I still pop this in every few years. Then sit through the grind of 35-40 place finishes in career mode with your 60 overall equipment. Why I find that enjoyable is beyond me, but damn it I do.
This and NASCAR 07 on PSP, or as it was simply called, NASCAR, are the games that got me into the sport. I still play both to this day! To me, both are still easily Top 5 NASCAR games. I completely forgot that the game was 20 years old! As soon as I saw this video on my FYP, I immediately clicked and liked!
nascar for the psp is really easy tho, even on legend difficulty
I played the hell out of 07 on ps2, on controller first and then with a g27 when I got one in 2014 or so. I still play it on ps2, it's by far my favorite career. I just wish it went a little more in depth like 03 and 04, it would be perfect to me then

When the Goodyear commercial with the magic carpet ride song came out it reminded me of thunder 2003. It's sad tho because the career is only 20 years so technically the career ends in 2021 or 22

notes:
-it took me one try to complete the big one challenge as well.
-it only took me about 4-5 tries to complete the pay at the pump challenge.
-currently i’m trying to unlock all the paint schemes by winning on
veteran difficulty but it’s actually pretty difficult, mainly because of the “rubberbanding” effect (just like in mario kart 64). whenever you’re in first place, it’s hard to escape.

I started playing Nascar '98 on PS1 when I was like 5, but NT2003 was the one that got me good and hooked on Nascar games when I was little. My cousin had it on PS2 and every time I and my brothers would come over to visit, we'd end up playing it. My first win in any Nascar game was at Richmond as Mark Martin. I wall rode every corner (because this was before I learned how to actually drive lol) and caused a shit ton of wrecks using people to brake. My car was absolutely destroyed with the fuel cell exposed, but I managed to just barely catch Dale Jr coming out of 4 on the last lap and beat him to the line.
To this day, Richmond is my favorite Nascar track, especially in all the Nascar Thunder games. I couldnt even begin to guess how many hours I poured into NT2003, some into 04, a crazy amount into NT2005: Chase for the Cup and plenty more into '07 all on PS2.
I lost my mind at “I need to point out Richard Petty’s running behind Shane Hall. I probably should’ve shut off the Petty Thunder Plate - AND SOMEBODY ALMOST WRECKED UP IN FRONT OF US”. The commentary in this is gold, I just subbed.
Thunder 03 was one of my all time favorite racing game growing up behind midnight club. This is a blast from the past.
The Talladega road course is absolutely insane to play on
I just stumbled across this video, so much nostalgia. The hours I put into this game was unreal, my favorite of all time and had a place in my heart. I still have the original GameCube game case with the book in it
We couldn’t get Thunder 2003 in the UK, I ordered mine from Canada. Waited 3 weeks for it and then got my PS2 chipped to play it. Still to this day, my favourite NASCAR game
We grew up playing this on our PS1 !!! This NASCAR THUNDER 2003 holds far more respect than any other NASCAR GAME For us !
NASCAR Ignition never got in gear, NASCAR Thunder 2003 is already out of the parking lot and on the freeway.
I'm coming to this video late, but this is the first game I worked on professionally as a software engineer. I'm happy to see that people have good memories of it and are still playing it 20+ years later. Those of us on the dev team feel that 2005 is the best game in the series, but 2003 was pretty great. 2005 originally wasn't going to be on the Gamecube either; it was added to the slate very late in production and required a real scramble to get it done in time.
Fun fact: you can hire a crew member named "Mel" in career mode. I snuck that in because I was infatuated with a girl named Melissa. (Now my wife.)
@anthonymarinello6557 thank you for your contributions to the golden era of NASCAR console games...yes we race fans still love this game even if it's 22 years old, it just has a charm about it that still shines to this very day.
Frank Kimmel really does have 10 championships with 8 consecutive titles from 2000-2007 dude was a different breed
I had several NASCAR games going back to 96 on Windows. I never completed a full race. I maybe made it 10 laps in at Talladega before turning around and just causing mass chaos with huge head on collisions. That 96 game was pretty good. I even had a full wheel and pedal setup.
As a GameCube owning Nascar fan, thank you for acknowledging the struggle.

I loved 2003 Thunder so much. This brought back so much nostalgia, my Gamecube copy is cracked, I just need to source another one. I still have Dirt to Daytona. My fastest lap at the Talladega infield was 54 seconds, using all those infield cuts.

Great video, I love this game. It was the first game I bought for my PS2 back in 2003.
Its super late at night and watching this gave me a whole nostalgia trip. I loved this game and played the hell out of it as a kid on my uncles ps2 and would always cause mayhem on any track I could get my hands on. Tiburon or not, no one was safe. Plus my favorite part about the ea nascars I played was the fantasy tracks and the weird secondaries that make you wonder "what if". Like a real night-time talladega road course race would be insane.
I was over the moon when I originally figured out how to unlock Dale "The Intimidator" Earnhardt in this game, I absolutely loved this game, I actually currently have the ps2 version of this game
Yeah easiest unlock ever, just name a create-a-car driver Dale Earnhardt. That is even easier than unlocking Jigglypuff in Smash Bros.
My first system was my sisters old game cube and I got thunder 03 and 05 chase for the cup
My childhood
This game was pretty much one of the most played games of my childhood. I was so disappointed to find out a lot of the road courses were fictional lol. I'm surprised they didn't have New Hampshire or Texas World Speedway's glorious road courses. One time I managed to hit the height ceiling at Tiburon and my car started glitching in the air lol.

Something cool you can do with the emulator is add custom graphics.
So there are his res remaster graphics you can download and play with that include the actual alcohol sponsors for guys like dale Jr, Rusty Wallace, and Sterling Marlin. Honestly has become the only way I can enjoy this game now

That's like 98% of them for me...especially considering I didn't have a PlayStation 2 and literally drooled over Gran Turismo 4 when I was 11.
What sucked about this game is that they kept Joe Nemechek out of it. They could have at least put him in his 87 Busch Series Car
Technically he took over for Nadeau a couple of weeks or so after the game was finished because they do reference events that happened in early 2002 in the Lightning Challenges up to California where Jimmy Johnson won and Lowe's where Ryan Newman won the Winston.

The Nascar game I grew up with was Nascar 2006 Total Team Control. I had 2002 I think but it didn't play. 2006 is still the best Nascar game I've ever played
I am still curious why 2004 get more credit than Chase for the Cup. Chase for the Cup is essentially 2004 with a buildup career mode, team ownership and all of the normal cup series of the 2004 game. I still think Chase reigns supreme.
I think in 04 you have to really build your team rather than your driver career.
I sort of agree with you here. The team ownership aspects were really cool. It was awesome that you could do things as small as autograph sessions and merchandise prices. But you also couldn't upgrade your shop in 2005, and the car upgrades weren't nearly as in-depth.
@@FlakMonky20k that's another point for 2004. If I remember right you couldn't choose pit crew members and mechanics in 2005.

how did you get the pressure sensitivity to work? or are you that good with analog sticks? this is by far my favorite NASCAR game but it's unplayable for me without the pressure sensitivity working
I played this with a PS3 controller on the analog sticks and I didn't adjust anything on the Dolphin emulator, so I used just default settings everywhere. I use the PS3 controller mainly because I find it easier to be smooth with it, but you can be smooth with an actual GameCube controller with practice.

Just dug this gem out, my favourite over NT2004 because it has a far superior and much tougher AI and it looks amazing on my modded xbox, also the pre race presentation is better than 2004 with different angles shown, so yeah my favourite ever Nascar console game.
Car setups, gear ratios in particular, seem to actually work, and I prefer the pre common templates gen 4 over 2003 onwards cars.
Wanted to let u everybody know if u put Dale Earnhardt name in as your created driver u unlock him in thunder plates
Also DO NOT by this game for ps2 unless you have a wheel. It’s unplayable on the ps2 controller. With xbox version the controller makes it playable plus you can use your downloaded music in game.
I had NASCAR 2004 and put thousands of hours into that game. Which one do people like better? 2003 or 2004?
I didn't have 2004 growing up so I don't have the nostalgia for it, but I can appreciate it as a better game than 2003. The career mode is amazing, and it's just a lot more polished and full of features. But the aesthetics and gameplay of Thunder 2003 is something I still absolutely love.
How in the world are you getting those Playstation 2 graphics to look that amazing? If I didn't know any better I would think it was a PlayStation 3 game.
This is actually the GameCube version of the game being emulated on the Dolphin emulator, which can upscale the game massively and make it look this good.
Does anyone else think he sound like Seth MacFarlane? Or am I just weird?

This was played on the Dolphin Emulator, and that's so I could upscale it. It's also a lot easier to record off the PC than the actual console.

@@Nitro_Blitzen I believe that a wheel actually will work. I'm not exactly sure how, but it's something I've been wanting to test. If it does work, I'd almost certainly do videos with it.

"If yourw not PC gaming idk what you're doing" nice way to insult console gamers. Not everyone can afford a gaming PC or deal with constant crashing & storage problems with PCs.
I know I answered this comment on the newest video, but I might as well answer it here and add some more information.
Sure, not everyone can afford a gaming PC. However, you practically need a PC of some sort in the modern day just to do basic things. Add on the cost of buying a gaming console on top of that, and you've practically invested the same amount of money that just either buying a gaming PC on sale, or just building one yourself would cost. Also, it wasn't an insult, it was consumer advice.
consoles versions were so bad that i dont think review the game on the console version is very fair, i think anything console version is pure junk
