight to the left knee at the point of impact...
I feel as though I am stepping in the downswing. Like I am stepping into a shoe.
All I see is always with the driver. I'm a great driver but struggle with iorns. No one ever talks about Moe and iorns.
Drills are for directive. Not feelings.
I ain't come into this world to hit the ball 200 yards
I hit the driver 275 FYI.
Pulling with his left hand , yet you explain skipping a stone with the trail hand. . At what point does the trail arm take over ?
At the point you would skip a rock.
Moe swing like a tennis player...look at his right arm....and compare to right handed tennis player....
Wow, how did he cope...he was clearly pretty far out on the autism scale.
Smooth, good contact swings are also very productive when hitting into a headwind.
